    Finally picked up the carb adjusting toll kit I've been needing. The chain needs adjusted its way to tight on the bar. You don't want to do that it's hard on the chain the bar and the clutch. I'm sure it was part of the problem when we was trying to get the saw started. It creates drag. Think I'm going to spend the money and get it a new bar and toss one of the chains on that came with the saw when I purchased it and do some more adjusting on the carb. One thing I forgot to mention in the video was that I do like the throttle on the saw its nice and smooth. This Poulan Pro seems to be a nicer saw compared to the Wood Shark and the Wild Thing. This model is still available at lowes for $179.00 on their web site. Would be a nice chainsaw to have around the house for the basic use of trimming and cutting up random branches that fall from a storm. Thanks for watching our 200th video on CZcams.

    Had a question regarding Chain and bar Lube. you ran it pretty good, did you notice the chain or bar with excessive lubrication? I just changed the oil pump and it does not spit out as much oil.

      @GenerationX1971  Před rokem +1

      It was slinging oil pretty decent off the tip. I believe the oil in this one was straight 30 weight engine oil. All I had at the time.

    Yep, I appreciate the trial and error...that's real world. Most of channels I follow don't show that part...just one pull and it magically starts up.
    Don't forget, a tune at 20°F has to be tweaked in hot weather 🪛

    I've just picked one up and the fuel lines are rotted off, could you tell me where they go? Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks again for the real world video!!!

    • @GenerationX1971

      The side of the carb with the linkage should be for the main fuel line. The other side will run to the primer and then go from the primer back to the tank. I hope that helps some.

    The chain keeps spinning after I got it, running. Should it set an idle before before you pull the throttle.

    • @GenerationX1971
      @GenerationX1971  Před 2 měsíci +2

      I’m not a pro by any means but on mine I just slowly idle them down until the chain stops moving. Hit the throttle and let it idle back down and see what you got.

    • @GenerationX1971
      @GenerationX1971  Před rokem +1

      In most cases for me they work better. If it’s a really tight fit I do have better luck with the needle nose pliers. The pliers I use have a slight curve in them.

      3/32 inner by 3/16 outer diameter. Hope that helps. If you have a Lowe’s or Home Depot close by they might have the kit that comes with a couple different sizes of line and a new primer.

      I thought the same thing at first. If you watch just before it starts running I checked the it to make sure it’s off unless malfunctioning. Runs good with the new bar and chain on it now.

  • @CuriousKL
    @CuriousKL Před 8 měsíci +2

    If you notice that the idle does not seem to be consistent or it starts hard or just stops running, it's NOT the carb. It's the two bearing seals on either end of the crank.

      @GenerationX1971 how many turns to start with what way to go to achieve low-end power or high-end power? How to get it to idle? I'm so lost.

    • @GenerationX1971
      @GenerationX1971  Před 11 měsíci +1

      @@Toby.puppyboi this saw ended up needing a new carb. If it’s a new one it’s not as bad. I start with the low setting and turn it slowly until the saw starts to stumble and then back it off until it clears up and gets a smoother idle. The high side is basically the same way. Once you get a good idle hit the throttle and see how well it revs up. The high side might need the same adjustment. Rev it up turn the adjustment screw until it starts clearing up. If it’s the factory carb and it’s bogging it’s possible the fuel filter needs changed or the small screen in the top of the carb is plugging up. It’s truly not as bad as it sounds. I’ll remember to go over it in more detail when I manage to pick up another saw. Poulan is a decent home saw as long as it’s taken care of. Most of the ones I pick up are just neglected.

    • @Toby.puppyboi
      @Toby.puppyboi Před 11 měsíci +1

      @GenerationX1971 I have had many chainsaws and picked this up for 80 out of peer desperation, and it's been the best dependable little saw I have ever run, so I completely agree with you. Unfortunately, I broke the throttle off the carb, so I had to get a new one. I did get it running now. Thank you a lot!

    • @GenerationX1971
      @GenerationX1971  Před rokem +2

      I agree It should have been more detailed. All the old used saws and blowers that I pick up we try to start them to see what issues they might have. Most of them have just been sitting for a long period of time and just need a little tweaking on the settings. Some of them are simple just turn the adjustment screws to reduce the amount of fuel or turn to add fuel. Some of them I close the adjustment screws and slowly turn them open as I go. As far as the idle just set it to the hat your happy with. If it’s a chainsaw I keep the idle down just low enough to keep the chain from turning. Trimmers just low enough to keep the spool from spinning. Next one I come across I’ll go into more detail.
