I’m happy to see Lego bring back more medieval sets, I missed out on them as a kid but now as an adult I can truly enjoy them
Same here. I could only ever get the smaller sets, never got a castle until adulthood. Still, I had friends who had bigger sets, so surely I played with them back in the day. Now at 50yo, I just build them and never ever play with them at all... Nope. No playing here. 😁
it's crazy to be happy about that, I know it's better than nothing yeah but come on lego could simply do a lego castle line and it would be perfect, kids like medieval and adults too but no unstead they just do one medieval set per year in UCS scale that only some adults can afford and now it's even worse the only medieval set they make is an exclusive non mass produced set that you have to preorder and if you're lucky enough to be choosen by the randomness of spamming lego's website at 3AM on pre order day you would have to wait 6 months just to get the set
as I said it's better than nothing so I understand your point but come on it's just lame
There will be already like 8 new castle builds. All over 200$
Imma miss them again cause I'm broke 😂😂
@@svenoualpha9673 I totally understand your point, and for those same reasons you pointed out I most like won’t be getting this set, but hopefully they also come out with smaller more available and affordable sets
Glad I got my preorder, sold out in only 3 hours. I hope Lego sees the popularity in castles and make more, it sucks that a lot of fans will miss out on this one.
lego do not design details like this very rarely they do and its mostly star wars
I think they are slowly getting the picture. Castle 3-1, Blacksmith, Lion’s Castle, village, and now this dramatic sale. Wouldn’t be surprised if we see another big castle-themed set in 2025.
Yeah sadly I didn't get it. But in a few weeks at least there will be the Medieval Town Square, that should be good.
Just found about this today rip
It is a very weird world, where instead of making products to demand, things are going to get sold out in about 3 hours and leaving the vast BULK of customers without a chance to buy something. Meanwhile there are tons of people that just buy it to leave it on the shelf to gain value.
Even though it is very overpriced and you could probably build something of similar or larger size for far less, the quality of the build and the amount of detail still makes it a worthwhile set to spend some money on.
I think the reason that it doesn't have that good of an interior is because the fan designers have a limit of 4000 pieces to be used on such a set, amazing review loving the content you are putting out and amazing meeting you at skaerbaek last year
I was about to make this same comment. I agree. Just make your own inner details 🦩
Hot take: if you're on the fence about it, don't buy it. Let someone else who is really excited and won't get one otherwise. I am on the fence, therefore, I won't be buying.
I like how the mountain fortress is a bit more gothic and pointy in design, while the lion knights its a bit more boxy and crenalated. like you said, you can tell they are both part of the same world, but they also have different design flavors.
Two solid brix studios videos in a week?!???!! We’re living the dream!!!!
14:39 The phrase in the sneakerhead community would be "rock one and stock one," but in a LEGO sense it very well could be "block one and stock one."
Limited Run is the opposite of a justification for a high price tag.
It's predatory marketing, riding on FOMO to wring extra money from the audience. Combine that with the fact that fan-made builds use an excessive number of bricks, and this is a set that puts profit over design.
Also buying sealed sets with the sole purpose of reselling them at inflated prices (as opposed to holding on to them as a collector) is a scumbag move
That's how I feel too. I really like this set but hate how it's a limited time set. I'm just going to stick with my lion knights castle
100% agree. Plus, I hate the fact that "investing" is damn near being promoted now. I really preferred when these Bricklink sets weren't so promoted as they are now.
Get over yourself. These are fan designed sets. Not official LEGO sets. There is a limited appeal for these.
FOMO is a thing of your own making. If you don't succumb to it, you're fine. If you do, that's totally on you.
Buying limited editions with the purpose of making a profit happens in every product line. LEGO counteracts this by allowing a maximum of 2 sets instead of 5. They also do this on their high interest regular releases.
And the price to piece ratio is better than Lion Knight's Castle, and the fan designer gets 5% of the sales price. You are supporting the community by buying these sets.
But I guess some people just need to complain about everything.
@@bloodymarvelous4790 what are you talking about? FOMO is a very real thing and well known marketing tactic. I'm complaining because it's cool set but only available for literally a couple hours. That's ridiculous. A set should be available for 1-4 years not 1-4 HOURS!
