I am so very impressed with this system. My Magnets arrived Friday - I can't wait to start trying some pieces.
Thank you! Glad it's useful. Let me know how you get on :)
If Matt Mercer is the face of 5e DMing then you sir Matt are the face of modular terrain, buildings, and dungeonscapes thank you for the continued inspiration!
Liked the jazz, did not like the electro-swing, and then there was the smooth move into the epic stuff nearer the end. Where do you get your music from? It's better than the usual, and you edit it in well. Looks as though you are using the same foam as I am. I have NO luck with washes - the laws of physics do not seem to operate the same when I use them.
Thank you! I get it from epidemic sound, they have a pretty solid selection.
The grey foam is so useful, even if simply because damage is less obvious if it happens.
On the washes, are you using the mix I show in the painting stone video? I feel like the amount of flow improver you add makes a big difference to that effect, maybe experiment with small batches on a test piece?
I love how lindybeige always seems to comment on the roleplaying videos I watch. You rule man!
Here is a thought, the way you use details to determine the type of building is also a trick video games use to get more use from their buildings and save time designing each variant.
For example, in the Spyro 1 game, when the castle is taken over by the bad guys, instead of redesigning the castle each time it is claimed by a party, the banners around it gets swapped out.
For tabletop games, that is a very easy and great way for players and DM to run encounters efficiently and flexibly.
The buildings and terrain don't have to be custom made for each unique encounter. As you said, you can save storage space for the key pieces and save time in making terrain that is reusable and flexible.
Players should not have to wonder how multiple churches (good, bad or otherwise) are made with the same type of stone, or how the windows are all the same shape no matter where they are. The important thing is the building is there and the terrain is placed down for the players to use and add immersion to the game. It is not just a stone-built structure, it has windows, furniture, banners, and details that act as a frame for players to visualise around.
That's more or less where I got the inspiration :)
just rub a thin layer of cooking oil on it and it becomes translucent.
I love this build! I am thinking of creating stained glass windows with clues to a puzzle the players will have to solve in order to solve the mystery of the town. Fantastic video, thank you!
Awesome idea!
Great stuff, once again. The beauty of your modular builds is that with just a few new pieces you've created a whole new building. keep it up.
Thanks Echo. Always appreciate your comments :)
Monday mornings aren't so bad if there's a RP archive video ready.
That's incredibly nice to hear! You've pretty much made my Monday :)
So initially I was sceptical about this system and subbed anyway to see how it would go. As you’ve shown video after video, this is such a versatile and creative approach we can use for our terrain with even the basic building blocks. As space is at a premium, through your little showcase at the end converted me from a skeptic, to sub, to patreon. Keep up the creativity 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
That's awesome to hear :) and welcome to the little community!
That cloud affect holy shit!!
It is kinda awesome :) it was a good fallback until I can get the transparencies sorted!
I love these modular pieces. I want you to make modular cave walls...
Already got plans ;) just need to test things...
Great video! Can’t wait to start making these. Also nerded out a bit when tango tek’s intro music started playing at 7:20.
Electro-swing is a great choice of music.
Haha its great isn't it? There's some links in the equipment list in the description, if you haven't seen that yet :)
@@RPArchiveOfficial I will be utilizing those links for sure!
Would love an update on these with your other ideas and transparencies now that lockdown is easing.
Great vid!
It's on my ever increasing to-do list 😅
So dang creative. Even if you've just picked up ideas from other videos - the way you put them together is fabulous!
I'm 50 years old. Don't play any table top games - I just love miniatures especially dioramas from the middle ages. I usually get bored of a creaters builds after a while - yours just keep getting better and better!
Thank you!
I guess a labor intensive method to do stained windows that are transparent would be these window paints that come in tubes. They come in two variants. More solid ones more dark, non transparent to draw lines and ones that are transparent to fill in the spaces created by the lines. They are meant to create removable window stickers on something like overhead projector sheet or a transparent sleeve for files.
