That movie, in a very good way, resurrected memories and emotions that I had not felt for a very long time. I was a college student in Minnesota during the mid-70's. My girlfriend at the time lead me to Christ after she became a Christian. My life totally changed. I was set free from drugs, weed and alcohol. Now, I'm no longer in bondage for almost 50 years. I immediately started telling my buddies about Jesus. Some came to Christ others thought I was crazy. By God's grace I have hung in there with the Lord. The movie is true, we at that time looking for answers in all the wrong places. I am telling my kids if they want to understand me and the love and power of Christ, see the movie.

I haven't even seen Jesus Revolution yet but I'll check it out. AMEN brothers and sisters in Christ our Lord and God bless you ALL 🙏❤️👊. I really appreciate brother Jon McCray Whaddo You Meme's CZcams Apologetics ministry for the furtherance of The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. This has nothing and everything to do with the video but please listen if you want to otherwise leave it alone and ignore it. Hello my name is Justin and I'm a fellow Christian and Apologist but I'm also a college student. I'm not a closed minded Theist as I have nothing against Atheists or unbelievers as I speak to them often to understand their reasons for unbelief but we as Christians are convinced of God's Existence due to many real factors). I'm not trying to convert anyone or convince anyone to become Christians as that's The Holy Spirit's job to help people believe but only explain why I believe in Jesus Christ. There's actually evidence of God's Existence in Christianity. First of all there's proof that Jesus of Nazareth existed in history since the writings of Tacitus, Josephus Flavius, Pliny the younger and other historical documents prove that He was living two thousand years ago that even scholars both religious and Atheists agree with historically speaking but not that He's The Divine Son of God because obviously they don't.
I'm going to give you historical and archeological evidence for God's Existence as The Scriptures have prophecies that predate the events recorded in them by several millennia including Matthew, Hosea and Zechariah which prophesy accurately of the people of Israel becoming a nation again after over 1900 years of being scattered around the nations since the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem in 70 A.D. spoken of by Christ in Matthew 23:29-24:3 and returning to their homeland after The Holocaust with Jerusalem as their capital in 1948 exactly as Jesus The Christ said. The prophets including Daniel spoke of the time where several world empires would arise and fall including the Babylonian kingdom, Medes and Persians, Roman Empire, and Saladin and the Muslims which went in consecutive order for the past few millennia. The people of Israel becoming a nation after The Holocaust in 1948 (ironically the melting point of gold as God compares Israel to gold that's tested in fire in Zechariah 13:8 and Jeremiah 16:15) exactly how Jesus The Christ said would happen since God us everything to come in The Scriptures and not just because people were working towards as Atheists claim which are impossible for any regular man to predict.
Just before anyone says Christianity is a white man's religion made to oppress blacks during slavery you obviously aren't aware that the first Christians were Jews in The Middle East and that Christianity just like any religion can be used by evil and corrupt people to oppress others but you forget that the first Abolitionists/Civil Rights activists were Christians who sought to abolish slavery, racism, segregation, injustice and prejudice throughout American history. Jesus The Christ loves you enough not to give you what we all deserve which is God's Wrath by His Own Blood. Charles Darwin didn't originally come up with The Theory of Evolution over 200 years ago as it is mentioned in the writings of Ancient Greeks who believed in Demons that gave knowledge to philosophers.
Evolution makes no sense when nothing has evolved after thousands of years of human history and supposedly the first creature came from primordial sludge several millions of years
ago funny how they won't believe that God an Eternal Almighty Spirit Being created us from the Earth) which came from a supermassive expansion of matter at high temperature that inexplicably created everything in the known universe that supposedly came from nothing billions of years ago. How did the organs evolve before there were bones, skin, substance and how did any creatures see before eyes evolved? I've studied evolution and abiogenesis in the past and read Darwin's " Origin of The Species" and I'm not convinced of macro Evolutionary biology whereas I accept micro Evolution like speciation and adaptation but not macro Evolution because there's no evidence of it nor clear observable examples of it where living creatures evolve into other kinds of species plus the fact that fossils don't show evidence of evolution and genetic entropy rules out evolution. The question begs how did two genders evolve from a common ancestor with a perfectly hospitable and sustainable environment with breathable oxygen and resources to survive on inexplicably? Atheists have the burden of proof to explain how everything came to be and why our existence is possible without the Existence of God from an godless perspective just as Christians have to provide evidence of God's Existence and the validity of His Word.
Evolution requires life to already exist in order to take any effect in living organisms so it doesn't account for the existence of Life and reality. Also evolution is impossible because it goes against The Law of entropy and the second Law of thermodynamics because evolution makes things better whereas nothing continues to get better but decays and turns to absolute destruction in the end. Mark Ridley an Evolutionist said "No evolutionist whether gradualist or punctuationist uses the fossil record as evidence in favor of The Theory of Darwinian Evolution as opposed to special Creation". God's Existence is made perfectly known and observable in the universe as demonstrated in His Handiwork in the intelligently designed manner that Creation was made, human consciences and consciousness historical and archaeological evidence of God's Word being valid history, fulfillment of Bible Prophecies God in His Holiness and Righteousness could give us what we deserve in Hell for our since but He's merciful to give us free will to choose to accept or reject His gift of salvation by grace through faith in His Son Jesus. I don't mean this is any condescending manner but if you'd like to discuss The Scriptures with me or have me listen to your view on anything my instagram account is Savage Christian Kombatant.

