Dean seems like a great guy. I like the way he says 'I think" or "What I do". Odds are Dean knows more about rams than just about anyone else yet he doesn't come off as a know it all. Dean doesn't tell you how you "have" to do it. Another great Co-Op video with lots of great helpful information. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.
I think he is a teacher. He has a wonderful way of explaining things.
Right, because there's no one way to care for fishes. Like people, every fish can be different. Lots of non biological factors also affect their behaviour
This guy is the man, love his passion and dedication and willingness to help and share.
Great "species spotlight" featuring one of the most knowledgeable fishkeepers out there. Love the great camerawork and editing; also the first good footage of the mysterious "Black Ram". Love this channel.
I live in the U.K. and have looked at so many videos of Co Op and Deans fish room which are so informative and enjoyable as well.Learnt so much about rams in this video and are one of my favourite fish.Thank you again.
The man, the myth, the legend!
Aaayyeeeee! I am loving the Dean videos!
This is the fish I will start up again after 30+ year. Cory you made me start with fish again. Ty
Always a good time when Dean's on the channel
German Blue Rams are the First aquarium fish I saw that "Popped" in a LFS tank with wood and Java Moss. I'll never forget how amazing they looked :)
Dean your awsome at filltering vast amounts of experience into a easy to follow set of instructions thank you
Love these species spotlights! Way to go Dean!
Thanks. Been waiting for this one!
I was thinking of getting these after one of your videos for 20 gal ideas. Thanks!
Thanks Dean your the man! I love these fish they are absolutely beautiful. One thing I have noticed is they do much better in an established tank as opposed to a newer set up. If your thinking about adding a pair of rams id wait until the aquarium is well established
I love these fish, they catch my eye every time I see them! Thanks for the wonderful video, I feel a little bit more like keeping rams might be possible for me. :D
Thanks for the tips Dean. Greatly appreciated.
Super cool and important info from the man who knows best! Thanks for sharing đ€đ€©
Thank you for sharing your knowledge! So informative, perfect pace! What a set up you have going on there, wow! Iâm going to find the other video that you mentioned now. Have a lovely day.
GBRs are awesome. Thank you Mr. Dean for sharing your expertise on these fish.
Yay! More Dean!!
Hey Dean and Cory I'm new to the hobby but really am enjoying. Love the channel and of the useful knowledge. Hoping to breed a pair of German Blues in the future but had to start me a community tank
I can't get enough of Dean's fish room
I love dean and Cory. They are the master of the fish world
always love your vids, dean. so informative and it's just like a sitdown with a buddy/mentor. :)
and i'm glad to hear you advocate for rams... a lot of people are like BOOOOOO boooo BOOOOOOO hisss. saying they just die and stuff.
I played this video at least 10 times, thank you for the advice đ»
I learned a lot from your videos with Dean.
Epic content as usual!!!
More Dean, awesome!
Thank you Dean!
Thanks to AC for publishing!
Rams + Dean + Aquarium Co-Op = đ
Well done Dean!
Undergravel filters in the background!!!! Niiiice. They are the best for clear water.
And utilize the gravel as a HUGE biological media source...
dean makes learning fun!
Excellent information mate, thanks.
Greets from Australia ;)
Dean is so cool!
really beautiful fish, with an awesome personality.
This is 2 years Im glad I watch it. I got super lucky and local lady breeds electric blues and she just brought in a round of fry. My guy isn't a baby, but he is not full grown. He had the best body condition out of them all, and I also lucked out on his clue coloring too. Thankfully she too let's her rams have a cooling off time before they come into the store. So my new guy is doing much then most would. I do need bump his heat a bit. 79 is really pushing it
Dean is a national treasure
Very artistic camera angles!
Just bought a German blue after having watched this! His name is Sid Fishous ;) best aquarium channel on CZcams hands down!
Such a book of knowledge that Dean. Maybe some day, I'll be lucky enough to call his german blue rams my own. Thank you for video. Loved all the shots of the fish Jimmy.
Hi Candiđ
Dean, your videos have really got me interested in rams. I hunted around local stores and they said they didn't sell them because they die in our water. I saw some in Pets at Home knowing the internet reputation. Anyway I bought half a dozen and 3 months later I have fry with the dad proudly marching them round the tank. It's a very dirty tank with lots of algae and mulm. GH is over 180, ph 7.5. The adults are healthy looking but small.
