I love how Guillermo del Toro showed a lot of supporting staff prominently in the introduction of Gipsy Danger. There are engineers, technicians, even traffic controllers to help gearing up the giant robots. It really showed not only the heroes, but also the total of the human efforts in fighting Kaiju.

4:20 this is how you make the actors look like they're controling a giant robot, don't just put random holograms in there faces and call it a day, *uprising*
Pacific Rim: The Pilots move with heft and force, accurately matching the effects of the skyscraper sized behemoth they are controlling.
Uprising: Just have them jog like they're on a treadmill, so the Pilots are taking six strides for every one the Jaeger makes, that won't break immersion.
Glad that The Black fixed this and brought back having to lift the Jaeger machinery to move it.
Well uprising in 2035 but I don't expect levitate holo dat time

I can honestly say Del Toro nailed most of the Mecha tropes especially the introduction to the robot
+goldosprey Word is, some of the grand-daddies of mecha anime gave him props for this!
+Tsurf The mecha anime inspired him to make this movie.
+Andrew Paul Power Rangers, Godzilla n his mechanic counterpart inspired him.
+BelpherithStudios There's certainly many aspects of those in Pacific Rim, but there's a lot of inspiration from the giant robot genre of anime in japan, as well. The head cockpit that connects to the body, the rocket-powered punch, the hidden upgrade of the sword... Most tellingly, the final attack used in the movie was Gypsy Danger using its nuclear turbine engine to burn a hole through the final kaiju - a clear reference to the signature attack of the first ever piloted giant robot in japanese fiction, Mazinger Z, who used a heatray fired from its chest to finish off most of the monsters of the week.

Part of why I love Evangelion, Gundam and all the usual Mecha stuff so much is watching the background workers in operation. Like Eva, they take the time to show you the scale of the production facilities, the endless miles of tracks they use to haul all the gear, ammo and whatnot all working together to support each other. Its mesmerizing from a logistics standpoint

Yeah. Not being able to watched this on theather are still my biggest regret
As a 40k fan, I love the idea of the neural interface being the only way to pilot a Jaeger. I also wondered what would be the mental side effects of it. You’d almost crave being in that thing as opposed to your normal human existence. Why be a human, when you can trot around in a massive 250ft war machine.
Now that you say that I wish they explored that concept a little further.
Planetary war machine no? lol really amazing the neural idea
A couple side effects described in the novelisation of the movie are as follows:
1. It was described that sometimes when the pilots are asleep, the jaeger may twitch slightly as if still connected.
2. The brothers were described not only being able to finish each other’s sentences but when they played chess, they were able to play for hours without getting a checkmate.
@@dantrinh100 where can i read this novel
Heresy!
You can feel the weight of each move the Jaeger makes THAT is what made this movie for me
Also the synced movement of the two pilots makes the weight feels legit.
@@RealNameNeverUsed in the other one they were running like if they were going fast af, completely out of sync with the jeager xD
only problem is that the canon weight of gypsy danger is only 1950 tons which is super fucking light for its size. just for comparison the ship (bunker tanker) that gypsy used like a bat weighs about 500 to 1000 tons.
I just have to say, this very scene is one of the best experiences I had in a movie theater. The soundtrack, the gearing up from the small things to the gigantic Jaeger, and feeling the colossal presence of Gypsy Danger in that movie screen... That simply just hit my mecha nerd G spot
Its not being nerdy, this movie is completely badaas
ikr right, wish have the same experience with PR2, but sadly no...
To this day I'm sad I missed the chance to watch this back in cinemas. The woes of being a broke teenager with no allowance.
I also wanted so bad to have watched this movie in theaters... I have this feeling every single time I'm watching it! :(
Sure that it was an incredible experience!
Also they use the colors but being most day scenes does not have the same impact and the jaegers look more fake, and adding the weightless feeling makes everything even worst, looks trending by the way due respawn doing the same with the titans in titanfall 2

Pacific Rim Uprising kinda lost its charms. Especially it's music. Pacific Rim (2013) is more interesting and puts viewers in more perspective. Gipsy Danger is more cooler.
I like Gipsy Avenger more, More slimmer and stream lined, I don’t really like how Gipsy Dangers Head is almost pushed inside it’s chest lol... But this my opinion.

Actually taller than 300 ft, because if i remember correctly they used a big cargo ship as a baseball bat of some sort, and the ship was like half of the jaeger, and i dont think cargo ships are only 50 meters so i guess they're like 400m tall.

Its amazing the way the designers shaped this film, they somehow managed to give every Jaeger this sense of "feasibility", sure the laws of physics wont allow the to ever be built but they have this sense of being somehow, realistically possible. Plus they have this great sense of combination between bleeding edge scifi tech, but with the rugged battle-scared quality of well used WW2 era bombers.
It's the weight: this movie got the giant mech weight right, making movement relatively slow so you get the feeling of a locomoting fighting skyscrapper. In effect, action scenes aren't as "flashy" as other robot films, which in turn makes it unique and, in my opinion, much, MUCH better. In contrast, the Transformer movies and that god awful Pacific Rim 2 sacrificed that for "dynamism".
@@JohnMatayas Yah pacific rim need a PREQUEL Not a sequel

in fact it is possible to build something like this, it would be even easier than a 400m building, made of metal, the support would not be a problem, already having something that can move a jeager would be extremely dificult

For all the visually striking, iconic shots in this film, the simplicity of Gipsy Danger walking into the waves with the delivery of the "but when you're in a Jaeger..." line remains my favorite. People dismiss the movie as just "punching monsters" but that line and that shot really capture the themes of teamwork and perseverance in the face of impossible odds.

