    Ammo:
    -12.7mm: Universal
    -20mm: Air Targets
    Convergence: 500m
    Manual Engine Control settings:
    -100% prop pitch
    -30% radiators
Rare Adam514 heavy fighter footage, with a carry no less, enjoy!
Very effective flaps, but takeoff and landing settings rip at a too low speed to earn the "+Great flaps" pro. Thicc wings give this plane a low Mach rip number and poor control at high speed, as you may learn one day.
I don't really like heavy fighters, and the P38L is no exception. Too big, with the armament similar to a single-engined fighter. It is more useful than most heavy fighters though.

Yeah. The first p 38 I fell in love with. I could bnz in it, pilot snipe in it, dive at speeds many heavy fighters can't dive at. And most of all. Laugh at all the fighters that could have killed me. The 110 I really really fell in love with was the g 2. I would use the 37mm for bomber hunting, and turn fighting with some other stoopid ppl without gun pods. (Bf 110 is not known for speed, it climbs well and turns well. Idk if I should call it a big energy fighter XD) I could go on and on bc I like heavy fighters, and get huge amounts of sl while using them.

irl the p38 could hold 70 mph (112 km/h) without flipping over to the other side like most planes would at that speed! it could stick with the Germans. And with the later model dive flaps, the germans even had a hard time out diving it! the fork-tailed devil sure is a fascinating bird

Yesterday I played a Spitfire as you said, in a support role, managed to bring low 3 Bf 109s and had them burn their energy on me for quite the time, managed to dodge every attack, but sadly no teammate really came to my aid, as I was spamming for cover and eventually one of the bf 109s got on my 6 and shot me down. -Type localhost:8111/ in the address bar and press enter and voila.
Option 2 (which also works on the computer that runs WT):
-Type Your_IP_Address:8111/ where you replace "Your_IP_Address" by your IP Address (192.168.X.XXX) in the address bar and press enter and voila, you can look at the characteristics on another device while flying.

They should have their Air Spawns but it'll just catapult these things upto 10kms lol.

  • @THECobrabitch
    @THECobrabitch Před 5 lety +1

This plane alone could handle multiple enemies and even just two decent pilots could take on a whole team on their own if they fought where this plane is built to fight.
At around 5.5k m, both P38s in the last P38 tree ( the L and J which I'm gonna just call "Late models" ) begin to very rapidly close the climbing rate gap between even the best 109s at their tier, and maybe even a Japanese plane ( not sure though ).
At 6.0K, they begin to pass even the G14s, and G10s climbing rate, even matching the K4, Ta152, and best British plane equivalents climbing rate, and its around 6.8-7.0K where it becomes, the single, best, climbing prop in the game, as far as I'm concerned. Mayyybbeee to be rivaled by the Pshitty1-H and Bearcats or even tigercats, but by the time they reach about I'd say 9K, those planes would be out of WEP, overheating, well beyond their supercharging gearing, and their wing span and lift from their wings would make them irrelevant to the Late P38s. Just the P38S ability to boom climb passed 6.5K meters would make it an extremely competitive fighter against even the best 109s, the Ta-H model, and the best Japanese planes, this thing is an absolute BEHEMOTH in the skies, and even a mediocre pilot such as myself can do very well in the late 38s, however all of that is comePLETELY irrelevant because most Allied teams in the skies are just FFIILLLLED with kids, and moronic adults that "just wanna have fun" and "don't care that I can't turn with anyone" "I'm going to turn with Japanese planes" and "I'm just gonna climb a little because I don't even know why I'm just not gonna climb much" lookin asses.
If the P38 fought on the terms it would in real life ( at 35 thousand + feet, above all of the bombers ) even IF Germans started out at the same altitude, all pilots being equal , the Axis team's chances of winning would be painfully thin.
Edit:But ya know, "AlliEd tEAms" so nothing I said matters.
Plus at below 5K meters its a little bit of a joke, and only gets worse little by little so that's a downside.

Hmm I don't think it's climb as well as you say. I think it loses power at 7km, so P47s and Ta152s will have the climb advantage at 8km.

