This was 1965. No auto tunes. Just a 25 year old young man singing live on TV with is mom in the audience. Well groomed. You can understand every word and the audience is sitting respectfully quiet just taking it all in. Hundreds of artists have recorded this song but NOBODY did it as well as Bobby Hatfield. Bobby passed away in 2003. Bill Medley was still performing at the time the pandemic hit. RIP Bobby.

I like the way Bobby smiles at the end and puts his teeth on his lower lip for a minute. He knew that he nailed it. Here we are six decades later still loving it.

His story goes that his parents were in the audience that night and he was really nervous about being able to reach that final very high note, and that he was so happy and relieved when he did it that that was why he bit his lip at the very end. Wonderful watching you watching your mom!

This was a live performance. No gimmicks. And he had a cold. His mom was in the audience and he really wanted to do well. Immortal.

This is the single greatest solo vocalist performance ever recorded. He was flawless.

I am 77 years old. I remember when the Righteous Brothers were first played on radio. Their sound was gorgeous. We all thought they were gentlemen of color. When we started seeing them on television and in concerts, we were shocked to see that they were white gentlemen. Around that time, their music was referred to as "blue eyed soul". Even after all these decades, I still get the good chills when I see and hear this song by the late Bobby Harfield. He died way too early at 52 years old in November of 2003. They were still performing, and he was resting in his hotel room before going to the gig to perform. He never showed up at the venue. Telephone calls to his hotel room were not answered. When people went to see what was wrong, they found him lifeless from a possibly untreated heart condition, pushed over the edge by Cocaine. So sad. His partner, Bill Medley is still alive and active. I guess some candles were meant to burn brightly but not very long. Who knows.

Bobby sings it like he means it. You can hear it in his voice and see it in his face. Bravo Bobby Hatfield for leaving us this masterpiece. May you RIP.

This makes me so emotional - his voice and his lovely handsome face from a time gone by. Unparalleled.

Bobby Hatfield's voice was cosmically unreal. I've lost count of how many times I've heard this song but never fail to be moved. Music has never been better.

How small this world is, that a family on the other side of the world melts from a teenage heartthrob 50 years ago from the other side of the world ❤

That was a live performance, straight up, on national TV. No retakes, no auto tune, no nothing. Just Bobby Hatfield's pure talent. Many have recorded this song before and since, but none - ever - as good as this version. RIP, Bobby.

This song is considered one of the greatest test for raw talent skill and artistry for singers. It is a lot more complicated than most folks realize and it swiftly exposes any faults, mistakes, and etc for any singer more so that most songs.

My favorite all time singer. There will never, ever, be another Bobby Hatfield. No one will ever sing this song the way Bobby did. This one belongs to only him.