I love my rams so much they are my favorite so i enjoyed this video! You should make a video on how to breed them đ
OG Dean in the house đȘ My idol â€ïž Loved the LR Bretz stream.
Always great content in videos and really helpful! Learned a lot from you and looking more things to learn in the hobby! Also looking forward for you to ship items internationally! Looking forward to buy some stuff specially the easy green fert! đ
I just got one and after the first one I want more!
Great information coming from the man, the myth, the legend himself! Haha Dean's the man! đ Great video Co-op team! đ
Thanks for the vid
Dean is the man
Lots of good info here.
I liked the length to this longer than most spotlight vid!
I love them! Very peaceful in my tank, they just mind their own business!
Thank you for that
GREAT INFO! TY
Superb review! I have been looking forward to this for ages! Thanks Dean!
Dean's the man, would love to meet him Cory and Jimmy bit difficult living in uk, maybe one day
Love the aquarium shelves.... any tips on where you got them or how you made them?
More spotlights and vids by dean!!
Spectacular video! I enjoy the multiple camera angles. I am so excited to keep and hopefully spawn some rams! đ§Ą
I've never had luck with them in Sarasota Florida tap water, but now I have an RO/DI unit...! So now, according to others in the area, I should have success with them...! Keeping them alive for over a week will be the first win... Only time will tell... Thanks again for more free brain learnins...! Keep up your awesomeness and go enjoy some nature today...!
@jermainejackson3911 try Bolivian rams... I really like em better than golds or Germans...
I have a couple with ap cactoiudes or somthing like that... they doing perfect!
Great info Dean. TY. I wish you shipped fish!
Nice video...beautiful fish.
Great information. IMO I just found the secondary camera a little distracting as it was used far too often.
I use my raindrops water for all my tanks.
Usually lets it go for about 5 minutes, and begin to collect rain water with big bucket.
In my area, the water very soft, no more than 50 ppm.
Rain poured from ceramic tile - pvc and free fall to my bucket.
Ordinary suburb area, far from busy street and no industry building
Im lucky my local breeder has adapted them to 78f very well, every german blue ram I've seen from them are very active and healthy i have one in my 20 long with rummynose tetras, scarlet temple, bacopa caroliniana and a red amazon sword so I would definitely look for a local breeder if you just want them for a display.
Master deanđđŒđ
Would love to find a LFS that gets their rams from Dean. They are so pretty and healthy looking. Thank you Cory and Dean for a very informative video. My son is into the German Blue Rams and I like the little guys too. I would love to find the black rams.
OMG, i got the first fish in my 55g on Thursday, Electric blue Ram Pair :) im in the UK so majority of fish are from breeders in lfs. ty for this upload guys, Deans a master so his imformation is always top notch :)
Hello Michđ
One of my favorite fish đ đ
Awesome đđ»đ€
I love rams! I have hard water tho. Cant wait to get Ro unit to try and remedy the hard water.
Thank you đ
Water softener should add any sodium to your water, the salt is only used to âcleanâ the resin that absorb the harder metals, and runs a back wash to rinse the resin and drains in your sump area.
I like the new aquarium coop Hank Hill avatar.
I'm currently growing out a large brood of GBR in a clear tote, for a few months now, because the parents did a great job raising them in their 10g but they were too large to remain there. They're all healthy and eat like crazy a blend of live and dry foods. I've kept them at 80F and have wrapped the tote with bubble wrap just to insulate a bit. It has a HOB filter. I feed on and off during the day an average of 3 times. They are too large for microworms. I feed live baby brine shrimp daily.
I so love rams and you are right Dean, they are one of the most beautifully colored fish next to salties. It's their personality that is great too. They love to interact with you and are very curious about everything in their environment. They hover and circle inspecting every cranny of the fully planted tanks. I did separate the pair to breed in a 10g as they herded all the community fish into a corner when they bred in a larger tank. They were stressed and never raised anything there. Even in the 10g they never raised a brood until I left the light out on the tank and wrapped 3 sides in black paper. I left a pothos vine in there but removed all other plants. I kept leaves all over the place and an assortment of snails (who they terrorized if near the fry).