I will be buying 2 of these bad boys :3
the balcony right above the poop is actually a legit medieval castle toilet, thats why that poop was there, thats actually pretty cool that the designer actually did a bit of research designing this set, maybe theres more realistic details in the set i havent noticed
Unlike the certain tworeviewers who didn’t.
I was like.. what balcony? its privy 😀
And the same feature was in the Lions Knights castle
@@nebnoswal thats cool
By "a bit of research" you mean that he looked at the Lion Knights Castle and copied it?
6:51 That's where the Lion Knights king is. The Lion Knights Queen will save him from the clutches of the Black Falcon Queen.
I think we are in another golden era of Lego castle since around 2022/23, a renaissance even, considering Pick a Brick: The Lion's Castle, the Blacksmith, the Viking Village, the Medieval Town Square, the Black Falcons Castle on Bricklink (and soon to come the Black Falcon’s Siege Battle Pack) are all absolutely amazing and perfect Lego Sets. The downers being their size related prizeing, their at times limited availablity and the lack of smaller and more affordable regular sets and lines.
Yet still THE greatest addition, is the selection of available theme related parts and minifigures on Pick a Brick: plenty of beautiful shields (mostly descending from the Lions Kights Castle) and torsos/legs, both in perfectly updated and beautiful new designs, weapons, armor, many other great small parts and items, and a never seen before abundance of animals, of which many are closely related to the middle-age time periode like the horses (at times a variety of 3!), sheep, cows, pigs, goats, chicken, etc.
Pick a Brick alone allows to create and customize a plentyfull world, even massive armies, for relatively cheap, which I did.
I'm not even much of a castle/medieval theme kind of a guy but WOW this set is a literal work of art. Could be one of the best Lego sets ever
I'm super glad and not jealous at all :P that you got this set early to review and be able to help us make an informed purchase. I have been collecting some Black Falcons and really love how it looks next to the Lion Knights Castle so for that reason I will probably pick one up. I hope they keep sending these to you and other creators. Thanks for the honest review
Considering that there are not many "special parts" in this thing, the price tag for it is just insane!!
Not to mention that it is a simple moc. Looks great but easy techniques.
It’s a limited edition build. I’d be willing to bet more than half the set’s purchased will remain in box and even then there’s on 15,000 of them all over the world. Supply/demand 🤷♂️ the price is justifiable from an economic perspective.
@@LC-hv1qnI wouldn't say that only easy techniques are being used here. It looks awesome. But Lego had zero effort coming up with a design for this - if you compare it with a normal Lego Set that has at least 2 guys working probaly full time on it, just think about the wages Lego saved here compared to the Lion Knights Castle - massive amount of money for sure.
I love how we finally got a proper black falcons castle, however imagine this set was the fright knights and basil the bat lord would of been sick
I ordered this today thanks to your review! You did a great job showing off the great parts of this set, as well as the bad. It helped convince me that the shortcomings were ones I was ready and willing to put up with, and the scale was exactly what I wanted.
I could justify the bloated price because it fit my needs perfectly, and your video was helped me realize it. Thank you!
How were you able to order it? I heard it sold out in 3-4 hours and the site was strained. I would have loved to buy it :(
I just bought this set. I’m so HYPED!
Same here!!!!
I appreciate all the thought put into recommending this set and admitting that it's new territory.
Wow , glade to see you have this set right in front of you !! 🎉 a review set for you to share with us ! Your work is incredible
Im definitely getting this but i wish the interior was better :/
hey it gives you something to do and show the world your interior design skills! (I just wish we got a full 360 of the set closed, I'm thinking of making a MASSIVE mountain and putting that on top) I'm probably not get it tho so that dream is hopefully there for someone else to do
I thought the same but I realized I will enjoy decorating the interior myself making it more Black Falcony.
Yes it is weird that we do not get a full 360 view of the set closed? I can't tell which side is the front and what is the back. Hopefully it going to be a good surprise. @@Kinisuru...
Mountain Fortress sold out in 3 hours.
Snack Shack is close to selling out at 9 hours. Will probably sell out before the 12 hour mark.
