    To get DIY-good at paint correction I feel happens kinda quickly. But to get professional quality takes a lot of practice. My girlfriend made fun of me for buying a hood to practice on every week thru the winter, but it got me comfortable enough to work on my car in the summer.
    I also used this hood to practice repairing rock chips, deep scratches, etc. totally worth it to me!

    Back in my early days of car detail in the mid 1980's, I purchased a 1959 Impala from a "barn find" with faded clearcoat but an overall beautiful car. A friend told me about a product he started using called Liquid Glass. Well after I compounded the car with a Turtle Wax compound, I used LG (all by hand, not a machine) I brought that faded paint back to showroom condition. I used LG until late 1990's.

    Hi Pan, I use the Sonax for my paint correction and just change pad for more or less cut. Yvan says not to use air pressure on a foam pad. I will say in my experience I really like the Sonax but I did find as the bottle aged on my shelf when I was getting to the bottom of the bottle I did get some dusting. That was before I learned from Yvan to keep your pad not only clean as you teach but also damp. I was changing out pads instead to keep a clean pad and it was always dry. Live and learn as they say. Thank you again Pan for all that you do. I have learned so much thank to you.

      @@wichitpongarunruangchoke8507 Thank you for answering Danny's question. Yes a clean damp pad should be used on every new panel as you go. Wool pad for more cut, Typically yellow pad for medium cut and Red pad for polish light cut. Pan, Yvan, and Chelsea are my top 3 sources for the best teaching and information.

    My personal favorite is Carpro Essence. Similar cut and Finish to Reflect, but it's a good primer before a coating. Wipes off super easy. I use it with white Rupes finishing pad for jeweling, or step up to yellow polishing pad if I have minor marring. Rupes Yellow fine polish has a bit more cut. They have The Uno Pure Ultra Fine in their line, which I think is their finishing polish to pair with the white pads. Havent tried that one yet.

    @PanTheOrganizer i love this series! I have a question though.
    Do you have any video's or tips what to use to protect or seal motorcycle exhaust pipes and mufflers (not just the shiney chrome ones, since there are many kinds.) I'd love to know what your expertise would point us to. It's kind of difficult i think because the engine casing and pipes get hot, but i want to pretect them and apply some sealant to make maintenance washes easier.

    I’m a mobile detailer in Arizona and not only does it do well outside in direct sunlight, but it finishes amazingly on dark soft paints!

    Pan, thank you for this latest video. I always look forward to all your videos. I'm working with a brand new cars finish and was recommended to use Sonax 4/6 Perfect Finish with the Rupes fine yellow finishing pads for my paint correction and polish. I'll be using a Griots Garage 15mm machine polisher in the process. I'm looking for the ultimate in gloss and clarity for my car that's located in northern California that will also be garage kept and never exposed to the elements or harsh environments. Basically a garage queen taken to cars & Coffee and an occasional outdoor car show. Maybe even taken on overnight trips out to the coast once or twice a year.
    Is there a super high gloss polish I can use following the Sonax Perfect Finish that might increase the gloss and clarity offered by the perfect finish?

    Spoilt for choice, such good products around 👌. I like using Micro cut and it works well, last used it on a MX-5 in a dark blue and it finished the paint like glass, threw over some cancoat on and applicator block and suede rather then squirt into a microfiber. The level of beading and gloss was like it was dripping. 🎉

    Since I have begun my detailing passion, I have made many mistakes in polishing. I have a 5” and 3” Rupes in my arsenal and a SPTA micro for tighter areas. (Sorry Rupes, just couldn’t justify the cost for an ibrid nano) I have learned to polish and to cut with compounds. I have even tackled some watering sanding. Definitely not for the faint of heart. My pad selection is varied, but most of polishing is simply refining. Removing some “spider” defects (most environmental) and rubs and spotting. And there are just many choices. You really do have to do some experimenting. I use Rupes, CarPro and Menzarno. My plan is to try some new ones soon. Thanks for the video Pan. Learned some stuff and also confirmed some stuff. Till the next one.

    Hi Pan,
    Many thanks for putting out this video. When a ceramic protection is put on a vehicle and let's say it guards for 12 months, then only washes can be done until after the 12 months, correct?
    And once the 12 months are over, would the 2nd stage of polish be appropriate-- not both, correct?
    I have another question about foam and non foam pads. How much compound should be used on either? I know you said not enough compound/lubricant may damage the paint? And if you buy a brand new car, is it recommended to to all the stages of compounds plus paint protection (ceramic/graphine)? Many thanks for answering my somewhat logical questions. I know they may be too simple to answer.

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  Před 7 měsíci

      If you polish on a daily basis and always blownyour pads out, yes the forced air could potentially damage the cells in the foam.
      If you only polish a car or two a year, it’s of no concern.

    Question: what to do on fiberglass? Corvette in particular. Also fiberglass on newer cars front ends. Can't measure the paint with paint depth gauge. Essence is good as a primer before applying CQuartz UK 3.0 as they have chemical compatibility. Not sure I would recommend Essence before applying coatings from other brands.
      So if you are applying a coating from a different brand, yes Reflect is a better polish choice. After polishing, don’t forget to wipe the paint with an IPA or paint prep spray. Then you apply the coating.

    Hello Pan. Great video as always 👍 I have a question. If I'm not mistaken I believe I saw one of your videos about a polish that fies not require to remove before adding a wax, or coating. If there is a quality fine cut polish that allows me to put the wax on top, and acts as an adheiser please let me know.
    Thanks.

