Thank you SO SO much for your suppooort 🎉

@@barbs. as long as you keep it true to what you really eat! What whatever you’re doing, it’s working for you ❤ keeping it real ❤
Wow I jsut realized I need to eat more veggies. The cooking is very simple and healthy. No wonder she stays in shape. If only America ate like this
Thanks for your comment, I'm really happy you liked the recipes!! 🌸
As much as I love cooking, I don't like spending too much time meal prepping on a daily basis, so that's why I try to keep it very simple!
And about the veggies... my family is a little obsessed with always having veggies on the side hahah 😅🙈 But yes, it's actually good for you at the end of the day!
The problem in North America is the education around food in early childhood. There is a « so long my child eats mentality » which leads parents to feed too much sugar to their kids and make no effort for cooking. Children meals/menus have no colors. If you didn’t eat veggies at a young age, it will be hard to get the habit once you grow up.
@freddo_cappuccino So cool, they basically sound alike!!
So fun! And super inspirational for meal times!! I love getting a glimpse of what my life might have been like if my grandparents hadn't migrated to America :)

Lots of love from Italy!
Everything just looks so fresh and delicious ❤
wow, love to hear that!! Thanks a lot 😍🎈
I grew up in in New York but I am Italian American and this is very similar to how I grew up eating. People think Italians eat all these heavy unhealthy foods like Lasagna and Chicken Parm every night but the truth is most days we ate tons of vegetables, definitely not meat everyday, fish once a week, and of coarse we are not shy of carbs. Lots of pasta and yes, grated cheese went on almost everything. In my family it was always Locatelli Pecorino Romano but that grana padano looks bomb.
When something typical turns into a cliché, then it overshadows everything else! It's really nice to hear that our food habits are pretty much the same and that grated cheese is the undisputed king of every dish hahah 😄🍝🔝 Pecorino romano, grana padano and parmigiano reggiano just win it all!! 🎉
Thanks a lot for leaving your comment, un grande saluto dall'Italiaaa
I accidentally watched ur channel,loved it . Subscribed👍 will keep watching.great work. 👌
OMG thank you so much for all of your support!! 😍🙏🎈
Hello. So glad I just found your channel. The food you cook looks so amazing and simple to make. I think I will give the lentils and green beans a try first.
Hi there! I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed the video and found some inspo in those recipes 🍝🤩 Thanks for leaving a comment and thanks a lot for your support!
Being an Indian i mostly find myself in the kitchen preparing breakfast, lunch and dinner. We have tooons of flavour and spices in our food ( even the simplesssst meals) but this right here looked so tasty 😍 i can imagine myself eating this food almost everyday without feeling like the food is too bland(except the meat. I never tasted it in my entire life 😂 and probably won't). So realistic yet looks so apetizing.
Great video, I love seeing how other countries eat. I can't believe you have dinner so late, I'd have fainted with hunger! I'm in England and in our house we tend to have breakfast at 8am, lunch at 12pm or 1pm, and dinner anywhere from 5.30pm to 6.30pm. I'm liable to have small snacks in-between meals if I'm hungry, like fruit, a couple of crackers with cheese, or a biscuit (sweet, as in a cookie).
Thanks a lot for sharing!! 😃
5/5:30 is usually when we have our snack (actually, in Italian we call it "merenda"!) so that we manage to hang in there until dinner time 🙈 Everyone's different in terms of what they have during their afternoon break, but I personally like to have fruit, crackers or some biscuits too!
I just found your channel and love all the videos!! My family is in Abruzzo, and I love all the ideas you have for cooking Italian Style!
Thanks a lot for watching, I'm really happy you're enjoying!! 🥳
Oh wow, Abruzzo! Love a lot of typical recipes from there too 🎈
@@barbs. are u still in Roma
Thank you for the idea of zucchini with mushrooms and rice. Zucchini grows very prolifically in North Western Ohio, south of lake Erie, in the United States. We don't eat much fresh fish here, but a lot of pork, beef, and chicken.
I love this. I feel like what you guys do so well is you just take simple healthy ingredients, and you put them together into a human sized portion, in a simple way, and it's fantastic. It doesn't take that much to cook food during the week. How long did it take you to cook your soup and chicken? 20 minutes? It was like 4 ingredients. People in the US just seem to overthink cooking and eating. It's something that's just in the way of being productive rather than a part of every day that we should take time to enjoy. Most people I know just order take out most nights. I know some people who just eat fast food every day for lunch. It's kind of sad. :( I know it's just normal to you but I really wish that was the case here. People wouldn't be so obese.
I really appreciate your point of view and observation, I think it presents some interesting food for thought (apropos of food haha 😚).
Italian food habits and diets have a lot of cons as well, I have to say. But I believe that the good side of being exposed to influences - like it happens in platforms like this one - is that at the end of the day we have the chance to see different aspects of cultures from literally all over the world, so we can take the good and then make it become part of our own lifestyle.
Thank you again for your interesting comment! 🎈
Good job! We call the hand food processor an immersion blender 😉, and olive "bones" ,pits.
My family also used to make tilapia fillets (the recipe called for trout), with breadcrumb, lemon, butter "stuffed" between the two pieces, baked wrapped in foil, served with mashed potatoes - maybe artichoke side.
Thank you for sharing the recipe -it sounds delicious, to say the least 🤤
Next time I find trout at the grocery store, I'm definitely giving tilapia fillets a try 🙌🐟
Thanks for your tips too, loved reading your comment!! 🎉
Wow!! I'm from Argentina and I think we have a similar eating lifestyle! (we also eat fruits for dessert and crackers with the main dish). I loved the video! Now I have new recipes to try ;)
So cool to know there are similarities between our lifestyles and eating habits 😍
I'm happy you enjoyed the recipes! And thanks a lot for your comment 🎈
Should have gotten an Italian wife when I lived in Italy, now it's too late. That's life for you.
This is the first video of yours that I've come across and I already LOVE your channel! Your personality is so vibrant and interesting, I wish we were friends haha :) Excited to see more from you! Have a great week! xx p.s. Living in Spain, having dinner at 20h30 is still kind of early actually lol, but now I'm fasting so I only eat once a day... so I have "dinner" at 15h more or less.
OMG You're so kind, thank you very very much for this lovely comment of yours!! 😚
I'll try to post similar content a little more often and hopefully keep you company 🎉

