    The cleat adapters I installed are not super robust. I didn't buy Shimano's adapter because some people complained that they were a great idea, but did not hold up very well. The adapters I bought are also hard plastic and it looks like they will not take a lot of abuse. I found one other brand, link below. They also appear to be hard plastic. There is a need for a higher quality adapter, I wish I could make one and sell it. For me the upgrade to the stiffer carbon fiber soles was worth every penny. There was an immediate noticeable difference during the first ride using them.

      Yep, I'm curious to see if stiffer shoes will make me a little faster. My bike club is pretty fast, so a little extra advantage as I get older doesn't hurt. lol.

      The shoes went for a test ride around 18 miles and about 1500 feet of climb. There was no doubt, the new shoes made those hills easier to climb than the old less stiff shoes.

      18 miles with 1500 ft of climbing, I’m guessing you don’t live in Florida 😂. Glad the shoes helped. My last ride with 1800 ft of climbing was 56 miles not 18. How steep was that climb?

      Eastern PA, it's considered a short but hilly ride for our club. I'll put a link below for the route. I thought the climb around 12 mile mark was harder than the first climb. I suppose my legs were a little tired, it also was not shady for that climb. ridewithgps.com/routes/7293606?privacy_code=viYd2Z6xsrO8CSsP

    What about converting a 2 bolt shoe to a 3 bolt shoe?

      I don't know of any way to do that other than buy different pedals and use SPD cleats.

    Is it okay if no adapter?

    • @Know-How-Now
      @Know-How-Now  Před 3 lety

      I've seen it done... just SPD cleats on the bottom of the shoe. Walking around it tougher.

    Will I wear down my shoes if I do it without the adapter?

    • @Know-How-Now
      @Know-How-Now  Před 3 lety

      It you walk around on hard smooth surfaces with only the SPD cleat on the bottom of your shoes it's going to be tricky. Also walking around on hard surfaces is going to cause the cleat to wear.

      Know How Now I’m subscribing! Thanks for the advice. I’m doing my DIY version of the cleat attachment shown in the video, it turned out to be great, but I wish it will las long enough. Can you tell me where to buy the rubber cover for spd cleat? I can only find the rubber cover for road cleat. Nice work on the channel👍🏻

      Hi Chai, when I made the video, I remember that I had trouble finding a cover for SPD cleats. I can't find them anymore. Most road bike riders don't use SPD cleats. I belong to and ride with a bicycle club for over 20 years. I am one of the few that uses SPD. It's not common to put them on road bike shoes, so finding the adapters and covers is a chore. Thanks for subscribing.

      Know How Now I know right! Wow 20 years of cycling, I was just started this year, I hope I would be on the bike as long as you do! I might try to use SPD SL cleat in the future, but now there are some mtb cleat shoes that are designed to be as stiff as roadbike shoes, probably good for us. Thanks👍🏻

      For me, riding with a club made the 20 years of cycling possible. If I was riding solo, I could easily find an excuse not to ride. Knowing I am going to be riding with friends is very motivating for me. Some club members were former racers, I've learned a lot from them. Happy riding!