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  Před 7 měsíci

      I'm not sure I understand your question. What do you mean by "a polish that fies not require to remove before adding a wax, or coating" ???
      After polishing, you would do an IPA wipe before you apply a ceramic coating, to remove polishing oils and residue, and allow for a proper bond of the coating. Unless you use a polish primer (like CarPro Essence or Gyeon Primer) before you apply their compatible coatings on top (CarPro CQuartz UK 3.0 or Gyeon Mohs for example). But that's a completely different discussion, and we'll talk about that in the upcoming video on all-in-one polishes.
      If your only goal is to apply a regular wax or paint sealant after you are done polishing, then it's not as important to do the IPA step. You could simply decide to apply the wax or paint sealant, as those only last a few months at best. They aren't designed for multi-year durability.

    Hi Pan, I have a 2024 Hyundai Tucson and wanted to apply a ceramic coating so I was wondering if you would still recommend polishing before applying ceramic coating since it's brand new and if so what brand would you recommend if I don't have a machine and plan on polishing by hand.

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  Před 6 měsíci +1

      It's not a question or recommending to polish or not. The issue is more with the fact that most dealerships apply some cheap wax or sealant prior to delivery, and the only way to ensure 100% removal of any previous protection is by machine polishing.
      And to apply a coating, it's crucial that the surface is fully prepped, decontaminated, and free of any previous protection. That's why we normally polish a new car, as yes it can have defects even brand new, but mainly to ensure 100% clean virgin clear coat.
      A new car is never new until it's properly detailed.
      - at the factory, the paint defects are often corrected quickly by rotary polishing which can leave marks and holograms, so polishing corrects those, before you lock that in long term with a ceramic coating for example.
      - vehicles are then transported by truck, train and boat so they are exposed to the elements, industrial fallout, brake dust, rail dust, etc
      - vehicles are often left at boat docks (when transported by boat) or in exterior parking lots for weeks or months, again being exposed to the elements
      - at the dealership, the vehicles are almost always poorly prepped using the same dirty water that was used for all the cars on a given day, and poor washing and drying methods leading to swirls and scratches
      - at the dealership, a layer of cheap wax or paint sealant is usually applied to attempt to make the paint glossy prior to delivery. It's crucial to remove any previous protection before you apply a ceramic coating, as coatings need to bond directly to a virgin clear coat.
      If you only plan on applying a regular carnauba wax or paint sealant though, you could decide to skip machine polishing, as those protectants can be applied over existing protection and it's not as crucial to prep the paint as well.
      I explain all of this in this popular video: czcams.com/video/QgoyrC-5CMc/video.html
      So you can better visualize the new car prep process, here are the steps I perform on a brand new car for my customers:

      @PanTheOrganizer  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Thanks Randy, happy new year to you as well. Polishing the touch-ups most likely won't remove that, unless you polish to a point where you'll make all the paint fail which you don't want. It's not a simple solution in your case unfortunately, and certainly not one that can be troubleshooted virtually without seeing the car.
      And it's beyond detailing at this point, it's more body shop /paint shop related. Your best bet would go to see a paint shot and ask their expert opinion. My impression based on what you are describing is only a full panel respray will solve this.

    The skill gap in being a high skill paint corrector is mind boggling. You watch a video of someone using a DA and say, Oh that's it? That looks easy. There is a huge gap between beginner and expert in this. There is so many variables and tricks and feel etc etc. It's absolutely not easy. The act of moving a polisher may be, but getting results and a beautiful vehicle isn't. It takes practice. Unfortunately most people don't have endless paint to learn on. I started with my own and then offered to do my wifes, family and friends. Still not an expert but there is no question trial, error and practice is needed. There is a reason a legit company is going to charge you $1000 to $3000 for a quality paint correction. You're not paying for the $80 worth of pads and polish. You're paying for the skill that 99 percent of people don't have.

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  Před 7 měsíci +12

      Well said. It takes time and practice to become great at polishing and yes hopefully when people watch my videos and other detailing channel videos they can appreciate just how much hard work goes into detailing vehicles at a high level.

      Other great paint preps are these: Gyeon Prep, DIY Detail Paint Prep, and the new Phoenix EOD Peleus Panel Prep.
      If you want to make your own IPA solution, I have a simple tutorial here: czcams.com/video/OLqSdQtoND4/video.htmlsi=fdVSreIu8SxO0PqQ

    Hey Pan! Thank you for making this a mini series. I've been hoping for this for a few months haha.
    I went by a Ford dealership yesterday man. I spoke with a gentleman that works in the body shop. He's been there for 13 years. He said of the 3 types of paint hardness, mine is in the middle. What compounds and polishes are your favorite for moderate paint, sir?

      It's impossible to say, as that also depends on the level of desired paint correction. Those are questions nobody can really answer without doing panel tests. As if I say use this, and it doesn't work for you, then you'll be left wondering haha.
      Paint correction is another beast of a topic. It requires time, practice, and panel tests to figure out the proper compound/polish and pad combo for your specific paint, specific level of defects and desired outcome. No two people have identical situations. I hope you can appreciate that.
      But certainly, a good starting point would be trying any of the compounds and polishes and pads in this series of videos, they are all top quality, and will get the job done for sure. It's fine tuning and getting higher up in the correction level that requires the testing.

      @@PanTheOrganizer I understand Pan. I'm just trying to be budget friendly with trying to find something suitable. But like you said, you'll never really know which is the best assortment until you try several. Paint correction is definitely a big variable 😅
      But I will take your advice and choose one from this series. I'll stick with the same brand for pads, compound, and polish for the sake of streamlining. If I can hit 85 - 90% correction, I'll be satisfied.