Old Train Engine Shed is not far behind and will probably sell out within 24 hours.
General Store has sold a little over half now. I expect it to sell out within 3 days.
Parisian Street hasn't reached the halfway point yet. I expect the Parisian Street to sell out in about a week.
The designers get 5% of the sales price. To put that into perspective:
The Mountain Fortress designer will receive a check for a bit over half a million Euro before tax.
The Snack Shack designer will receive a check for 67,500 Euro.
The Old Train Shed Designer gets one for 330,000 Euro.
The General Store will bring in 210,000 Euro.
Parisian Street will be about 435,000 Euro if it ends up selling out as well.
If I had been gifted this castle as a kid I would have gone CRAZY with joy. Well, I feel like a kid! Thanks for the honest review! I will be definitely trying to get one ❤
I am 100% grabbing this one. Castle was my absolute favorite theme and this one is perfect for me.
Please keep reviewing these bricklink designer program sets! They're awesome
This is interesting because as far as I can remember, Lego has never done a Castle or medieval set depicting a cold, snowy environment. I also like the feel of the castle, looking hard and mean and not happy and beautiful by traditional standards like the Lion's Knight Castle is, matching it's barren and icy landscape around it. For anyone serious about having a Lego Castle layout, this set can definitely offer a change of pace and variety when compared to all the other castle sets throughout the ages that are usually depicted as being in a warm, temperate climate.
Definitely a cool set, always loved the medieval sets
If you're going to get this....make sure you get the Lion Knight's Castle first. Lion Knight's castle is cheaper (5% vip knocks it to 380, other cashback, GWP, double VIP make it even better), has 500 more pieces, has 22 minifigures, more horses, more prints and banners.
I own 2 Lion knights castle, and I don’t know if I’d buy this one over a third, I kinda feel the 12+ additional minis (including extra horse and cow) plus pieces make that a better set. If this set was 300$ I’d say it would be about right. But 380$? Worse still I can’t wait for this to hit discount and get it at a decent price. Even Lion knights castle has gone on sale at Lego. So no chance here
This castle comes to about the price of the medieval blacksmith and 3 of the 3-in-1 creator falcon castles. I feel those were worth more to a builder than this one. Lot more rebrickable options for them too if you don't feel like designing something yourself. Only the blacksmith just retired though.
@@jolunrohthocoudis526 This set will never see a discount. As soon as it sells out the prices are going to shoot up by a lot. Today is the only day to get this at the RRP.
@@jolunrohthocoudis526this isn't going to hit discount lol it's not something that you're going to see in stores. It'll be sold for a day and only go up in price
Supporting independent creators with limited run sets is an interesting idea, but it creates a really toxic second market 😢
Thanks for the great review David. It was great to see all the details through someone else before we can preorder. It looks even better in a review video and nice to see it pairs well with Lion Knight's castle. Definitely one to get come 7 Feb.
I’m excited for this!! I definitely hope I get a copy but happy building to anyone that does end up with it!
Thank you for this video! Otherwise I don't think I would've heard of the set. I was lucky enough to get a pre-order in and I'm really looking forward to build it!
It is MASSIVE. Was on the fence before, but maybe not now.
Great video David, finally get to see some decent images of the build. One thing that I don't like about the build, which is easily fixable is the DBG arch pieces inside. There is no need for them to be that colour. All of the walls around them are LBG. When you compared this to the Lion Knights castle is stood out even more and made the LKC look so much tidier and polished. Keep up the awesome work.
The poop is a reference to actual medieval castles where the popout windows as seen at 9:20 were actually used as bathrooms that discarded the waste off the side of a castle since there was no plumbing
Crazy they sent out early ones already! So awesome 😍😍
DAMN, it looks insane next to the Lion Knights castle
THIS SET IS AMAZING.
the fortress looks so good and I would buy this but I've been eyeing the general store since crowd support and I cannot wait to preorder it!
Thanks for the review and honest assessment of the set. As you said, Lego is very good at getting the QC process squared away with their sets, so I don't have too much worry. I did not realize how massive this set is, and I even looked at the creator video via Bircklink. The comparison with Lion Knights Castle really helps to drive the size home.