Questions: What is the best size to bring to my LFS? How many should I bring? (not a super busy store) I've shown them the video of my rams and they're interested in them and will give me store credit. How much $ credit should I expect to get per fish here in New Jersey? I will probably just trade for some more fish that I need here (who really NEEDS fish? I DO>>> I DO!)
They have Gold rams!
I really love any videos you all put out and have learned to very much! Maybe I'll get a chance to visit some day.
Just gotta remember if they sell them for $15 a fish you aren't going to get $15 because they have to make a profit along with care for them until they sell. So if they sell them for $15 I'd guess they'd offer you like $5 a fish. But that's just guessing the price per. I think my local fish store sells them for like $20-$25 a fish, but petsmart sells them at like $8. So it's hard to say.
I love rams!
Fresh drift woods will also help low pH and certain stones will naturally lower in safe ways. The safest way is natural and slow so the fish can adapt
I have three of those cool rams bro!!đ
Great video!! I truly ador my Rams but worry about tank mates handling the heat. I would love to add Ember Tetras or Neon Tetras. Maybe a follow-up video someday?
I should have noted 85 degrees in there.
Good o'l Dean!
Great video dean!!! đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€
When did you get the black knight rams ? Wow
What is the minimum tank size for breeding
nice fish
(Remove large snails to protect potential eggs?) I moved some very big Inca Mystery snails in, when I set up my planted tank and now I have a pair of Rams added. I set up the pots and saucers and wondered if they should be moved out. (I seem to be a "master" snail breeder whether I like it or not and have donated about sixty to a local aquarium to keep them from mobbing the Cat food)
Hey cory,
When you guys expect to get more co2 regulators in stock on the site?
Adding Pairing information might also help.. for example, does it matter how many are in a single tank, some fish you should keep in odd numbers for example because they become aggressive.
Totally agree with locally bred. Whether itâs rams, plecos or anything, they are used to your water and your success rate will be higher
How do you feel about organic soil substrates for growing plants
I think that dark coloring makes them look cool. Donât even need to be completely black.
i love it
Those dark knight rams!!! â€â€â€
Hello Meganđ
I have a single Bolivian Ram in a 20g community (planted), newly added. It seems a bit shy and eats fairly slowly by just grazing on food that manages its way down. There are places for it to hide and it swims in the open. Any suggestion on how to help it feel more secure/more willing to eat? Frozen foods? More time?
We are upsizing a 20 gallon community to a 55 gallon next week and making it a massive live bearer/yo-yo loach community. The 20 gallon will be free space, and I think we are going to try and breed some German blues for profit. Itâs $100 for a trio, pray we can keep stable water levels
@Jacob Dean. I know the work involved in keeping stable water levels. I have 8 discus and they are very picky about stable water levels.
From my experience, if the tap water is too hard, say over 8, almond leaves doesn't work well and neither does using peat. I think buying an RO/DI filter for soft water fish is by far the best option.
I didn't know that apistogramma, corys and the other species you mentioned could live in such warm water or do you moderate the temperature for the other fish?
You mentioned "sparring", i just bought 3 online from Aqua Huna (off of the coop site), and the rams wouldn't stop sparring, it looked very aggressive. So I took them all out and separated them. I'm worried they'll kill each other. Is it safe to let them spar / will they eventually stop and sort out a hierarchy? They're under an inch long, pretty young. What do u think?
I canât find out if you can use black sand for German blue rams and others. Specifically Aqua Natural Aquarium Sand - in the color Galaxy Black. It says in one description that itâs made from quartz.
Basically is there a black or very dark Sand that is safe for small earth eaters? Any help would be appreciated!!!
I have a water softener sytem in my household. Should I bypass this to use in my awuarium? I'm new to the hobby, and seen this fish on a facebook page and immediately fell in love!!
Depends how hard ur water is if its less than 8 its fine unless u want to breed them
I just brought 3 gbr on Friday. 1 male and 2 females. Such a pretty fish, had a pair about 10 years ago and I don't know why I waited so long to get them agian
Any tips for a beginner planning on getting a singular gbr for a community tank ?