This is incredible. I live in Italy and always wonder if the smells coming from my kitchen tell my neighbours I'm British 😂 😂 😂 😂. Now I can improve!!!! Haha
Hahahahah 😂😂
I'm happy this video gave you some inspos!! You'll become a British cook in disguise hahah 😁💯
First time watching a video from Barbs - Lovely Italian girl and English is so good I kept forgetting she's Italian. All the food looked very good, before she said it I was surprised was no bread or other type of similar accompaniment with the non-pasta dishes. All the dishes looked nice and simple and clean. I wonder if the eggplant/zucchini would have turned out better everythying was laying flat and layered - more like a lasagna or moussaka and make besciamella let it cool a little and add the egg slowly (temper a bit with a little sauce then add to the rest).
I LOVED reading your comment! Thank you so so much for your kindness and for watching the video with such care, that makes me incredibly happy!! 🌹🎈🙏
And thank you for your suggestion as well!! I've already envisioned your recipe, and I'm definitely going to keep it in mind next time I experiment with that eggplant/zucchini/egg combination 🎉
I really love italian food so much
This is my first time coming across your channel and I am SO GLAD that I did! First things first, you resemble Shirley Setia (just goggle her up hehe) A LOT and are really pretty. The whole food just looked so delicious and honestly very realistic. Its very true when they say that Italians never disappoint with their food :P Loved your sense of humor and editing, made a vegetarian drool that non veg ;)
Just googled her name: oh wow! Thank you very much for your kindness, that's such a huge complimeeent 🙉🌸

Does she remind anyone else SO MUCH of a brunette Devin (formerly) from Buzzfeed?? Adorable! Also when she said the olives have their "bone" in them I nearly died from cuteness!!
This is a really nice video. My family came over to America 100 years ago from Italy/Sicily. Certain food traditions stick and others don’t. I usually eat whenever I’m hungry, earliest is 4 no later than 9.
Love to hear about your "Italian heritage" 😊
Yeah, at the end of the day that should be the way to do it -eating when we're hungry and not when the clock tells us to! Thanks for sharing!!

Wassa crackers are best slathered with butter and served with sliced good deli meats and/or cheese. I guess they’re all texture really.

Hello, Barbs, all! From SC, USA.
I eat lunch about 1:30, dinner around 8/ 8:30.
The soup ingredients look delicious. I like to leave vegetables whole/ chopped instead of blending, for texture. 🙂
I am loving your content!
Uh nice choice!! When soup looks like that (with whole/chopped veggies) we call it "minestrone" 😊🍵
Nice to hear we have pretty much the same food routine, in terms of when we eat lunch and dinner!

