    This feature would make Rhino incredibly powerful for all of us artists/modelers. If I could sketch/draw right in Rhino instead of photoshop (much like Blender Grease Pen) and
    1. Have the ability edit the brush type (size, weight, type)
    2. Support for graphic tablets and pen control/pressure
    3. The ability to further customize and edit the type of line/Brush in custom display modes

  • @dithom2

    Architecture background here:
    1.Annotate models directly would be awesome. I teach and having to go through models and explain what s wrong is sometimes difficult.
    2.Documenting without having to go through a 2D workflow is or should be the future (I believe) .
    3. The freedom of hand sketching directly in 3D is quite pleasant and the reason I expanded to blender (grease pencil) but it is still bothersome in many ways. The timeline is also useful I found.
    4. Tablet mode would be so comfortable I totally agree with the other comments :)

      @@Rhinoceros3d of course, here are some:
      1- The make2d having different lineweights or colours (greyscale) for closer and distant things.
      2- Add depth in the section command.
      3- Better representation of meshes in 2ddrawings capting the outedges instead of the whole mesh wireframe or at least the hability to choose only to process mesh edges instead of the whole wireframe in make2d command.
      4- Hability to have templates so I can set and after open a base document that already have my settings sut as sheets with my stamps and maybe common detail drawings or tags.
      5- Hability to scale in render view to the same proportions as the make2d that is in detail view and will go to the printing so maybe I can mix it up the technical drawing with the render view so I can generate integrative images that are compelling to final client that doesn't necessarily understand fully the 2d drawings. Sometimes I lose some time doing this in photoshop while i could just overlay it.
      6- Also since RiR is around, maybe hability to cast geometry into categories directly in rhino in order to make this transition better since nowadays is kind of excluse to people who use GH and more like rhino being a plugin in revit, maybe for us users would be better if revit function as the complementary software instead of rhino.

    This is great indeed. I tried the sketching with the custom buttons you have shown on Huion pen display in the office I work in, but there is a problem. No matter what command runs or what operation is being performed, Rhino will stutter every 3 to 4 seconds if the pen is being used to control the viewport. Now, yes I understand this is highly a WIP option and in the video a Wacom tablet has been used so that might be a case or huion drivers, or even something completely different. But nonetheless, after showing us this, it would be a shame to not be implemented in a proper manner in R8. This would be the biggest upgrade to any software since OS GUI =). Good work and keep it up!

    Nice to see this development after such a long time using Rhino. Gravity Sketch is really trying to get a foot hold in this 3D Sketching space.
    @McNeel & Associates: please develop an Apple Silicon iPad app. The curves creation/editing in Rhino are better than Illustrator. Rhino only misses Illustrators line width tool and a simple fill option for 2D curves. Autodesk Sketchbook Designer 2011 was the best translation of Rhino‘s curve creation into an easy User Interface. You should have a look at it. Now here's a thought..
    What if you could convert a variable width line to an actual volume? That is, drawing it as a tapered shape, and then being able to expand that. For example, set the pen width to something nice and thick at the midpoint, and then use it to draw a curved shape that becomes something like a curving horn, or variable width piping for a surface?

    • @Rhinoceros3d
      @Rhinoceros3d  Před 2 lety +1

      Pipe tool will do that already- the nice thing is these curves are literally just normal curves with a thickness effect added. You can do anything to them you can with a a normal curve, including exporting them as vector lines.

    • @krzysztofmathews738
      @krzysztofmathews738 Před 2 lety

      @@Rhinoceros3d Absolutely true, that. I was thinking that the virtue of an immediate curve to volume conversion is that you immediately have the taper profile in play as opposed to the multi- step process of selecting the curve, using the pipe command, choosing the start, end and internal radius and then executing. To instead be able to make a half dozen pen strokes that could immediately convert to volumetric geometry would be a very nice workflow!

The idea of determining variable width profiles (like one does in illustrator brushes) and then being able to realize those as shapes in space as one draws. As an architect, My dream Rhino version would be one that would allow me to stay within rhino from 2D to final rendering. And I wouldn’t write that if it weren’t already super close to that.
    But still, 2D drawing lacks a little bit of seamlessness and user friendliness. Appearance and UI speaking.
    Cycles is almost there.
    I myself do not need photorealism, but in architecture, Lighting accuracy should matter more.
    Of course vRay does the trick, but It feels already a bit out of the rhino universe.

    Soon I won’t be needing any other tools if you keep going like this! Looking good!! Kyle, I assume you’re aware of ilovesketch, whatever happened to that. Well maybe that giant black hole happened to it. Anyway, that might be an inspiration

    rhino8 已经出来了 为什么没有这个功能

    • @Rhinoceros3d
      @Rhinoceros3d  Před 3 měsíci

      the tapered line function has changed a bit, and to be clear, This is more of a workflow than it is am actual feature.
      the tapered line style is part of the new linetypes additions, and the rest of the workflow is unchanged from the video (drawing and pen settings etc)

    ok, I gonna say it, one of my boss frustrations is that I do very well with both rhino and solidworks, but I cannot draw a thing by hand, he in the other side draws very well by hand, but cannot use the 3d modelling space at all
    What I can see here is, if it gets intuitive enough to use, that he can do the sketch, I can do the nurbs, he then can do the sketch over the nurbs to show what he wants to change, and we could speed up our design process by maybe, 40 to 50 % having this tool fully developed.
    so pleaaase, make it go farther, or if you drop the idea, let me know because I will learn to program just to turn this into a rhino plugin if I need it

      you could do that with these tools today- just need a tablet and a willingness to try some new ways of working-

    No sense to announce rhino 8 in videos like this and is not released yet. I want to purchase Rhino, but I am not going to do it and waste my money in Rhino7...

      We always have a long public beta where owners of the current version can use the wip and betas for free until they are released.
      If you buy v7 you can use v8 wip today for free until the public release if v8.

    Sorry but I don't like the concept of sketching in Rhino at all. I would prefer if the fancy lines were created autmatically as a setting in an artistic Display mode. Then I would like to be able to have some settings for the "imperfection" of the fancy line - but based on the "perfect" model that lies behind.

    Please improve subd modeling experience. It is very basic and cumbersome at the moment.

    Looks like a copy paste of blenders grease pencil

    • @Rhinoceros3d
      @Rhinoceros3d  Před 6 měsíci

      not quite, it's simply a tapered curve style added to a normal rhino curve, drawn with a tablet. The cool thing is you can do quick 3d sketch previz of your build, then use those exact curves to make surfaces if you so choose. Grease pencil has way more to it than this very early feature. Try it and let us know what needs to be added!