One can easily print out a desired motive, put it underneath a transparent foil and than trace the lines with said line making paint and than fill in the rest. The color ranges are somewhat limited but it creates a stained glass window look.
They are able to peel off and stick again as they are intended to make custom window decoration but I guess one can glue them to a piece of transparent film with glue that dries transparently to use them in the slot in system... Or one could have a transparent base to slot into place and interchange the motives by simply peeling them off. They can be stored in a plastic sleeve and take up no more space than a thick sheet of cardboard. Can be stored in a folder this way!
I guess the stuff can be found as window sticker paint or window cling paint. It's bottles/tubes with a nozzle.
Sorry if my explanation is a bit convoluted I'm from Germany and therefore not a native speaker. I've also just researched if this stuff is even a thing outside of Germany lol.
Sounds interesting :)
OMG man, impressive is not enough! Somaeday i'm gonna built all my stuff all over again to have your modular sistem!!!
Go for it :) you could even use it with your old stuff, just use modular pieces where they would be most useful until you've made enough!
You're amazing, I love how your brain works!
This cathedrale is a great surprise and improuve your modular system
Thanks Patrick :)
You are severely underrated, I only had to watch one of your videos and you’re already my favourite crafter. If I had the materials I would totally be using your system! But thank you for finding my inspiration :)
Thank you! Glad I could help!
Brilliant! Simply brilliant!
Thanks Jacob! Took a lot of work on photoshop but I got there in the end :)
Thanks. Love your work.
Alway appreciate the comments :)
For transparent windows with ease, use Sharpies on a laminate pouch, you can trace a picture and colour easily.
Oh I know, I just don't like the pen lines it tends to leave :) I wanted a smoother finish
Looks incredible
Thanks man :)
It would be interesting if we could do a one shot with the builds you done.
Yet another great video. Always looking forward to the next!
Thanks Fargrim! Next one releases in less than an hour ;)
The circular window would look fantastic with a water effect insert as a large portal, or you could create a fountain piece for the middle to make it an ornate courtyard or town square.
I was also just thinking that perhaps it could be made up of four quarters instead, making them easier to store and to double as intricate columns or roof supports. Your system truly has great potential.
Thank you :) those are solid ideas!
Very clever ideas. Lots to steal for my own builds! lol
Happy to help :)
Another excellent video, well done mate!
Thanks man :)
Awesome stuff! I love the circular floor pit - it all is brilliant and beautiful. Taking lots of notes so I can build myself a whole set!
Thanks! Let me know how it goes :)
I would've loved if you had included footage of you cutting out the printed windows and inserting them into the slot. As is we only see them from the one static angle.
Instead of using black for the font/pool, use Pokorny deep waters color. The black looks okay, but Pokorny paints have an amazing viscosity for terrain painting generally, and that color is amazing for deep water. Keep up the good work. That paint is available on the Dwarven Forge web site for eight dollars, for 2 oz., and is way better than craft paints at a comparable price.
Interesting! Honestly I went with black to get the job done quickly as I was running out of time, but I'll look into that colour :)
Great video! For the stained glass, you can try mixing kids markers with pva glue on clear plastic. Then you can draw on it with thin permanent marker
Oh I know there are other methods, I just originally planned them to be printed on transparencies :) and they will be, in the long run...
very cool!
Thanks Sean :)
Want to say hello as I stumbled across your channel and want to say this is epic for all tabletop gaming terrain.
Hey man, thanks!
Awesome
This can be used to make basically any holy building! It's amazing! I'd love to make a huge cathedral using these.
That's the idea :) one day I'll make more pieces for it so I can show a full cathedral, external and all...
Eventually 😅
@@RPArchiveOfficial I'm imagining a Temple of Time esq dungeon that they could find great high end magic items created by the gods themselves. Imagine a vorpal blade with +10 radiance damage!
That sounds awesome!