I had been kind of a "hippie wannabe." I have now been walking with Jesus around 50 years and my life was totally transformed from what it was. I won't lie, I cried my way through that movie because I feel so far from the purity of joy and love for Jesus that I and other new believers experienced. The culture war, political polarization (in my own family as well), and fear of the results of our nation's fall away from God have taken my eyes off the glorious face of Jesus and have robbed me of my thankful heart for His grace and my joy in serving Him. I pray His Spirit is doing another big work like He did in the 1970s but no matter what happens, I will continue walking with Him until I see His face!

Thank you for sharing. When you mentioned feeling far from the people in the movie and their deep spiritual connection, the culture war etc- that stood out to me. It's exactly what I have suffered to more and more extremes the last decade.
I am an ostracized whistleblower of horrific abuse and corruption in my field of work as a youth mentor and generally in empowerment, liberation on similar themes of the people joining the Jesus Movement, but in a non religious context.
I've also lost many friends over the years to extreme Social Justice, which is a religion, not a political worldview. It is a Godless religion without connection to the spiritual realm; it is abusive to ALL who are subjected to it. Some of us are called oppressors, some are called oppressed. The ideologues try to force us into this caste system and keep us imprisoned there. They are extremely anti human and bigoted against white people and men. But in another sense bigoted against the "oppressed" groups.
When I saw Jesus Revolution I cried harder than in many years of my life. I told a therapist about what was profound in it and when I recalled the scene of Pastor Smith washing the hippies' feet I couldn't speak, i got so emotional. This is because that and multiple other scenes showed this real, deep human acceptance that was courageous and vulnerable. And seeing that I was shocked because I have witnessed and experienced such deep hostility, callous cruelty and severance in my home culture and life generally.
The revelations I'm having are making it so painfully clear how severed people are from the source of life, the spiritual realm, and each other. How isolated and locked up in their trauma people are. How many are seeking truth and liberation in lies and ideology that is fundamentally opposed to liberation. I am discovering my life's mission on this path to create refuge for ostracized people like the hippies, like myself and my friends. To create refuge for genuine connection and deep healing 🙏😇

@@elshaddai87 I have been going through the America is falling away from God thoughts rather than getting closer to the Lord also, and have lost much joy of the Lord because my focus was more on what is happening in the world rather than my relationship with God. Recently I been seeking the Lord more and getting closer to Him. Praise God.
I think, like many movements, revivals, and things like that for the Lord, will lead to some Christian conversions, as God will be where His word and ways are being spoken. Even if it isn't much more than basic doctrine.
But none recently have changed the course of the nation, as some did in the past. It changed the course of the nation, because it changed many people.
Recently, the revivals change some people with very little impact on the country.
There are false doctrines in the recent revivals, as well as truth, yet thank God, some get truly saved and go to godly churches.

The theme you talked about is the central one. However there is another one I feel is just as important. Greg Laurie touched on it during an interview about the movie. That theme is that God can and does use flawed people. No one in this movie is portrayed as perfect or even close to it and I'm glad. Having battled and beat an addiction because of the power of Christ I can personally attest to this theme. I am simply a sinner saved by grace.