New subscriber here!!! Love your style, excited to see more content. We have lunch around 11-12am and dinner at 6pm. I find eating later makes it difficult for me to find the energy to cook. ☺️ I would eat dinner at 4pm if it were up to me. 🤣
Hahahah you have a point 😂
We usually have a snack in the afternoon (we call it "merenda", like "faccio merenda"=i'm having a snack) so that we can recharge a little bit and hang in there until dinner.. but again, you're right -wouldn't it be easier if we just had dinner sooner??! 🤣
Thanks for the laugh and for your lovely comment 🌸

First, I'm happy to have stumbled upon your video. I'm a curious cat when it comes to Italian cuisine. Have learned many Italian foods on my own and also wish to learn more about the foods, culture and people of Italy. Second, Barbs your enthusiasm and joy of showing us the household Italian food is incredible. I personally loved your simple yet delicious recipes and also your cute way of presenting it. Great work ✌️. I don't know if you're on Instagram. If yes then we can connect and have great food conversations. Btw, I'm a self taught chef based out of India and 2 of my favorite foods are Indian and Italian 😊. Tutto il meglio e felice mangiare👍

@@barbs. Ehi, grazie, caro. Ti auguro più felicità e successo. Saluti😁
this looks so wholesome and healthy! but the south asian in me was dying for you to try some seasonings on the meat and veggies, it’s crazy how different everyone’s palate is. have you ever tried indian food?
italian here :) indian food is delicious!!! my ex is indian so i learnt tons of different recipes, so yum! it's just different approaches to food, it's nice sometimes to let natural ingredients 'shine' with just oil salt and pepper - if they are quality ingredients they will taste great on their own. Other times it's fun to - literally - spice things up and approach it the indian way. For example, i love eggplants and if they are in season just grilling them and letting them rest with olive oil garlic basil salt and pepper they are so tasty, a little bitter, a little meaty... delish! Baingan bharta is an explosion of flavors, just completely different as i will taste many different flavors at once instead of 'single out' the main ingredient itself. I dont know if that made sense ahah Just my two cents :)
Thanks a lot for your comment! 🎈
Lol you're right -I have to admit my knowledge around spices is just ZERO out of 100! 😂🙈 I've been to an Indian restaurant only once, and unfortunately it wasn't even real Indian food, most of it was very "Italianized" if that makes sense! I'm definitely going to try again and maybe I'll bring some of those influences to my home cooking as well 😋

You might find some authentic Bangladeshi restaurants in your part of Italy (northern or north east Italy), I recommend you try their food!
Bangladesh is south-Asian, just like india is, and along with Pakistan all three were once a country for thousand of years, and so they share similar cuisines, food, spices !
There's no way an Italian family eats pasta only once a week, at least not in Southern Italy. We also eat more in each meal than you actually show. But I must say, I wish my weekly routine was more like yours, it looks so healthy.
Yes, my family is southern Italian and I ate pasta probably 3-4 times a week growing up.
Completely agree
In America our eating times have a huge widespread, breakfast can be anytime from 7am-10:30am, lunch between 11:00am-1:30pm and dinner between 5pm-6:30pm. In high school my lunch was at 10:45am 🤯
Wow, at 10:45!! We had "intervallo" more or less at 10:45, which was like a 15 minute break in which we were also allowed to have a quick snack 🍫
That's so cool and interesting to know, thanks for sharing a leaving a comment!!

Both grana padano and parmigiano reggiano are used pretty much all the time over here, it would be cool if they were sold in America as well -you could give them a try!