As for some more "pop" with the rooms, I'm not worried. I may have some pieces lying around to help with that. Black Falcons 4 Life!
Great review, thanks. I have my alarm set for 02/07 11a EST!
I really wish LEGO would release more than 1-2 castle-themed sets a year.
I'm super excited to see what they do around the Black Knights or Dragon Knights in the future!
I made the ''mistake'' of starting a Castle collection (working on a village) besides my Star Wars collection.
My hobby is getting pricey, but when I just look at my village so far it always brings me a smile.
This Fortress looks amazing, but I already have 2 Castles (3 if I count my 1986 BF castle) and the snow theme make it a bit unfit for me. I think this one would go nice with the viking village though.
Love the look of that set ❤️
That looks sick
Scalpers are going to have a field day with this..
This might be the best castle lego made
Even though I can't afford Lego as a hobby, I'm glad that they're bringing out more full castle sets, they're just awesome
Thanks for this great review, I didn’t know your channel before, but after seeing your review I left you a follow and a like. I’m considering ordering one, not because I hope, that the value will rise in the near future, just because I like Lego and their products. Hopefully if enough people will show an interest in this product, there will be more sets like this one. Keep up the good work, greetings from Vienna, Austria. Greetings
I really would adore a SW base for Imperial Soldiers done similarly, while that range is known for the vehicles, an outpost or two wouldn't be too bad.
Yeah but just because it’s star wars it would cost 800 dollars
@@Traingamer5 if it is a substantial building (in a 32x32 or similar sized baseplate) I won't have trouble and besides, look at the Mos Eisley Cantina. That thing is the perfect place holder to base it upon.
My problem with ALL of your videos is that you always make me want them more. 😂
This bricklink castle is way better than the other and the interior you can make it colorful yourself
Agreed
Love it. Need it.
Great video
I love the way this set is so accessible! BTW, this set sold out within hours of release--not anywhere near 24 hours! 😮
It appears we're entering a new reality where classic Castle themed Legos that some of us have been waiting for since childhood are all but unobtainable. If you missed that 3 hour window, expect to pay near $700-800 or more if you want to be a part of this. Real bummer.
Such an amazing, set something i've always wanted since i was just getting into lego as a kid but it sucks that it's limited time and with a high price tag (understandably) I'm going to miss out that I will forever feel more depressed about
Of course, there could be more minifigures, but initially I thought that there were supposed to be 6 minifigures in this set, so thanks for the video, because I was thinking about buying this set, but unfortunately it was difficult to tell from the description and from photos how many of minifigures there actually is. Now we know 🙂
Fantastic video of a fantastic set. Many thanks.
The exterior looks really solid but man that interior is rough :/
Yeah, it's killing it for me. 400 bucks and a six month wait, they could at least finish the set.
Outside it looks good but yeah that interiors is just super plain. It’s like they spent all their budget on the outside of the castle and forgot to leave some for the minifigures and the interior. 🤦♂
@@dralokad5862they did exactly that (I hear the limit is 4000 bricks) and I for one love it. I'm not a good moc maker and it's going to be much much easier to modify the rooms than it would be to modify the exterior.
This looks awesome! Too bad I have quit collecting LEGO. I have discovered it's much easier and more enjoyable to appreciate LEGO on CZcams than buying box after box myself and cannot open them coz no room to display them...
Same here. Not to say, it's so much cheaper, you can save lots of money like this :)
@@seiya880 I am now mostly collecting custom 1/6 action figures, probably not cheaper haha but I do find myself enjoying their presence in the display shelf much more than LEGO sets. I also collect custom LEGO minifigures
I have so many sets not built because no room
I display my set one at a time....provided that the set fits the display area!
I Love this castle!❤
Excellent video, one of your best :)
Just pre-ordered mine! Sold out in 4 hours!!
Thank you for your reviews, I love Lego and you are one of my favorite Lego reviewers. Do you get to keep the review sets that are sent to you or do you have to return them eventually?
It took 3 hours to sell out.
