Well, hell, I missed the party! Still a couple of suggestions to make the change you mentioned at the end; other than squashing it down to 1/32" which would leave you with edges that are too thin compared to the rest of the model.
1. Indent the top the same way you indent the sides. (This may have been what you were thinking,)
2. Indent the underside of the top. You'll get the thinness you're looking for while leaving the edges of the top looking like the rest. Then inlay the piece of metal.

These are the best terrain furniture I've ever seen Matt. Most Tavern bar sets can only be used as tavern bar sets. Love that these can be used as cupboards in other rooms too.

Awesome :) yeah it's weird, I grew up with both because I've been playing warhammer since I was a kid, but until I started crafting more precisely I never used the smaller than 1 inch measurements, so that particular bit is still relatively new to me!

10:58 alternatively you can use half beads for nail art, they come in different sizes and are very cheap (like $2 for 100pc).

Not having to cut such a small bit is definitely a plus. A lot of repurposing goes a long way. I have a paint rack that is sold as a nail polish rack.

Here is a shelf for the cupboards. You can take a piece of wood that would fit under the cupboard's footprint, add diagonal (triangular) supports underneath and then let this piece have a tab that could go into a wall. I am afraid it may destabilise a wall depending on the configuration, though a counterweight on the hidden side of the wall a limited amount of cupboard boxes would help sell the wall-mounted cupboard idea while not changing the existing assets and potentially adding a mini friendly shelf to either show them climbing a wall or sitting on a shelf.
I assume platforms to place minis can be colour coded or mentioned during gameplay would suffice.
Also, you can carve out a layer or squash down the top piece from the inside for the metal to be inlaid to the table for a stronger magnetic connection, if needed.
Squashing it down from the inside is a good idea actually :)
The wall mounted thing is totally feasible as an addon actually, might play with that in future!
@@RPArchiveOfficial IKEA is a good example of how to create highly customisable shelving. They have their boxes where you can add a variety of inserts for different shelf configurations. Plus you can add doors or not. On such a small scale it’s debatable how worth that level of customisation is but it’s an option
Wonder if you could do something with cylinder magnets as hinges to make the door pieces removable. 🤔Or use different length sections of balsa with metal beneath them as a modular top, so you could have a continuous surface that adheres to the top side magnets but still allows for accessories to stick anywhere on the surface.

I'm loving the awesome detail that all of your modular furniture pieces add to the atmosphere of a room, but how is the playability?
How would you run a encounter with all of the furniture in the rooms while being in the middle of a table, or are these meant for a scene/diorama play space either in front of or beside the DM instead?
Basically how I tend to run rooms now is as a partial cutaway, with walls on two sides closest to me as the dm so players can see everything. Tables and furniture I tend to put together beforehand where I can and the plop down, though with the magnets putting together furniture combos on the fly is pretty quick.
Playability is really much the same as it is with normal scatter terrain, make sure you don't over stuff a room, leave 1" gaps for mini bases where possible, remove chairs/benches when minis move into that space and so on :)

Instead of getting beads and cutting them in half, try the gemstones that come with one flat side. I found, with a very quick search, that Amazon sold over 500 of them for under $9.

I realize theres a equipment list up above but for each individual build a list would be much more convenient. Today id like to get started building these but now I have to stop and try to rewatch the video and figure out what i need. Just trying to give some constructive critisim. keep up the great work
Interesting point. I'll see what I can do about adding a quick 'this is the list of stuff I used' in the description... Problem is its easy to forget or overlook one or two things and the more time I spend writing that list is less time making more videos :)

These are some amazing videos, Matt. I do have a question though. Considering how heavily you use magnets, what is your source for them? Here in Canada they are not exactly cheap.

When you add the strips of time, how do the magnets work thru the balsa wood? Or am I missing something? You are soooooo my new best friend. 😊
They have a weaker connection but it still works. You can double layer the tin for a slightly stronger connection, or use thinner balsa wood for the top layer (1/32" thick instead of 1/16") :)

The tin goes on the bottom of the balsa square used for the top of the bar sections with superglue, there's no xps in the whole build :)

Currently no, but I want to develop one, because then I could make some standing mirrors too for creepy old houses and mirrors of life trapping...
Interesting idea... I'll look into it when I get a chance :) there are some cool paints that could work too.
If the magnets through the top aren't very strong, how is it that it holds well through double thickness wood on the sides when connecting two units together? I've been trying to make the foam walls from your other videos connect, but really struggle with getting the magnets to hold. And that's without balsa wood between them.
Basically the connection at the sides is stronger because its magnet to magnet, rather than the top which is magnet to tin, which is weaker at a distance :)
If you're having issues with walls it could be a few things. I aim to keep them almost flush with the wall edge (not putting them too deep) with about 1mm or so of hot glue over them. You don't even need to do that, it just makes it more secure.
Are you using 3mm wide, 2mm deep neomidium magnets? I can only really account for using that type/size because its what I've used/tested.

Ok. As someone who grew up on the Imperial system (you know, the one your country invented ages ago) to half any distance, like 1/2 or 1/16 all you do is double the bottom number. So 1/16 becomes 1/32. It's all about the fractional math. 1/2 = 2/4 =4/8 = 8/16 = 16/32 = 32/64. Easy. (Not like that Metric system. 😉 )
DID you happen to use 1/16 of an inch balsa wood?
I used that for most of it, but I'd use 1/32" thick for the top of the bar if you can get it, it allows the magnets to hold more strongly :)
If not, you can use the back end of a brush to flatten out some 1/16" thick balsa for a roughly similar effect. Not sure what that will do to the texture though!

I've been thinking about buying some magnets for my own crafts after seeing your videos, but haven't been able to spare any extra money on crafting, unfortunately. I've always thought there wasn't a need, because pegs and slots work okay for connecting tiles, but after seeing your table items and stackable cabinets, and stuff, I'm seeing the true power of magnets in terrain. I can't wait to dive into that when I can. Lol

That can isn't tin. It's steel. Tin isn't magnetic. Calling them tin cans is anachronistic. You also have to be careful you aren't using an aluminium can.
