It's a fighting knife. Putting a choil at the blades ricasso will cause it to snag, even on skin. You can press this knife into utility work but, it's made as a martial blade. I haven't gotten mine yet cause they're all sold out. Back orders only! But once I have it, it will strictly be a "heaven forbid" blade... Period! Great review btw. A different perspective.
A pretty sweet knife. Love the blade shape and size would be a heck of a utility cutter. Great review 👍
And for such a beast its got decent blade geometry
Great thorough technical evaluation! Just ordered one from the mother ship ;)
Nice!!
Really like the different blade shape as ever great show 👌
Well done! You made some excellent points that no one else has made.
🙏
Next on my to get list!!!!
I’m in the middle of paying mine off. Another week or so and it’s all mine!🥳 This will be my second Spyderco.
The yojimbo or yojumbo?
The YoJumbo….I held off getting the YoJimbo all black. I prefer bigger handles/knives. It finally came back in stock, with no warning, so I had to get one.😊👍🏼 Apparently, the fella I get my knives from sold 8 (all he ordered) the morning they arrived! I think I was lucky to get one.
Love my Jumbo. it’s finally smoothing out a bit. mine was a little stiff compared to my Pm2 or Canis.
Im sure now that its smoothed out its only going to keep getting smoother
I really like the blade. It looks like it would be a lot of fun to use.
Haven't been a fan of warncliff blades in the past but this one looks sharp (sorry, couldn't help myself). The jimbo is the same profile so might try one of them.
They are solid knives and great work knives, built tough, originally a self defense knife but best for utility and hard work
Use your thumb on the hand holding it, to depress the compression lock, and let the spot you want a choil to fall onto your pointer finger, back lock style
Good review
It fits my hand as good as my favorite knife the military . I am still ADAPTING to the compression lock. Sure wish in the future they UPGRADE the blade SV90 ?
Yeah that would be awesome
Yesterday, mine arrived. The only concern forme is that fragile tip.
Definitely dont drop it on ceramic tile.
Definitely a cool blade. I dig it
I'm going to assume that Michael Janich bypassed incorporating a choil because of the objective of it being a tactical knife, or to be blunt a fighting folder and is meant for a single purpose and does not have utility or detailed cutting as an intention.
Therefore he probably wanted to maximize the length of the cutting edge as well as discourage anyone from choking up on the blade or extending the fingers past the tang on onto the heel of the blade since you would not hold a knife like that for tactical purposes.
Even though most knives not all but most can be used as self defense, they are 99% edc tool, so thats whats important to me, i do consider rhe other% though
Totally agree. It's often marketing driven. Some people consider an Endura tactical while to others it's just an EDC.
A steak knife can be a self defence implement if you're attacked by ninjas while eating a porterhouse!
I was speculating why Janich went with his decisions on the design and figure he was optimizing it for his intended purpose.
Kinda like a Ferrari is optimized for performance and would make for a lousy commuter and there's better choices but I'm sure some people commute to work in a Ferrari. Lucky them!
@@assoverteakettle absolutely
Choil’s can snag on fabric causing you to lose momentum in a slash
Oddly enough The lack of a choil is one of the things I like about Spyderco. They design knives to do certain things, in this case To 'slice up meat' and they designed it for that purpose. While it would have been easy to incorporate a choil, it would also have been compromising the design. I do not like it when a company 'half ass' does something, just to accommodate sales. It really is a double edge situation for a company, do they hold true to the design and intent? Or make compromises to accommodate sales? Kind of like the 'grippy' G10, by design it is intended to be used while saturated by a 'slippery liquid', put a smoother G10 on there and it becomes a design flaw. Yeah it is a great EDC, I use it for that purpose, but I also acknowledge that that is not it's intended purpose. It is a compromise on my part. The 'aggressive' aspect of the knife is important to me (thank god I have never had reason to use it in it's intended role) but 'I chose' to EDC it.
A knife is not a pry bar
A screwdriver is not a hammer
The right tool for it's intended purpose, but that could just be me.
WE REALLY WANT THIS BLACKED OUT IN 20 CV BLADE !
That would be 🔥
Designed to be a self defense blade. A choil would probably give risk to snagging while trying to make a deep slice.
My new hinderer no choil slicer came in and looks terrible as if it was sold before and returned by another customer and then resold to me. The stop pin is 1/32 away from touching the liner side, the blade is already off centered towards the lock bar side so it’s already over right and the pivot screw looks like a penny or something other than a hinderer tool was used on it
Damn bro return that sht tell them to hand pick one next time or send it back and see if you can trade for something else
Neeves Knives they are out of stock and was the last one. So I’m most likely correct in my assumption that it was returned. I am going to just send it to the ranch and have hinderer warranty fix it because it’s the knife I really want and they don’t have one to replace it with.
Yeah that probably the best thing why would they send it out like that though
@@NeevesKnives I have no doubt that I've received knives that were returns. Makes me think the retailer is thinking, "Maybe the next schmuck won't send it back." Pisses me off but I always send them back. Regarding the uneven grind, my native chief came uneven at the tip, very obvious. Still needle like though. Sooner or later I'll take it to the KME and even it out.
Neeves Knives idk maybe never checked the knife after returned
👍
Your welcome 😊
Well thank you
I need a yojumbo asap
I wonder why youtuber knife reviewers have such small hands.
This knife like others that i have seen reviews of are a good size, i have handled those same knives and some are actually small.
Serious question. Most knives I buy have a very functional factory edge, will cut paper. From watching these CZcams channels on knives, seems like a working edge last longer and cuts more than a fine edge. So, is keeping a factory edge really a bad thing?
No factory edges can be great some are horrible, ive seen some that would cut paper but not skin without putting a lot of force, and fine edges usually last longer than aggressive edges, aggressive edges usually cut better but it depends on what your cutting and the steel, some steels do great with fine edges some do better with a lower grt, most factory edges are fine for use, some just really are not that sharp compared to a hand sharpened
@@NeevesKnives Thanks for the reply. Still just trying to get a handle on this. learning.
Soon il be doing another live sharpening if your able to join i can explain a lot more, il make sure i say it in my videos or post on ig when im going to doit
@@NeevesKnives Thank You, I will be looking for it.
If Spyderco did away with the nub and put in a choil, chances are good that the rear corner of the blade could hit your finger. Same thing with the Shaman.
Oh bang! Some micarta on the yojumbo would be kill
Thats fo damn sho
Yes! Yes! Yes! The finger slap on all Yojimbos and Yojumbos blow my mind because if you don't pay attention it can also prevent proper closing!
Yoooooooooooojummmmbooooooooooooo!
Uhmm... I think you are RAW'ng!!!! I'm calling BS,,,, Only thing bad about that is; it's not mine.
😆
Send this out to Hilltop and BJ will sweeten this blade up! Check out his mods! 👍🔪👍
@bj.hill.7
