  • About this video: Beatrix was adopted at 8 months of age from the city shelter. She exhibited a lot of fearful behavior like cowering, barking and running away. This would happen in new environments, or with unfamiliar people. We wanted to be able to incorporate Beatrix into our daily activities but her fear made this impossible. Beatrix's training focused on building trust and confidence. As a result of the training we worked on together, Beatrix is now able to go everywhere.

I like seeing fearful behavior treated as something that is both fixable and worth fixing. Even (especially) in a little dog!

luxorien thank you! It always makes me sad when people don’t feel it’s worth the effort to help small dogs work through fear. - Alyssa

You truly have to embrace the process, but it's so worth it. Like the video shows, I love focusing on skill building that can help improve communication and confidence. It's also important to remember that if a dog ever seems overwhelmed and is not able to engage in training, the best thing we can do is make the training easier in some way, or remove them from the situation. Best wishes to you in your training! Best, Alyssa Rose

Actually I have one five pack in front of the house and 4 females in the back yard wich I am trying to train about a year. The four ones do the basic without no problem indoors or in the yard but each time that I go outside in down town at least two of'em lost totally the engaged with me even don't accept treats.

I like to look at training as a way of communicating, and that communication goes both ways. When dogs lose the ability to focus in training this is usually a strong indication that they are in over their head. I always ask myself is there is something that I can do to break the training down in some way, to make it easier for the dog to be successful. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment, it's appreciated. Best, Alyssa Rose
