The Righteous Brothers were a great duo of the 1960s. Bobby Hatfield sang high tenor, Bill Medley sang baritone-bass. They started with a different name, but after singing at a soul club that catered largely to black personnel from a nearby Marine base, and being told by the appreciative crowd, "That was righteous, brothers!", they knew they'd found their new name.
Unchained Melody got its start as a pure instrumental, a tune written as the romantic theme for a dramatic movie simply called Unchained , about a man imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit, but who is sustained by his love for the woman loyally waiting for him on the outside. The tune got some airplay on the radio, lyrics were later written for it, and that's what brought it to the duo's attention. Because it was so obviously a one-singer song, they literally flipped a coin to determine who would sing it, and the right guy, Bobby Hatfield, won. Bill Medley would have looked silly just standing there doing nothing, so he always stepped off and surrendered the stage to his partner and friend for this song.
You've Lost That Loving Feeling, Unchained Melody, and Soul & Inspiration are the perfect trifecta of Righteous Brothers songs. You've Lost That Loving Feeling, in particular, was the most frequently requested song on American radio of the entire twentieth century. You really ought to give it a listen.

Hundreds of singers have sung this song but none do it better than Bobby Hatfield. The studio version of this song was used in the film 'Ghost' but this live version is stupendous. No auto tune or gimmicks just pure talent. He had a cold, his mother was in the audience watching him sing for the first time and he suffered with stage fright. Watch when he hits the last high note his face does not contort like other singers he just smiles and bites his lip as if to say 'I nailed it'. Your reactions are really loud but the song was quite muted. They are not actual brothers and there are 2 of them. However, they sing a solo song on each of their albums.

The "Righteous Brothers" was a name that Bobby Hatfield (your singer tonight) and Bill Medley acquired while performing at a club in the south. When they had finished their show and were walking offstage, a black Marine stood up and said, "That's righteous, brother."
Their singng style was often referred to as "Blue-Eyed Soul."
Some interesting facts about this performance are: it was performed on The Andy Williams Show's Valentine's Day Special of 1965. The Bros were dressed identically and Andy Williams, who was a singing star right up there with the likes of Sinatra, Dean Martin, the late, RIP Tony Bennet, was attired in a pink pullover and white trousers for the VD Special.
Andy talked with The Bros for a few minutes and Bobby was the main responder. He seemed to be almost gasping for air as he spoke, actually, he was suffering from an upper respiratory infection, a cold, bronchitis?
Bobby also suffered from extreme stage fright to the point where he would lose his lunch, rather violently before going onstage.
If that wasn't bad enough, his mother was in the audience watching him perform live for the very first time and he was very worried about disappointing her.
Pretty sure nobody was disappointed with what has been called the best live vocal performance of all time.

This song is more than famous. It has been covered by over 600 other artists, though none of them ‘own’ it the way Bobbie Hatfield does. Professional music teachers, opera singers, experts in musical technique rave about the quality of his voice and his mastery of the medium. He was the rarest of masculine voices - a counter tenor, who could hit pure notes and hold them that many sopranos would struggle with. He rarely used falsetto. He didn’t need to. Unchained Melody was one of the most played songs of the 20th century. Another Righteous Brothers song “You Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’” was the most requested song of the 20th century, That’s right! More than the Beatles or Elvis or anyone else you might care to name. It amazes me when people say they have never heard of them. They were and are among the giants of popular music. And as also every commentator notes - no auto tune, no gimmicks - just pure unparalleled talent.

Fun fact about Bobby, he was into sports while in school and he was actually being scouted by pro baseball teams. He could have been a pro baseball player, but he chose his music and I am so glad he did. His nickname was The Blond Bomber. Bobby and his voice were truly a work of art, every song he sang was pure magic. For me, Bobby was the best singer God put on this earth, and he will always be my favorite. If you want to hear more of just Bobby try, "Only You", "For Your Love", "Love You for Sentimental Reasons", "Ebb Tide", " My Prayer", "Crying In The Chapel", "Stay With Me", "I Need A Girl", and many others. Him and Bill had several great hits together as well, "You've Lost That Loving Feeling", "Soul and Inspiration", "I'm So Lonely", "Rock and Roll Heaven", and so many others. Thanks for doing this one, this song truly belongs to Bobby!

Bobby Hattfield was one-half of the Righteous Brothers, and they were most certainly not "one hit wonders." They were a big bit hit here in the US in the 60's. I, as a teenager girl was among the many who had a crush on Bobby Hattfield after he sang this song on LIVE TV on the Andy Williams Show. There was no auto-tune, just his voice, LIVE on TV. He had only one shot at it - and you saw it. It's been considered arguably the finest televised live performance ever, of all time. The Righteous Brothers went on to record many other hits - like "You've Lost the Loving Feeling," "Soul and Inspiration," "You'll Never Walk Alone," "Just Once in my Life," "Georgia on my Mind," and others. But what you saw was Bobby's best. You'll never see a finer performance - or better talent - anywhere. Ever.

So happy y’all did this! Without a doubt probably the single greatest live performance ever. No gimmicks, no voice modifications just pure talent. I doubt anyone today could pull it off. The 50s had some fantastic music, keep going down this road. (In just a couple of minutes millions of women fell head over heels…& 9 months later millions of babies were born lol) -too bad you missed the introduction to this video, both Bill & Bobby explained things.

Yes, this song was performed by just one of the duo....Bobby Hatfield. This duo were not actually brothers, but they came up with the name when they were performing at a military base, and a guy in the audience said, "That was righteous brother". The other part of the duo is Bill Medley. Bill has a deep voice, and the songs "Heart and Inspiration", ( czcams.com/video/cwTdRpYTS4c/video.html ) as well as "You've Lost That Loving Feeling"( czcams.com/video/uOnYY9Mw2Fg/video.html )are great examples of the duo singing. You may have heard the latest song by Bill Medley (Bobby Hatfield had passed away by then), it was a duet with Bill and Jennifer Warren called "I've Had The Time Of My life", ( czcams.com/video/4BQLE_RrTSU/video.html ) which was sung in the movie, Dirty Dancing.
Sam, I'm sure that you don't recognize me, as I used a different name in the past, but I'm the guy who sent you your first ever package from America...a Justin Tucker jersey, and when I saw that it was a bit too big, I sent you a smaller one. I just want to say that I love your family and your videos, and it's really great to see how much more mature Denzel and Atlanta have grown over the last few years. Denzel is growing into a handsome young man, and Atlanta is growing into a beautiful young woman. Spend as much time as you can with your kids, because they will grow up really fast, and move out to be on their own.
Another great singer, who is still alive today and performing, is Tom Jones. Listen to his emotional song, "I'll Never Fall In Love Again". czcams.com/video/sdDVMCbG0FM/video.html

Dirty Dancing was in 1987. Bobby died in 2003.

@@Aurora-tp3dy You're correct, I was mistaken as to when Bobby Hatfield died. Thank you for correcting me.