I wrote many Christian songs and I remember the apprehension of the church body when I brought my beat up guitar into the sanctuary for Sunday morning service and sang and played. I wasn't a "hippie" per se, but to some members, anything other than an organ playing was "sacrilege". From there, others brought new songs and music to the church and it was eventually embraced by most. Even the "traditional" Christmas program had guitars playing "Silent Night". It was a wonderful time of development for myself and for the Christian faith in general.

@@justingary5322 : Very well put together. I agree with you on every point, which is rare and rather nice. I too see evidence of speciation and micro evolution (meaning adaptation), since we have so many species of each animal. The Ark clearly didn't carry two of each and every species, so they must have had their changes come from adaptations to their environment.
By the way, read the Book of Enoch, at least the beginning. Some parts are not accurate (for example, there really are no female angels - every last one of them would look clearly male). I found this out by enquiring of God directly. Therefore, it becomes clear that the text is not fully reliable. However, I sincerely believe (also based on direct inquiries of God) that there were angels that left their first estate and took physical forms in order to mate with human women (Genesis 6). The purpose of this was to corrupt human DNA, until our entire race was no longer made in God's image. Noah's genetics remained pure (Genesis 6:9 - BLAMELESS in his generations). I also believe that the Mark of the Beast will successfully accomplish this genetic corruption in all who take it. Why bother? I have a theory.
I believe that the enemy is attempting to create a 'pocket of evil' - a place where God will have no legal right to intervene. Dominion of this planet was handed to Man. What if every single human were altered to be completely under satan's utter and absolute control, inside and out? Those who refuse the Mark are exterminated. What if every voice on the entire planet declares satan as ruler and God is not to have any authority here? What would that accomplish spiritually? Would God have no more authority in His own Creation? Would God's own righteousness force Him to follow such dictates? I'm not entirely sure. But since the enemy does not have anywhere near the power to force God out by strength, he would have to do it by making it that God would have to violate His own righteousness in order to dethrone satan (and God will NEVER violate His own righteousness - EVER). This would create a "zone" where the enemy would be safe from the Lake of Fire Judgment. Since brute power has zero chance, I have to believe that the enemy's endgame has to do with legally being made safe from ever being brought to Judgment.
Why would he bother working so hard to corrupt this world, and even our genome, if it didn't profit him in some way? And what does he fear the most? I personally have felt demons flee when speaking Revelation 20:10 out loud JUST AS I WAS ABOUT TO SPEAK THE WORD "TORMENT". I consider this quite telling. There is terror in their ranks of that particular Judgment. However, I was in a fight once with a very powerful demon where that scripture did not seem to affect it at all. When I switched to using the Blood of Jesus against it there were definite results. I could feel it "screaming" in a sense, in the spirit. I have wondered about this, but I do not have revelation yet. The only thought I've had that might be from the Lord is that this powerful evil demon does not believe Revelation 20:10, and therefore it wasn't affecting it in a desired manner. Or perhaps I just couldn't sense it. Not sure. Anyways, my whole point is that this is a source of great fear for at least some of them, and the devil himself knows that Jesus is FAR more powerful than he is. Therefore I believe that the enemy must be trying to make it so that God will HAVE TO leave him alone. That's my theory so far. Just thought that I would share my thinking with you. Let me know if you have any thoughts on this. Peace and love brother.

Thank you for making this video. I hope and pray more folks will go to see this movie because of your review, which was brilliant. My Wife, Mother, and I saw this movie last Saturday Evening and I'm telling you there was not a dry eye in the house. I'm a 51-year old man and I walked out of there in tears. I have, in all honesty, looked at others, before, those who are dressed in a particular way, present a certain attitude, etc., and turned away from them rather than trying to talk with them about anything. Mainly, it's because I would get it wrong and end up shoving them away from me rather than enticing them to seek Jesus. There are reasons I am the way I am, I make no excuses, but beyond those I have had the opportunity to share Jesus with others, before, and have done so successfully. I am grateful for those times.
This movie was, indeed, brilliantly done, and the fella who plays Lonnie seems to be of nearly a Caviezel quality when it comes to playing Jesus.

