- While out in the West Texas desert, we put the Morakniv Garberg carbon steel blade by making a one-stick fire, striking flint of it to start the fire, process a kangaroo rat to cook, and break down a yucca root to make soap!

Holy crap this was the best knife review I’ve ever seen and I’m only half way through. 🤙🏼
Glad you enjoyed it! Be sure to watch our knife review playlist! You’re gonna love it
Man I love your reviews. You are one of the best youtubers that I know about. I would easily say top three. I have never seen a review that you didn't actually test a blade. Any other back yard tester needs to watch your channel and see how it is done. They need to up their game. I don't even want a blanking garberg and ill go by one just watching your video. My favorite mora is the eldris. She lives in my edc backpack. not a full size fixed blade but, the eldris is a great little multipurpose camp knife
Joshua Caviness I want to get a Mora Eldris as well. In blue :)
I appreciate the kind words my friend! We try very hard to not only test a knife but take the viewer on an adventure with us
My first view and this gets My Sub , Great Review !
It's good to a knife review not filmed in the backyard but some place that seems wild
Cuervo rocks!
Looks like my back yard.
Dude for real ! Makes it so that your actually using it in a real world application! Makes it more badazz haha
Immediately noticed the difference in audio quality, your efforts to improve don't go unnoticed sir.
Honestly. Haha.
Glad you enjoyed it brother!
LOL! "spices" at 9:12. You're a Rock Star, Dude. Cool Western Boots and Spurs.
Just got my second Mora Garberg in carbon steel. I cannot find one imperfection on this knife. I like how this knife is not painted, it is blued. Well guys and gals, I'm hooked on Mora.
I have the carbon and stainless versions. They are both great. As an aside, I had a problem with the rivet on the belt loop of the leather sheath snapping and Mora replaced it within a couple of weeks. Best customer service I've ever experienced.
Great to see another video! Great review of a great product! Thanks for sharing and stay blessed!
Such a great review, I've been meaning to pick up a Garberg in carbon. I love my SS version. Take care Wade
I absolutely love this video! I love how you processed the animal, it’s very helpful when we catch small game in the field and need to skin and cook it. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
My personal favorite: Bushcraft Black
Buckeye Bushcrafter different knive but yes
Best knife from mora
I respect your opinion but I actually actually think the90 degree pommel is a huge plus to the knife's utility and functionality.nd back up the glass ect and you can strike a ferro rod without having to take the knife out of the sheath.vlove the bushcraft black but I have to disagree about the pommel being useless. It's great for scraping bark, crushing nuts, can break glass oI h
What a great video 👍
What an information-rich video, beautifully shot and soundtracked! This vid both features the versatility of the Garberg as well as teaches us how to apply it in a bushcraft / survival situation - wow. Plus your presentation is smooth and concise, inviting us to keep watching for more! Thanks. New sub.
awesome im glad you enjoyed it! heres a recent video i think youd enjoy czcams.com/video/9oMrbIU7qXk/video.html
Excellent review in the market for a new knife was looking at moras thanks for sharing
Its on my list, thanks for the review👍
Love my Kansbol. Very versatile knife.
My favorite mora is the Kansbol! Shown to me by yourself 👍 Happy Holidays, James! ⛄
That's a tough question to answer. Of a dozen Moras I like my light my Fire, I like my Eldris...I think my favourite will be the garberg...even though I'm waiting for it to be delivered
i still say the kansbol is the best, although the original companion is a classic
Hand down the best garberg review so far! A great video as always.
Thank you for watching! Glad you enjoyed it, be sure to check out our knife review playlist!
Excellent review and demonstration.
Loved ur video, getting my Garberg (carbon) in the mail in a couple of days. You did a good job with video, thanks :)
I’ve owned several lower end moras they are good knives. I really like that new sheath kinda looks frontierish. I prefer the carbon knives I have had they do discolor but with some care they stay fairly nice and take great edges. I trust them so much I gave one of mine to my wife and the other to my son for our hiking camping adventures. I now find myself without a mora again. I’ll probably pick up another one with the Ferro Rod in the handle as a back up knife, though I like the garberg it’s a little pricey and I’m just starting to really get into hiking and camping and still have a lot to buy. Thanks for the great vid ! I learn something every time I watch.
All moras are great! You don’t have to get an expensive one, a simple companion runs about 15 bucks. My top favorite knife of all time is the kora Kansbol, 30 bucks! I actually prefer that knife over my fancy 200 dollar customs ones.
Good job, James.
Excellent knife the looks is very appealing for me .
that was awesome! I learned something...
Excellent.
Excellent review. I just received my first Mora Garberg a few days ago and all I can say is it is epic. Now I'm going to order the carbon version...
Enjoy!
Another great and informative video! Really enjoy watching, keep up the great work guys.
Thanks for watching! Have a merry Christmas!
Good timing brother, just ordered one of these for a fishing trip and intend to use it as an every "holiday" carry.......thanks James
Nice! It’s an astounding blade
Great job on the demonstration and review
Glad you enjoyed it, brother!
I love my Mora Companion, I bought the carbon steel version but I did a patina job on mine to reduce the rust issue. I also did some modifications on my sheath, wrapped it in paracord and attached a ferro rod with magnesium to it as well.
You can’t go wrong with a mora. Man I think I have like 9 at this point
Junkyard Fox they’re addicting 😂
Very well done. Thanks
I like how you kept a straight face as you pro-offered the mouse. You know the faces so many of us made when you did that! How else can it be? Have a wonderful holiday and many, many more!!!