Btw, I still think that P-38J and L are best US 4.3 and 4.7 fighters, respectively. You can easily outmaneuver any FW and sometimes late 109-s (esp with gunpods aka 50-60% planes) IF YOU NEED. : So, the P-38s are actually really good when used right (the key is those combat flaps. Really strong lift boost, and don't rip till well past 500kph), but they're way harder to fly than they should be. Especially when it comes to low-speed maneuvers. At least the 38K behaves fairly well close to and/or within a stall, but all of them should, and they're fat cows. The 38K should be amazing there.
Alright, now for the NOVEL. This thing is a twin engine heavy fighter that *almost* flies like a single-engine fighter. Almost. You wouldn’t expect it, but these things are almost pure energy fighters, with a BnZ focus. They practically require an energy advantage, but when you have it they’re nothing short of deadly. You absolutely must sideclimb in them, I’d say at least 5km from a ground spawn. The E and G get an airspawn, so at tier and in a downtier, you can climb straight at the enemy spawn at a 10-15 degree climb. MEC is your friend here. Full rads to WEP climb. As you end the sideclimb portion, at about 5km, and turn in, drop throttle to 100%, (optionally drop turn off auto prop pitch and set to 90% while cooling), and adjust the rads as follows: ~33% water ~36% oil (w/ prop pitch set to max on the E model for the extra power instructor holds back on auto). As the engines cool back down, you can drop to ~30% water ~34% oil and go back on the WEP. This will give a fair amount of fight time at WEP, but may need some adjusting, especially on hot or cold maps.
At very high alts (7km+), the temps cool nicely and you can get away with ~25% rads or even less. MEC also allows you to turn off and feather a dead or damaged engine to reduce drag/save the engine for if you need it/reduce fuel consumption, but that’s pretty advanced stuff.
The P-38s are unique, tricky birds to fly and get the hang of, but once you do, they can dominate. They have two powerful engines and really impressive flaps, as well as very good ER for a bird of their size. However, the control surfaces are somewhat slow to respond. It can pull well, and has a good top roll rate (excellent on the L model with boosters), but it takes a little time to get it pulling/rolling as hard as it can. (The L remedies this a fair amount with the aileron boosters.) Sometimes, it's even better to hold a fast roll in the "wrong direction", as you'll get the nose/lift vector where you want it faster that way. I've gotten a few kills this way, where an enemy played into the “wrong” roll. The sluggishness/control “floatiness” does make getting guns on difficult, especially in deflection shots if your opponent introduces any roll. It demands thinking ahead a split-second to aim, which can be difficult. However, if the guns connect, they're doing damage. Especially the cannon. The *key* to flying it is managing your speed/energy. Between 300 and ~500kph, with combat flaps you will outturn any 109 or 190 you face, though the gap is *really* narrow with the 109F-4 (though the P-38E and G open this gap back up with their lower weight). However, you kinda bleed speed in verticals or upward maneuvers, which is massive pain. Don't engage opponents in verticals without an energy advantage.
The K model, this doesn’t matter so much because you just have **all** the horsepower, but in all the others, you need to keep the fight moving at least slightly downwards to keep your speed in that 300-500 band. If you do that, you’re golden. However, also be aware that you lock up hard when you get going too fast, and feel free to break off and reclimb if an enemy is breaking away and down.
This plane seems to really like 15 degree climbs for whatever reason, getting what feels like a very favorable speed:altitude exchange rate.
Another weakness of this plane is the compression model. It compresses the ailerons and elevator **hard** above 600 or so kph (again, better in the L model) to the point where 109s and their current fantasy FMs will outpull you. 38s did have problems with compression, but the 109s should have it just as bad, if not worse. However, as soon as you drop to ~500kph, you can pop flaps, and those flaps mean you'll outturn 109s and 190s quite handily, so long as you keep it above 300ish kph. Below that, the 38 becomes sluggish, and is an absolute brick under 200kph without flaps (the K model being a *notable* exception with very nice stall characteristics and control, which is actually in line with how all 38s should be). Even with flaps, it gets very sluggish at low speeds.
The lacking modelling on the P-38s is practically painful. They're actually really good BnZ/energy fighters, which is just kinda mind boggling, that a twin-engine fighter could be an energy fighter. But the 38 has huge amounts of power, a lifty yet low-drag wing, and IRL had great stall and near-stall characteristics. In-game, it's just a sluggish cow at low speeds, which is incredibly disappointing, and handicaps it in vertical/oblique maneuvers. I've beaten K-4s in energy/BnZ hybrid fights (the fight was at high alt and I did start with the advantage), but it completely fails when it comes to getting guns on or pulling up into vertical maneuvers, as the WT model just bricks under ~300kph. This thing should be able to practically *dance* in the vertical and at the edge of the stall envelope. It was renowned for stalling incredibly gently, maintaining control very well up to and through a stall, and being very easy to recover from a stall. None of this seems to be present in game, simply modeled as having a lowish stall speed and being good at prop hanging. All the other characteristics are absent. This thing is a floaty brick and stalls **hard** once it does stall. The characteristic that would redeem it as a dogfighter in light of its mediocre-poor overall maneuverability and high weight, the excellent stall-fighting capabilities, just aren't there. Part of that low-speed control would also be utilizing multi-engine controls (While in a steep climb, and approaching a stall, pilots would chop one throttle to ~50%, flick the other to maximum, and it would practically 180/hammerhead around the chopped engine. Or pilots would cut the inside engine in a banked turn, greatly decreasing turn time). However, this is incredibly clunky in game. I also suspect the instructor would fight such engine shenanigans all the way through, making it harder to pull off. Additionally, the stall recovery from stalling one side to hammerhead would be nightmarish with the current FM.

There are 3 values that determine how much your aircraft can turn: wing area (obvious), weight (obvious), and the maximum lift coefficient (CLmax). CLmax is essentially a factor for how much lift your wing can produce. The higher the CLmax, the tighter your turn will be. If you double CLmax (for example by using flaps), your turn radius will be divided by 2.

What are the differences b/w the P38J and P38L? I love flying the P38J at 4.3, 3.3 matches are straight club fests. Best plane for looping when you combine w/ landing flaps IMO

L has the booster ailerons so it rolls much better, and 38J has more power I think.