We saw the movie tonight. So glad we did. I was indirectly influenced by the Jesus Movement when I went to college in Philly in 1975. Like someone else commented here, we didn’t really know this was a revival at the time. I had heard the gospel preached at my parent’s church when I was 14 but couldn’t really relate (their church reminded me of Pastor Chuck’s aging church in the beginning of the movie) but when the Youth Group leader formed a youth group, he was the closest thing to a hippy I had ever seen in person (tho I really don’t think he was- he was just way cool and super fun) and he made Christianity relevant for our age group. So I would describe myself as someone who had the trickle-down-blessings of the Jesus Freaks (as we called also ourselves as a way to identify with them). I am now 66 years old and still walking with Jesus. I’m grateful for this movie and how the gospel was presented in numerous ways throughout the movie. I also HIGHLY recommend The Chosen.

It just takes a spark, and even when we walk 10,000 steps away from God, it is only 1 step back to His open and loving arms. Praise God!

I lived through the Jesus Movement. It was probably more like millions that came to Christ. Our Presbyterian church wouldn't budge about our traditional morning service but our pastor then created an evening one for us young folks. I loved both. In our home church we had many 20 year Olds that had left drugs, alcohol, Mormonism and other cults. We started a band and toured. The gifts of the Spirit moved powerfully!. People got delivered repented, got baptised in our pool....it was awesome.

Later in life, I stumbled across recordings of Chuck Smith’s biblical teaching and the teaching of other pastors of Calvary Chapel church, including the Through the Word app. I wish I had assess to the teaching when I was younger but I am grateful that it is available now. This will be the first time this year that I plan on going to a movie theater.

Just saw the film this afternoon. Before I get into a point of discussion, for a TL;DR, I’m happy I saw it. I think it was very well made from both a film production and a Christian values standpoint (though I do wish there was a little more focus on the Lord Himself than on “the movement,” but I think I understand why they did things that way), and I would definitely recommend seeing and supporting it. It’s also so very encouraging seeing all the testimonies in this comments section!! 💛🙏 God bless all of you!!
As a believer who growing up was primarily in “traditional, conservative” churches and saw a lot of church disputes and splits, the conflict in the first half of the film with the friction between the hippies and the church members (or, more accurately, the friction from *only* the church members) made me squirm a little… but I think one of the best scenes in the film was when Pastor Chuck responded to the criticism of the barefoot hippies.
I don’t believe churches should necessarily change their usual form of worship and decorum for outsiders, be they fellow believers or the searching unbelievers. I’m not advocating any segregation in the Body of Christ, not remotely, but we do have different denominations for a reason. For instance, I worship in a way that sings passionately, but is otherwise very contained; I would not expect a vibrant Pentecostal church to change for me by toning down their exuberant worship. I believe the same courtesy should be extended to congregations who prefer traditional hymns and KJV Bibles, so that they are not pressured to “modernize” their services. If people want an “appealing” church, let them attend a more modern church. If they want a “reserved” church, let them attend a conservative church. Different forms of witness resonate with different hearts. As long as the Word is being preserved and the preaching is sound, let’s not force one another to worship in a way that constrains how we best commune with and glorify our Father, according to how the Spirit individually leads us.
That’s why I love Pastor Chuck’s response. While I empathize with any church-goer’s discomfort at having their entire church service overhauled with music they cannot connect to, and I don’t believe anyone would be so wrong in hesitating at that, they took it beyond their discomfort and decided that if the hippies’ worship didn’t match theirs, it was unholy. They threw the babies out with the bath water, so to say. When the complaint about the carpet getting dirtied with the hippies’ bare feet came into question, Pastor Chuck had a choice. He could have said, hey, it doesn’t matter, if that’s how they want to be, they should be allowed to do whatever they want and be as dirty as they want. However, he set a precedent by washing their feet instead. They were allowed to go barefoot as they pleased, but with the caveat that they also respected the cleanliness of God’s house. Beautiful! A perfect communion between “modern” and “traditional” sensibilities, showing Jesus’ love and humility in service to bring peace to the brethren. We have to show respect to one another. As long as Christ is lifted up and glorified, and things are done in an orderly manner, this is what matters in our congregations, whatever form we take.
“Let each be fully convinced in his own mind.” (Rom. 14:5) It’s too easy to harp on one another, but God has given us liberty within His Will.
I’m glad the film also subtly pointed out the importance of discernment (when the worship is more for the benefit of the people than for the glory of God) and primarily checking one’s own motives to be certain that our service for God is FOR GOD and not our own preferences. When He’s at the center, great movements like this take place. And, even when we falter and try to take center stage with our desires, He STILL works wonders to glorify Himself. How faithful is our great God! 🙌

