    I like the mods, I’m about to buy the same knife but uncoated and I think I’m at least gonna dye mine blue now, it looks awesome

    0:33 if you choke down the grip so that only one finger is in the first scallop, the grip makes sense in hand. The distance from guard to first finger hump is shorter on the Yojumbo than is it on a Yojimbo2...

    • @Gee_Dub
      @Gee_Dub Před 8 měsíci +1

      When I choke down on the grip it makes my pinky, ring, and middle fingers land perfectly on the pocket clip. If I put two fingers in first scallop it makes the webbing of my hand sit on top of the compression lock, and the hump of the backstrap awkwardly presses into meat. From chocked down grip, I securly have thumb in spydie hole through the entire arc of the blade opening.

      I don't really want to put that much thought or effort into how to place my hand on a knife. Thus the reason I modified the handle. Now it is comfortable in any grip position. But still, thanks for the tip. It should help those that don't want to go so far as to actually start grinding their $200 Spyderco, which I imagine is most people.

      The more I hold this knife I just don't think it's meant to be comfortable, it's just meant not to fly out of your hand in self defense. I have no doubt that your mod is more comfortable and I've also got no doubt that the mod would make it come out of the hand easier. I love that blue and have considered doing the same mods as you, thanks for the excellent video 👍

      @@DustinFlu no doubt. It still has plenty of grip thanks to the texture, but without those big peaks to lock on to, it could still be ripped out of your hand much easier than if you left them in.

    It looks good. You did a great job. Sadly, the jade g10 is translucent, so it's always going to be a bit see through. I'm not a fan in general, but yours came out good. I like the "skinny mod" you did by grinding it more smooth. Awesome job brother!

      @@BellowsBlades I was looking at the dyes you mentioned, and was considering doing an orange dye but they didn’t have the orange I like. So now I might do a graphite grey if I decide to dye my scales.

    That nub would drive me crazy. Where's my Dremel? 😈

    • @BellowsBlades
      @BellowsBlades  Před 5 měsíci +1

      It is a little annoying. Seems like an easily avoidable design flaw. If the steel wasn't M4, I might take the Dremel to it. As it is, I'll live with it.

    Actually really impressed with the color. I liked the original color, but this is far superior. I plan to do this myself, i would get the other dye that u recommended. Do you mind telling exact what part water/dove/dye etc u think is adequate to yield the sane results, and how long i should keep it dipped for? Thanks!

    • @BellowsBlades
      @BellowsBlades  Před 3 měsíci +2

      I can't tell you exact measurements. I used a drinking glass and put one squirt of Dawn and a quick splash of vinegar. I kept it in the dye for about an hour and a half to two hours, heating up the dye every 15 minutes or so and checking the color. If you want the exact same shade, you should follow the same process with the same dye. The synthetic dye is sapphire blue instead of royal blue, and will probably dye more deeply. I hope this helps.

    Good video... I just ordered one today from Blade HD. Its the Jumbo BHQ Exclusive with G10 Jade scales & CPM M4 Satin blade. Im not a fan of the natural jade g10 either but this is an ugly knife in my opinion. So, well hell, if its ugly go 100% ugly with the jade g10. Will probably do the same & sand that bump off the grip as well. Good video...

    If you leave the scales inside the Rit dye longer it would get darker. Unless you like the way it came out.

    • @BellowsBlades
      @BellowsBlades  Před 8 měsíci +1

      I left it in almost 2 hours. I was going to dye it darker, but my wife and kids liked this color and insisted I leave it. I liked it enough to go along with that, but may dye it darker at some point. Especially if it fades with wear.

    It's honestly such an ugly knife and it's sad spyderco doesn't give more flat blade profiles like it. You should round the entire top of the blade into a smooth shape, it'd look 10x better

    • @BellowsBlades
      @BellowsBlades  Před 7 měsíci

      I've seen it done, and it does look good. If this wasn't a DLC blade, I might have done that. I prefer my M4 blades to be coated, so I'm not willing to strip the DLC and reprofile the blade shape on this specific knife.
