    Ive got about 7or8 customers that specifically asked for stripes. One in particular pays me to cut and stripe half an acre with a walk behind roller mower. I said to her it would be cheaper for someone else to come with a sit down mower but she likes 22 inch stripes up and down her garden. Useless on small gardens but look great with long or wide lawns. I've got mulcher mowers, roller mower, 4 wheeled mower, 3 wheeled mower and a small one for awkward gardens. I think its my tools for the day so i buy what i need.

    I run two Honda pro mower. One roller and one 4 wheel. I mainly use the roller during the year and cut all my jobs on a height setting number 4 and now the same way ish time come rain or shine. Maintenance is key on any but kit and keep the blade sharp and the box clean will get a full box every time even in the wet. My 4 wheel is mainly for first cuts at the beginning of year if needed or for overgrow jobs or even spare if the roller goes down.

I’ve got one 4 wheeler for the rougher ground maintenance that doesn’t require a tidier finish. I always used roller mowers for years because the cut is much better but they just break too often when used a lot on bumpy ground and can be expensive for repair. Four wheel machines are far more reliable so now its four wheel unless someone is really keen and are a good customer.

  • @jackw9920
    @jackw9920 Před měsícem +1

    Personally I just use a Honda 4 wheeler but then the majority of my clients and gardens are more average sized houses/gardens. A couple who want stripes have their own roller mowers that I use.
    I also think it depends on the lawn. Most lawns look better with stripes but some odd shaped ones or bumpy lawns actually can look worse with stripes in my opinion.
    It's also worth remembering that rear roller mowers cost significantly more to buy and also repair so if providing stripes, it needs to be at a higher price.
    Before I went self-employed, I used to work for a maintenance company that prided themselves on a premium garden maintenance service and they only used Hayter roller mowers and it did leave a lovely finish, but ultimately for the vast majority of my customers, they wouldn't want to pay the extra that a rear roller mower would add to the price of their cut .
    I think that the lawns you stripe in your videos do look far better for having stripes so I can see why the clients want them.

No customers complain about lack of stripes but I double cut most of my lawns which are small to medium and the couple of large lawns are more moss than grass so would be wasted anyway.