Hello Barb,
Prego! My wife is Italian (3rd generation) I am Scot (4th generation). Needless to say, we cook entirely different, yet have lots of fun when we cook together!
Your site and "What's for Tea" are the only cooking/family links that we have favored!
A funny story:
When we were engaged, I challenged her to a Spaghetti Sauce cook-off with a blind study with two married couples of our friends.
Her father, 2nd generation Italian of course, called me "a foolish man" :-)) because I challenged an Italian, cooking her Grandmother's Sicilian family recipe...she won hands down!
With a family name, Antonucci, who could blame my friends lol
Grazie mille!
H. Guess, III
Hahahahah!! I loved reading your comment and thanks a lot for sharing that story.. I'm pretty sure no other Spaghetti cook-offs have been done between the two of you ever since 😂
Grazie a te for your support! A huge hug to all of you from Italy 🎈🎉
Monk fish with peas and sauce is good!
I dont know what it is about ur eyes but they just SCREAM emotion🤯
I love the vibe in the video
btw I was wondering if you from the US until you said "zmart" :D of course you said later you belong to a "typical italian family"
keep doing the great job
Hahahaha I'm always struggling with that "S/Z" sound 😂🙈
Thanks for watching and thanks a lot for your support 🎉
great video and i loved it! its so wild how different i grew up and what my cuban family eats in miami. I love that its mostly lighter meals and sometimes no meat at all. (btw, im very sure the cutting board was cleaned before the cooked steak went on it? lol) one questions, was the rolled eggplant had baked eggs right?
It's super interesting to get to know more about other food habits and family traditions around the world, right?? 🤗🪂 I'm very happy you enjoyed watching the video, and thanks a lot for sharing your comment! And to answer your questions: yes, for both of them! The cutting board was cleaned (😅) and I put eggs in that rolled eggplant recipe 💯
I especially enjoy Barbs Censored and Unflattering pomodoro presentations where I quickly find the likeness very flattering ☝️😄
Hahahaha well I'm happy to hear that then!! 😄🎈
Brava
Yes, definitely have to have lots of vegetables!
Here it is lunch at 12 and dinner at 18:00. Lunch is typically bread with cheese, ham or any other topping, usually 2 or 3 slices, occasionally we make a salad. Dinner is the only warm meal of the day (usually so in the Netherlands) and its not unlike what you cook, always with plenty veggies ;)
I do like to cook Italian, but also Mexican and my favourite, Asian (Chinese, Japanese, Thai :))
it was so cool to read about your "food routine" and I love the idea that dinner's typically associated with warm meals, so the day can always end on a more cozy and peaceful note 🐣

Cheers from Italy!
How lovely! So, for a lunch is it mainly just one thing like "rice with zuchinni and mushrooms" and nothing else? Or is there like a salad too? Bread? New here. 😅
A typical lunch in the midwest of america is something like "sandwich with chips and apple". In our house its typically "sandwich, fruit, crackers, maybe a cookie." Dinner tends to be just one big thing like a hot dish. Trying to diversify our eating habits to something healthier. :)
Keep up the good work!
Loved your comment, it's so nice to hear about other eating habits around the world! Thanks a lot for sharing 😍
Yeah, I'd say we tend to have mainly one big thing and typically it's a PRIMO PIATTO for lunch, while it's a SECONDO PIATTO with a salad or some sides (we call them CONTORNO) for dinner.. but it's obviously not always the case. Bread/some crackers are almost mandatory at all times though 😂
My family and I also like to satisfy our sweet tooth at the end of our meals with some fruit and either a piece of chocolate or a small treat.. but I didn't put that on camera -promise I will next time 💃
Thank you again for your comment and support, I really appreciate!

@@barbs. What do you eat for breakfast?
@Claudia Elias On a day to day basis I have a cappuccino (I'm OBSESSED with cappuccino 😍) with some cookies, a handful of almonds and a sliced apple with a sprinkle of cinnamon on top 🍎
However, when I have some free time on Sundays I like to prep some special "sweet treats", that I then froze and save for the rest of the week -so I can swap the cookies+apple for something different! In my Typical *ITALIAN BREAKFAST* video I share 3 fun recipes, in case you're interested 😚
@@barbs. I don’t each lunch until 2 pm which is when I finish work. I’d say most people each lunch here between 12 and 1 pm.
Vellutata we just say soup. We are not so specific! I mean, most of our soups are blended so it's already implied. If it's not a blended soup we either say broth, particularly if it's Asian, or minestrone, if it has pasta in it. Hope this helps!
Thank you so much for your comment, that's super helpful!! 😲 🔝
Soup-broth-minestrone : I'll keep it in mind so that I won't get confused again 🎉
@@barbs. Ma figurati! Your English is GREAT! :) Keep up the good work!

I realllllly enjoyed watching as you are so fun to watch! Just a comment, I felt a little bit dizzy because the camera is too shaky. 😅
Thanks a lot for your nice words, I'm happy you enjoyed the video!! 🎉🌸
You're 100% right, I'm actually thinking of upgrading to something a little bit better than just my phone hahah 😅 We'll see how that goes!!
@@barbs. omgomgggg you replied!! 😍 Thanks for this realistic "what I eat in a week" instead of what the usual CZcamsr uploads. Even when we are not Italians, we can relate to this! 💓
I just eat primo piatto every day at lunch 😂 I don’t enjoy having just a secondo at lunch ahah or if I’m having a secondo at lunch for dinner I NEED pasta😂
Pronuncia stupenda comunque! Bravissima 🥰
Hahahah😂
Grazie milleeee e grazie per il tuo commento!! 🌸
Your humor is cracking me up, you the same kind of jokes as me 😅