I wish I could watch this movie again for the first time. It was a nearly overwhelming in the cinema, back in 2013, when I first watched this scene, with the soundtrack booming through the hall. Epic!
***** Oh, the sequel... they say everything will be different, and delToro was even grounded from the project! Sadly, I don't have too much faith in it. What if there aren't even Jaeger vs Kaiju fights anymore???
***** I've never watched the Daredevil-show, but since I'm told it's really good... well, okay, maybe the sequel WILL be good. And I know there will be fights, but will there be those Jaeger-Kaiju-battles, like from the first movie?
One of my biggest regrets: not going to see this in the cinema. Only saw it on TV a year later
Now with the perspective of time this movie has became a "you should had seen it on cinema" but back then in 2013 I was unaware, thank God I have good friends who told me that I had to see it. Fantastic experience!
Lucía MR Mota Yeah, I had never thought it would be so good. I went to watch it with some friends, just because it seemed cool in the trailer. I was expecting nothing but a vague, simple, straight forward storyline with awesome action scenes... and god, was I mistaken! The action scenes WERE awesome, but they weren't the core of this movie, other than expected, and the story was pretty damn good, too!
Still can't believe this was snubbed for Best Visual Effects at the 2013 Oscars.
A masterclass in film direction to show scale. It's surprisingly hard to properly convey on screen how MASSIVE everything is, but every shot has something from real world that we can reference for size; the workers who look like ants, the helicopters the size of flies, the human eyeline camera perspective looking upwards at the jaeger...just great cinematography
I think this is what the second film was missing. The clanking of metal, interlocking of parts, the whirring of mechanical machines. Sure the Jaegars looked cool with a more sleeker design and better handling, but there’s just something more satisfying when you see how these Jaegars move and prepared. You can feel the mechanical bulkiness of these machine and just feel how immense they are.
As well as the Human element. The work banter between characters not in the main cast, the engineers, the technicians, the sheer amount of Human effort it takes to move a machine that couldn't possibly exist.
We don't talk about that knockoff piece of shit
When you're in a Jaeger, suddenly...you can fight the hurricane. You can win.
My hair was standing and now it’s standing again! Hats off to Guillermo!

Guillermo del Toro just give us the best Big Robot and Kaiju fighting movie and left with no sequel, I repeat "No Sequel".
The way Gipsy Danger walks through the hurricane is God-like
I think its interesting how their jeager tech seems much more antique, they have to hold those circular disks which look like old technology( kind of looks like a record) vs. the new technology in gypsy years later which is just a colorful hologram. very cool details! PLUS for anyone who doesn't notice how the 3 plasma blasts here are powerful enough to knock the kiju all the way back, and later when gypsy is fighting leatherback (gorilla one) he has to empty the entire clip to even phase him, and its never powerful enough to blast him backwards either. they show the progression of strength evolving in the kiju's!!!
nukka200 even the hydraulics on pilots legs looks antique, not until on Uprising it was changed to Digital.(maybe to keep pilot safe from moving gears and hydraulics)

^😂
Toilet: Here we go.
Lmao 😂
I may be late but this is the funniest shit I've seen ever.
the best damn SFX I've ever seen in any movie...Thank you Guillermo for making this awesomely entertaining movie
One thing I noticed now that I never saw before was how worn and scuffed up the suits are, really shows how long these guys have been fighting the kaiju
Guillermo del Toro is a freaking legendary director.
On an IMAX 3D screen, this was my shit! I was bouncing and smiling throughout the whole film at this point!
XenoKaiju Hola titán Hola película de Titanes Lo siento de tu hermana qué se murió pero lo siento pero lo siento
Love how they use almost the entire Main Theme to introduce Gipsy and, somewhat, the movie.
I remember watching this as a kid, one of my favorite movies ever, amazing. Masterpiece
How 9 year-old mfs feel after they finish building a lego mech:
Srsly ... the creators of this cgi made a fantastic job. Everything cries "Im a fucking 7k tons 290 feet tall kaiju ass kicking full metall monster titan!"
such a badass movie
I remember the first time i watched this movie, when that music dropped I had literal goosebumps, it felt so epic
Gipsy danger head is like a key for activating Nuclear reactor in Gipsy main body... I like it :D
One of the best movies of Guillermo del Toro
This movie makes transformers childs play.
I went to see this by myself since no one could go. But it was a good thing because I geeked out so hard from beginning to end with this movie. My inner 9 year old self was floored with everything they threw at us. This is one of those movies I can keep watching over and over and still get goosebumps. Loved this movie!
............Yeah! Everything you said..😃
Right on down to the went-to-see-it-alone part.
Great comment!
Walking in the pool was never the same after this
