    Nice work. It's all so subjective how you or anyone would paint a scene but these are some nice interpretations. I never really thought twice about how each stage is kinda washed out, guessing intentional, to help the player characters pop out more. Though even that I would imagine would change a bit based on platform, game version, etc. The one thing this mod takes away (not that its a bad thing) is my visual memory of the stage "color". Ibuki- gold, Elena-orange, Akuma - green, Hugo - green, Chun Li - yellow, etc. Its part of my memory of association with this character not unlike the movie Hero, with colors representing each character or faction of characters. Interesting what a little color balance can do. Keep it up!

    • @Gurimoe
      @Gurimoe  Před 3 lety +1

      [copypasta of my answer from someone else asking this]
      That'd be cool! Way above what I'm capable, of, though.
      I've seen a concept of this before (2I Dudley's stage in 3S), but I believe nothing came of it.
      On top of that you have to keep in mind most stages in 3S are of a different width - so translating a stage from NG or 2I to 3S would be problematic if the stages aren't exactly the same width, at least from a gameplay perspective.
      This also means for online play there'd probably be desyncs every time someone got near a corner (that's at a different distance for someone using the modded stages).
      So, in case online play is a factor in this, there probably is a lot to consider for something like that to be a possibility.
      If it's solely for offline play though, apparently this may be possible!

    Overall I think the changes are pretty outstanding, there is simply some really good color correcting in these. The only thing I would have left untouched would have been Sean and Oro's Stage since I thought they were pretty good as they are but overall it's not really something to complain about because it's still a job well done.
    Also Sean's "Nighttime" version of the stage reminds me of Spaghetti Westerns where people would just put a filter over the camera and say that it's nighttime, lol, love that kind of atmosphere

    Love these! I can see that you went for "More colors" overall, something I can really appreciate since 3s stages are pretty monochromatic. In my opinion, Ibuki, Elena and Makoto's stages received the best treatment :D Don't you think the stages in this game are way less ALIVE than the ones from NG and 2i ?
    Cheers!

    • @Gurimoe
      @Gurimoe  Před 3 lety +9

      Yes, my main goals were to remove the "colour-filter" / one colour often blasting out every other colour & hiding detail, and/or to increase overall stage vibrance, as well as tweak the brightness levels.
      In general I tried keeping the original intention of the stage's atmosphere / feeling close to the same.
      The way I sorted the stages is by "amount of change" how I perceive it - so I feel like Makoto is one of the least changed stages. I'm glad you still do like the changes I made to them, if you always paid attention to the parts I ended up changing for it the difference still can be a bunch I'm certain! Ibuki's stage got more of a complete overhaul though, so of course that's going to be way more - and Elena's stage received the player's ability to keep their eyesight (lol).
      And yes, I think the 2I, and especially NG stages (Ryu/Ken Onsen/village, Ibuki Ninja Village, Dudley rainy London, Oro cave, ...) were a lot prettier to look at. I feel like the reason we received the 3S stages is because of NG/2I having been received really poorly and Capcom deciding to change the game's look&feel to something completely new, so players going to the arcade would "see a new game" and not write it off as "another NG/2I".
      Having to make compeltely new assets for everything but characters (next to the characters they did end up adding, of course) surely didn't have the greatest budget/time, since it must have been more of a last-ditch effort to make a profit off of SF3, rather than have the work up to then end up in a game that performed really poorly.
      To make the stages differ more from the NG/2I counterparts, then, something like strong spot colours to grab your attention would make a lot of sense I believe.
      Of course, after 20 years getting some of the colours back would be neat (which is why I made this)

    • @ZEBASS
      @ZEBASS Před 3 lety +3

      @@Gurimoe Thanks a lot for the thoughtful response, I can't agree more with you, in every aspect you mention. That's probably the reason why they made the major music overhaul and general look and feel of the game. In a perfect world, for me at least, we would have NG and/or 2I stages, plus new stages in the same style for makoto, twelve, remy, chun and Q. And with their respective win/lose poses by Kinu Nishimura as in the previous games, lol. One can dream!

    • @Gurimoe
      @Gurimoe  Před 3 lety +7

      @@ZEBASS Honestly the literally best possible thing that could be theoretically possible is a "SF3 Edition Select".
      All SF3 stages (NG/2I/3S), the option to select all versions of characters (NG/2I/3S) and a possibly "4th" balance patch on top of it (the MikeZ changelist for instance is a pretty good start honestly).
      Then you could use that version to play NG, 2I, 3S or a newly balanced 4th, or mix/match characters if it somehow ends up being more balanced than without (say, 2I Hugo in 3S would probably have an easier time as a character without being straight-up overpowered than 3S Hugo is doing).
      It's not something we could ever expect from Capcom though, sadly, seeing how (imo) literally every port of SF3 runs worse offline(!) than the experience you're currently getting with FC2 even online.

    Great job i appreciate the hard work but I think you should have changed the coulors more profoundly example the Neon dragons in jun stage could be red so opposite colours alot of the changes are hard to notice.

    • @Gurimoe
      @Gurimoe  Před 3 lety

      The way the palettes work is that each pixel of the stage is assigned a value, which is taken from a limited amount of available colours it uses a reference - so if you change one part, it may also change another portion on the screen.
      The neon dragons glow for instance, and that glowing effect extends pretty far into the sky - if you change the dragons to be red, you may end up having to make the sky red, of the floor discoloured as well.
      So there's a lot of problems that can come up when trying to change some things, so I left it at that.
      I agree though, some stages didn't get much change (e.g. Dudley), but I wanted to only really change stuff where I felt the stage needed it, rather than changing things "for the sake of changing it"

    This is incredible! I can't believe how much less murky most of the stages are. It's my least favorite part of the game's design and you transformed it.
    I'd say that the grass on Gouki's stage looked a little better in the original, though. Your version (though well done!) makes it look very bright and lush, which both doesn't fit the mood of the stage and looks a little odd in a night setting.
    The cherry tree on Makoto's stage is a little iffy.
    Did you not include Remy's stage? I always thought it was the ugliest one (part of which you can't fix with this method because the cgi aged poorly). Edit: Saw your comments about this one.

    Requesting 2i stages in 3s

    • @Gurimoe
      @Gurimoe  Před 3 lety +1

      That'd be cool! Way above what I'm capable, of, though.
      I've seen a concept of this before (2I Dudley's stage in 3S), but think nothing came of it.

    Hey is there a mod to add widescreen from 2nd impact into 3rd Strike

    • @Gurimoe
      @Gurimoe  Před 3 lety +1

      Sorry, but that doesn't exist.
      AFAIK it isn't "good" in 2I either, since it actually changes how far apart characters can be and where the "corners" are on a stage (as in, when the stage scrolls to a side). This actually can affect game balance & meta.
      That said though again, no, only 2I had the (afaik experimental) widescreen support, and it didn't get carried over to any other CPS3 game.

      @@juanmiguelfontalvo Oh, cool! I didn't know someone made a romhack to get this to work.
      My point regarding game balance and such still stands, though.
      One easy example for 3S would be Makoto comboing into SA2 being only possible with her back near the edge of the screen, which of course is going to be less likely if the screen's edge can be a lot further away than normal.
      It is cool to see as a novelty factor nonetheless, of course.