I like the little siege tower in front of the lion knights' micro castle, so you know the falcons are planning an attack
If you think about it - this castle has less mini-figs; however, the factions are almost even due to the Lion Knights castle having a small scouting party of Black falcon soldiers including a horse. When combined with the other castle, it makes for a fantastic companion set.
Looks great.
Can’t wait for my order!
Thanks for the info!
I don't buy lego anymore so it's no problem for me!, Watching reviews is enough of a fix for me.
cool set!
would love more classic castle by lego!
Hm, a 360 degree turnaround would have been nice. Now I still have no idea how the castle looks from the front when closed. You only showed the back closed.
Damn it! I'm only just seeing this now. Missed this one.
This is phenomenal, excellent video review 👍😊
Would make a sweet Winterfell, if get a few of these👌
Lovin how many sets Lego has thst easily can be made asoiaf'ified.
Viking village is an easy Iron islands, rope bridge and everything 💯😆
this is incredibly useful as i decide whether to buy 1, 2, or none of these
I like that the lion knights have a better interior and the black falcons have a dull interior but fantastic exterior. I think all the gray actually works quite nicely for a mountainous castle
Your T-6 and lighthouse is inspired!!
I love it I hope I can get my pre order in
I got my pre order got two!!
this would make a great wolfenstein moc
I really love the Bricklink Designer Program sets, but they're way too expensive for me, at least their Australian Prices are.
Just managed to pre order my copy 😁
my top 2 wanted sets are a big 18 plus imperial flagship and a notre dame but big like colloseum or a cologne cathedral
Although I never got into the theme, this looks really good.
Another collection… to collect. I love medieval.
With this said, I’d love for Lego to rerelease the yellow retro castle. Just for fun.
expensive but pretty cool castle. I would say must buy for lion king's castle owners
I really like the design, great job, with all details, snow elements... Also castle is really tall. However I don't understand the architect thoughts about principal entrance. When the model is folded, your enter the castle and soon after you are outside on the path to the second draw bridge entrance. Really guarded castle, no doubt, but why the outside path is so low then? Any Lion knight can simply jump over and skip the 1st entrance..., only danger left is freezy stream, if he falls down...😅 If I would buy this set, I would definitely redesign it with straight ramp and that would be the principal entrance. The original entrance with yellow bricks above I would make a secret entrance (on the water). Overall I still prefer Lion's castle.
it looked beautiful, kinda similar with lion knights castle, which I love so much because the wall texture is not too much and the castellation look not too edgy like the other castle sets
100% will be buying
I’d like to see a castle build in the style of a defensive layout that has more catwalks and less pointy towers. A castle you could build a siege around.
i would love to see the Mountain Fortress with the Medieval Blacksmith to see how they stand together. Personally im more into Black Falcons than Lion Knights and this castle looks stunning. I know the interiors could be better but that give us space to create our own interiors, which means that everyone can have a different castle :)
i'm only 14 and was a baby when the last wave of castle came out but im absolutely obbsessed i have every lego castle set on shelves right now except a couple of promos and obviously the bricklink designer ones, 400 is too much for the forestman castle.
Good review! 👍
Just found out about these sets today =(
Sadly I am way too late and won't be getting a copy of this beautiful castle for myself. Hearing that it sold out in 3 hours, woulda had to have alarms set to have actually have gotten one. I'll just have to settle with the Lion Knight's castle and couple 3 in 1 castles that I have, as well as the castle market coming out that I'll definitely be getting. Also going to be sure to be ready to pre order the forest stronghold later this year.
It's a very nice MOC, but the use of exclusivity to drive FOMO really rubs me the wrong way. In the end, it's simply too expensive for what it is. I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of them snatched up by scalpers.
The FOMO is real!!
Definitely want this for my own collection, getting a second isn’t a bad idea
I just wish lego would make it a normal line...
Love it NEED it i have a squad of black falcon knights a general AND a black falcon prince that wuld go very well with this castle but with every set it looks a bit squished in I know you can spread out to get into the interior I wish they didn't go with the dollhouse look like the lion knights castle but used sections I wish the tower wuld be widened for a better throne room least 5 figures this set looks amazing though
Good objective review. Thanks