I plan on seeing this film if possible!
I recently overheard a prominent (angry) pastor who was sharing his opinion about the Jesus movement and the film. What stood out was how he was saying that the Jesus movement did away with suits and ties and old hymn books. Hard for some to let go of tradition and embrace people where they're at in order to reach them for Christ. Many people have been turned away from Jesus because of this religiosity like Native Americans and other cultures but, that is changing praise be to God!

Not only did it feel real and raw, but it also allowed me to put myself in the shoes of those I tend to judge. School can be a particularly unfriendly environment, but this movie has inspired me to approach non-christians with love, rather than condemnation. It doesn’t gloss over the struggles that come with ministry, and truly allows the watcher to understand the side of beauty, as well as the sacrifice that comes with one’s walk with god.

After I got back from Nam , I found a group of young people who really were into Gods Word and the Truth as it is found in Jesus .I could go on and on but the point I would like to make is Chuck was just a small part of what started this movement .We saw it as the early rain of the Holy Spirit .

In the many Calvary Chapels I have attended, there is a shame from the pulpit(a cowardly fear) to call people out in their sin or even address the current demonic political structure that is sweeping the globe. They are even similar to the hippies in a lot of ways. The line Lonnie says in the movie "they are a generation that is searching for all the right things in all the wrong places" really hits hard when I think about it. The only problem is I have no idea how Christians could even begin to reach the lgbtq+ community, but I think that we should try harder to. Because, to quote another Lonnie line, "they are like sheep without a shepherd" and "our community has shut them out".

I personally wished there was more Chuck Smith in it. But I understand this isn’t supposed to be “the Calvary Chapel” movie. Chuck was a very important main character but much of the movie revolves around Greg Laurie and Lonnie (though I wouldn’t go so far as use word biopic). As a history nerd the period aspect I thought was done fairly well.

I got saved via Chuck smith and The Word for Today radio program and still attend a Calvary Chapel where I am, so I love how the Lord has used Chuck and the people whom Chuck inspired.

    Great Review and observations!
I accepted Christ in 1971 and was marvelously saved in Southern California but knew nothing about Lonnie.
I had family members along the entire west coast and when I traveled to visit them I met people who looked me in the eye and said that the Jesus movement originated at their church. They really meant it.
I observed a geographically wide outpouring of Grace.
Grace to come into His presence, get delivered and empowered to serve. Gifts manifesting even before much fruit had even matured (Whole other topic)
From what I’ve learned since Lonnie had a huge part of promoting that outpouring but the movement did not depend on him as some are saying.
Lastly I will say our church had the same circumstances as Pastor Chuck’s church where the hippies displaced a tithing congregation.
There were a few elderly people who stayed with us who recognized this as a move of God. The pastor would invite them up to give a word to the young people and everyone of them said the SAME thing which guides me to this day….
    Fasten your eyes on Jesus,
    Not on men,
    Not on self,
    Stay in the word,
    Love and obey Him,
    Abide.

How wonderful to hear your account of God's "presence, deliverance, and power to serve" falling on people in various locales, simultaneously! I love that many had the experience of "the Jesus Movement starting at their church." It has created in my mind's eye an image of the Holy Spirit of God falling on people up and down the California coast. How great would it be to have others retell their stories of the outpouring of the Spirit at that time. ✝

