  • We have discussed it.... and we'll discuss it again. Yes Ladies and gentles.... The Mora Garberg. The knife everyone should have and the knife we always recommend to people that want to start bushcrafting or want a knife on a budget. Carefree, easy to sharpen, decent (14C28N) steel, indestructible, comfortable handle... this knife has it all!

    Thanks for making this video. Because of you and a few others, bought one and it came in tonight.
    Mine was not sharp out the box, but I 🤣🤣🤣 I used my belt to strop it and it did cut paper after the stropping.
    I also bought the bps last month because of you.
    I have the best of all worlds.
    Thank you from San Diego

    I've owned both the Garberg & Terava Puukko 110. I still own a Garberg & gifted away the Terava. It was a decent knife, but the handle shape was uncomfortable for me. I also thought it was somewhat short. I bought it as a winter blade but it was not very good with large gloves on. The Garberg has been nothing but stellar, although I do carry a small folder for food prep & fine carving. Until now, my favourite Mora was the Bushcraft Force. The Garberg has replaced it, in all seasons. I lucked out & got it for CDN$70. At that price, I ended up getting a few of them.

    I like this knife a lot, and it has another perk: it's pretty good for instinctive knife throwing ( no spin throw) since it's slightly heavier on the grip.

    Love my Garberg and would like to modify a Mora #2 to be an "Eldris", but other than the full tang and the nicer grip and the beautiful sheath, I can't see it doing much more than my Companion HD Carbon better, except for safe battoning (which I really don't do anyway).

    I've tried this vs. the Terava Jakuripuuko 110, and while the Terava is certainly great, mine seemed to have inconsistent heat treat compared to what most people were having. The spine went soft pretty quickly. Sure I could have refiled it, but I had the Garberg already and it did the same tasks and slightly better.

    • @TheKimjoh560
      @TheKimjoh560 Před 6 lety +2

      Is it unlikely to be differentially heat treated to be softer around the spine? Knives are sometimes treated this way to be tougher. TOPS do this alot to thier knives.

    • @AutismFamilyChannel
      @AutismFamilyChannel Před 6 lety

      TheKimjoh560 : I thought about that too, but other people told me their 110's spines stayed sharp, and others said no, they are soft to begin with...so I'm not entirely sure.

    Hello good, a question. When sharpening the Garberg you do it according to the scandi angle or you do it by the microbevel that comes from the factory. Thank you!!

    • @antaress8128
      @antaress8128 Před rokem

      Hey. If you do it according to the scandi, you will need to completely remove the micro bevel to sharpen it. If you do it by the micro bevel, you are basically going to destroy the scandi grind with time and if you later decide to do scandi sharpen, you will need to remove a lot more material to get the true scandi back. With that said I would do it according to the scandi and then put smaller micro bevel than the way it came from factory by stropping.

    Haha Great video guys. One question, with the Garberg Carbon steel version coming out this year 2018, do you think you fellas will still prefer this Sandvick 14c28n version having knowledge of Moras carbon steel?
    Personally I think their stainless has better edge retention and other benefits but only sacrifices the ability to light a fire from a flint strike on the spine. So Im still leaning towards purchasing this model. What are your thoughts?

    As far as I can see you've given a scandivex finish to your Mora Garberg. I would like to do the same, but I don't know how to change mine into a scandivex and I don't want to ruin my blade ('cause I'm pretty new to sharpening stones). Do you have some tips to share? I've already seen some of your sharpening videos, but in none of that (as far as I can remember) you explain how to change a scandi into a semi-convex.

    All right, this was just the dumbest DBK video ever.
    Everyone knows that if Maarten collided with a tree, the tree would fall down, not Maarten. He's like a Dutch Chuck Norris. Dutch Norris. When he does pushups, he doesn't push himself up, he pushes the Netherlands down.
    When Mikkie collides with a tree, that's when Maarten falls down. From laughter.
    Und, ja... the Garberg is an awesome knife for the money. More robust than the Robust. More basic than the Basic. Better for bushcraft than the Bushcraft. A better fire knife than the FireKnife. A better companion than the Companion. Heavier duty than the Companion Heavy Duty.

      Beautiful knife. Crown jewel of my Mora collection. Sucky retention in the sheath. Sucky. Gotta use the retaining strap, only... you can't use the retaining strap unless you also use the Molle mount, which I don't like. Guess I'll have to get medieval on it's ass and make my own combo belt loop/retaining strap.
