So, if Orpheus turns into an illithid and Gale explodes during the final battle... he made the sacrifice for nothing.

Having Gale turn is not a bad outcome if he can get the stones and be restored by Mystra.
Karlach’s going to die so she is next best choice.
Lae’zel would do it to save her prince and Wyll to save his city
I had the (almost) same exact outcome. I was playing as asterion main and thought I could get away with no one having to turn full illithid if Gale offered the bomb as an option. Same thing happened, he wanted someone to turn illithid regardless. Thought maybe lae’zel would offer instead of her prince, but the only options was either asterion (main) or prince. I was vampire lord asterion so I figured (in a role playing perspective) that asterion would NEVER do that to himself specially after cazador. So it fell on the prince to become illithid. Really wanted the no illithid/bomb version to be an option tho 😕☹️
i managed to get through this with no one transforming but when i got to the end either Gale sacrifices or i have to become Illithid. ofcourse by the time i realised that we were in battle so Gale couldn't teleport us away. so my entire party died. cause i'd rather die than be a squid
What if you offer to detonate a bomb for the Emperor? In this case, does he still absorb Orpheus?
