Not all spells need a verbal component. Wands, rings ets also will work unless they use words to activate. So, antimagic field is a much better spell against spellcasters.

Usually very old and advanced books are on parchement, which is some kind of leather, cause they were considered valuable and were thought to endure for some centuries.
"Do you really intend to leave me alone in a library full of dusty old books." At this point, Antreus should've known that this wasn't a complaint. This was a warning. Nixie just forgot to add "flammable".

My favourite part of this is that silence has a concentration requirement, so he can't go to sleep while he's maintaining the spell. Antrius just fucking with them at the end.

Intelligence and wisdom are different stats for a reason
And wisdom does more to temper ego than intelligence
Wizards have high intelligence, not high wisdom. Wizards maybe smart but they are not wise, which should be a given how they usually seek out powers and knowledge beyond their means, often irrelevant of any associated costs that may come with that.
A distinct lack of wisdom is in the air.
The tiefling is right, real world knowledge is better than gaining knowledge from old books

Nixie wants to burn books, and the mage flaunts spell book in front of her. We knew where this was going BUT plot twist Nixie OUTSMARTS the mage and he burns his own book. Bravo Deerstalker I can say none of us saw that coming.

Seriously? I would have guessed you have a different attitude regarding books! But nice to see that nixie is capable to make up new techniques despite her negative intelligence stats.
By the way parchment paper is heat-resistant. So do not worry. If the books were written on cheap new paper they were probably not worth anything anyways.

I love how Nixie pulled back the curtain for a second and schooled him on the nature of Tieflings and the irony of HER lecturing him on casting Fireball (an area effect spell) in an enclosed space... A focused Nixie is a very very dangerous Nixie!

Sorcerers do not acquire their spells through formal education, so lore-wise they use their own invented variants with similar mechanical effects.

Guess that shows the difference between Intelligence and Wisdom. Nixie has all the IQ of a cabbage but she has a lot of real life experience (mostly setting things on fire but still) plus of course sky high Charisma.
Intelligence is her dump stat, remember.
Intelligence may not mean wisdom, but it also sure as hell doesn’t mean stupid. Though suppose being hotheaded isn’t really tied to stats.

@@mikoajc.3247 the other half was absorbed by her fetish level love of fire and dedication to only casting fire spells. As a DM, I'd totally give her immunity to fire based magic as long as she stuck to the bit of only casting fire based magic.

Free public libraries are actually a pretty modern concept. Medieval libraries were very different. You basically either needed a letter of introduction or to pay a hefty fee to enter. While you were there, you were basically watched at all time. Often scholars would come in for the right to copy books since this was pre-printing-press.