I'd like to see some gameplay! 🙌
The more I watch this, the more I think this looks like a good arch for a sewer… maybe as a bridge over an area where many sewer tunnels join together for a massive underground sewer ‘river’
Maybe for a bottomless pit, use a circle of cardboard painted with Musou black paint.
Honestly that's what I'd do now :)
11:38 my brain going infinity mirror.......
Wow. Nice work. How do you do your windows so nice?
Firstly, thank you :)
The windows are printed on photo paper (for now, once the print shop opens again they'll be on transparencies).
If you want to have those exact windows they're available for download on my patreon for anyone who supports the channel on there :)
This is an amazing system. Pity I'm after 1/6 scale stuff, not for table top gaming. However, I think it should be possible to scale it up. It sure would be far more useful as you just have to store pieces that go together rather than whole rooms.
Definitely. I was thinking it'd actual be pretty good for reworkable dioramas you can change up every so often...
👍👍
Would be cool if you 3d printed the stain glass then used transparent paint to colour it!
I actually have files on my patreon you can get printed on transparencies (clear plastic) at a print shop for the windows :)
Speaking of the "bottomless pit" - have you considered using a paint like Black 3.0 to capture a real "pitch black" darkness in a pit like that?
Definitely, it's on my list :)
bravo, another great video ... i can just see your collection in the future turning out similar to "Weta Workshop Sculptor's Tabletop Miniature World!" ... this system seems like the only sensible set of tiles to make ... is there anything it can't do xD
Haha wow thank you :) I really can't wait to show you guys the full plans, this stuff is just the basics!
@@RPArchiveOfficial O.O ... only the basics ... (HEAVY BREATHING INTENSIFIES)
Oh I have so much planned ;)
Why not texture both sides of the circle cut out wall pieces so you can use them as arches. You could use them to create a tavern like room or a cellar (and the aches help simulate a lower ceiling).
I have :) it's only the slot in wall piece that I've only textured on one side, though I can see how that might be unclear now...
Cool idea about the cellar though... That could be interesting.
This makes me wonder if there's any compact way to create a directional light-box that can be put behind the stained glass to project the colours into the chapel. Hmmm...
There absolutely is, it would just take up a lot of space 😁
Gigantic Hobbit hole.
Magnets… check chipboard … check waiting on my xps then I will get a craftin’!!!
Everything looks great. You should mass produce and sell. I'd buy it
Thanks Jon :)
@RP Archive what UK companies you using/ referring to, to print your transparent windows? been looking for places near me that would do them to make my own but had no luck so far. any advise would be really appreciated.
Honestly I didn't get round to experimenting between lockdowns, but ryman does transparency printing, that's where I was gonna use :)
@@RPArchiveOfficial thanks I appreciate it !
if the roof was a lil different not that it even matters tbh this could work in 40K as so many things lol
Am I the only to see the base for a bridge in those two half massive windows ? :D You even have magnets on the top already to put light pylons, etc. ;P
Regarding the floor usage: in addition to the idea of making it recessed to look like a pit/fighting arena... you could actually insert in it something thicker to look like a sealed entrance or something like that :)
Solid idea :) some kind of vault door would be cool...
@@RPArchiveOfficial I've recently discovered your channel, and getting through the content little by little. I'm unlikely to craft anything similar in the near future, but I admire the strong craftsmanship of your builds! :)
Gigantic vault door would indeed work too! :) Even on a wall orientation!
Thanks for the comments either way man, it all helps the channel :)
Hello sir let me just say that your videos are amazing and thank you for sharing your awesome experiences with us I live in Iran I can't become your petrion I would have in a heart beat if I had a way to transfer the money. You are doing amazing work thanks again 👍
Well that is amazing to hear Maziyar! I'm glad you like the content and it's awesome to hear from people around the world :)
Print or draw the stained glass window on paper. Add fixing spray if required or to feel like an art student. Apply some vegetable or mineral oil. You now have a translucent window.
Love all your videos, you come across as way too related it's a bit unsettling.