    • @YosemiteLee
      @YosemiteLee Před rokem

Thank you@@theresap3467 It was fun sharing my experience especially since I noticed this broad outpouring aspect was not part of many retellings of that time.
I was not part of the “name it and claim it” Faith movement but Holy Spirit directed me to pray specifically and persistently. That if I put His Kingdom first I could ask what I desired and be prepared for Yes, No or Wait a While.
I’m not perfect but I have persisted and seen and still do see miracles and the supernatural through my life.
With this thought in mind I’m passing a Torch to you Theresa.
You said that my report about statewide revival planted a picture in your mind’s eye and it would great to hear from others about their experiences. I agree.
More important than the past however is the present. If you’re interested, go to a quiet area and leave all distractions, your phone etc. behind.
Envision in your mind revival coming to your region..what would it look like? Widespread deliverances? Reconciliation? Testimonies from atheists? Healings, Visions? The Book of Acts reenacted near you? Apologies or reconnections? Or the opposite, forsaking relationships that will block growth in Christ?
Flesh out the details of what you imagine could happen and bring it before the Father in prayer. Ask Him to show you a few things you can do to facilitate revival in your home.
He will. This is how a mini revivals starts and triggers other fires.
A few people are fire starters. They may be weak and not very influential but that does not matter. All that matters is the size of their faith in a BIG FATHER.
The Torch I’m passing you is only this; to seek Him about these things and wait on Him and be willing to say yes when He leads you.
Father God thank you for Theresa’s heart and her desire to look deeper into the things of Heaven and the move of your Spirit.
I ask you to guide her into a unique revival that is tailored to her. Bless Her gifts, May she be touched with that flame from Heaven that lights not only her path, but inspires those around her.
If she believes she is too small or not qualified to usher in a move of your Spirit show her otherwise in your wild and wonderful ways!
      Surprise Her Lord.
      In Jesus name amen!

At the same time displayed multiple reminders of God's love and empathy towards His people. The way scripture and the Bible was a part of the film made me say Amen outloud during the movie multiple times. I walked out of there saying to myself that "if Jesus stays close to, calls on and loves the broken, then I never want to be fixed so I can remain near him and his presence at all times!". The applause of the audience after the film was epic. I loved this film and I am so glad my 13 year old asked if we could all watch it. We live in the OC so it was also neat to see areas we frequent: Balboa Island, Laguna, Newport, etc... To know we live in an area that birthed one of the biggest Christian revivals is a blessing. No wonder, it's considered one of the happiest places in the nation. There are so many Christian churches here... We are definitely going to check out Harvest's services. I bet praise and worship will be awesome. And I'm certain I will cry as soon as I step through the door as I did the movie. God is good and this film was such a blessing to my soul. I was a young girl during the Jesus movement and I have many memories of that time. It was actually the Jesus movement that made me leave my Lutheran Church and try to find God in other ways. I very much wanted my belief to help me navigate the world I was moving into as a teen, and was not finding that at all in the Lutheran church. In fact, the only thing I liked about that church was the hymns and singing. When I was around 14 or so, it was discovered that the married pastor of the church was having an affair with a married congregant. I was just old enough to know that was not representative of the whole church, but young enough to be so offended that for a time, I felt very weird and alone for being outside of the world, and outside of the church, too. I didn't want what the world wanted me to have. I wanted what Jesus was offering and didn't understand. Such a troubling time for me, that lasted well into my 20s. Finally came back to the church in my 40s and have been growing in faith ever since.

I understand the movie was about the Jesus Revolution, but maybe someone will do a movie of Lonnie's life based on the books written by Roger Sachs. So many do not know about his life and how the Lord uses sinners (there are many that fell from grace only to be restored unto God in the end in the Bible e.g. Samson) as was Lonnie, but he was a mighty instrument in the revolution and traveled the world leading thousands to Jesus. He was reconciled in the of his life and never stopped loving Jesus. I believe his story is for such a time as this for this present generation.

I was always a Christian most of my life but never had a “home church” until a friend took my brother and myself to Calvary Chapel Ft Lauderdale 25 years ago. You couldn’t go a week without hearing of Chuck Smith then it tapered off and I didn’t realize it until I saw the movie. It is a wonderful, uplifting film with several poignant moments. Moments that say we need another Jesus Movement or Revolution, more now than ever before. You can clearly see people are lost and looking for something but they don’t know what & since there isn’t anything/anyone like Chuck Smith maybe this movie will lead them to Jesus. It is well done and in such a way that maybe it will speak to the lost.

My husband and I went to see the movie last weekend. We love Kelsey Grammer and Jonathan Roumie. I didn’t know it was about Greg Laurie when I saw the trailer on TV. When I was a new Christian in the 79’s, I listened to Chuck Smith on the radio almost every day. I loved his down-to-earth teaching. I was also a member of the Vineyard movement, but had never heard the story of Lonnie Frisbee. Don’t miss this one! 8:33 8:33