Lol it’s not too bad, the salt and pepper work wonders, I’ve definitely eaten worse out here lol merry Christmas, brother!
Amen.@@JunkyardFox
Seeing you asked; my 2 favorite Mora's; the Garberg and the Light My Fire (in that order). The Garberg as my belt knife (stainless and leather sheeth) and the Light My Fire as my neckknife.
Great review..
James your videos are always a pleasure 🙌🏾👍👏
Like they season with the tears of a hard life!😂 Great test and review! My favorite to date is my bushcraft carbon.
Really good review of the carbon garberg. I haven't come across any mora knife I don't like. I keep one in every pack I've got. Best value out there. Thanks for sharing James and cuervo.
Likewise! I think I own like 11 moras now
What a charming review... flint & steel, food prep, natural soap.
So different from the world I live in (Swiss suburbia)
Well Done! ( My favorite Mora is the 'light my fire', I do own a Garberg stainless)
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it
One of the most interesting knife reviews i have ever seen.
Well done! Thanks James.
glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!
Great review told us all we need to know about this knife
Thanks for watching!
Great review bro! I love the garberg! I have the first version may someday nab the carbon. My fav mora oddly enough is the 511
Nice review, looks like you have alot of fun making your videos which makes it so much better for viewing!

Nice job. Thanks for taking the time to make this video. All the best to you. -Stephen, Ohio
Glad you like our stuff! I actually purchased my bushcraft black over in Ohio a few years back
I love your videos. When you review something, you actually put it to the test. I'm a new subscriber but I love every video I've seen so far.
Glad you like our stuff, be sure to check out our knife review playlist
James, thanks for the review, that's one knife I'll be putting in my collection soon, breakfast looked good also, I'll have to try out the soap someday down the road, have a wonderful week. God bless you always. 🇺🇸
Thanks for watching Scott! Merry Christmas!
Very cool info. Thanks!
Very nice video ! I am very impressed with your skills & respect for nature. All respect & thank u for sharing your knowledge.
thank you i appreciate it!
Very well done video. Thanks.
Total awesome review. . .
Glad you enjoyed it!
I remember watching the Video about the regular Mora Garberg. That was about a year ago. I really enjoyed it and decided to get one. I really really like my stainless Garberg. I also got it with the leather sheath. :) I'm so happy with this knife that I'll get more of them and put them in different places (planned for a point in time in the that is around 3 years away). 1 in trunk of the car and one in the driver door. (In my Country I'm not allowed to carry the onehanded Victorinox RescueTool. So I have to get the twohanded version of it and a Garberg for onehanded access. (Onhanded locking is not okay but fixed is)). 1 in a Bug-Out-Bag and 1 spare :)
I actually prefer the stainless model just because it’s more resistant to the elements
Junkyard Fox Same is true for me ;)
Great video man, always love to see game processing in your videos keep it up
Very impressive video! Mora makes excellent knives for many years.
My favorite knife, along with my SAK ranger works well here in NM
Beautiful and useful knife
Just finished watching your video and I am going to say the stainless steel garberg that I selected is my favorite mora. I looked on Amazon and found it for $65. The carbon steel garberg went for $99. I live in Michigan and we have high humidity here, stainless steel was cheaper and will probably last longer. I carry the mora with me daily John
yeah both garbergs are great but i prefer the stainless
Good review with actual use showed, nice job.
Glad you enjoyed itbe sure to check out our knife review playlist, we always put knives to work and show skills czcams.com/play/PL_jSMueMy8etsY1HbaCMRCNENsVdYpic3.html
@@JunkyardFox nice, I will
Love your videos. You do some great work and have an inviting personality. Thanks for the education!😁
Thanks for watching!
awsome video..
good job
Well done review as usual! God bless n Merry Christmas
Glad you enjoyed it! I appreciate your love and support, brother!
The only Mora I own (or have used for that matter) is the Light My Fire version, which has been excellent.
Top shelf video, i love seeing use!
Glad you enjoyed it! Be sure to watch our knife reviews playlist!
Just got my first Mora. Chose the Garberg carbon steel. I like the leather sheath too. I got the composite sheath because I wanted to add the survival attachment for the ferro rod and sharpener.
Great review !
thank you for watching
I always like your real world reviews
I’ve really enjoyed your video! You seem like a man with experience!
Not a snob when you can process a desert rat ish rodent! Love your soap and sparks too!
You had my subscription immediately after I heard "cooking a kangaroo rat for breakfast." Lol badass.
Lol breakfast of champions!
One of the best knife reviews I have ever seen.
be sure to check out our knife reviews playlist, we make the best ones on youtube hands down
Thanks for an excellent review. I got the Garbergs both in carbon and stainless steel. One with leather sheath and one with the multi mount. I can then mix them between the sheaths vs the area I'm camping in. Highly recommended.
They are a bit expensive vs the regular Moras but since I live in Scandinavia I can get all the Moras really cheap/sales This equals that I buy everything from them and I've got quite a big collection.....
The only drawback to these knives is the hard plastic handle in my opinion. It's not a problem for short use of the knives, but long term I actually prefer some of the cheaper Moras with rubber handles. I understand they did made the handles in polyamide (nylon) out of durability (indestructible) since it was meant more like a survival knives.
All in all they are indeed fantastic knives well worth their value imho.
/Knifecollector with an untreated knife collection virus
Quality video as always James! Enjoy your work even though I'm quite a ways away from the desert, (northern temperate, almost Boreal) dig the music also!
Thanks for watching! Glad you liked it!
Amazing review! Thank you!👍
my most used mora is my eldris that has turned into my office eating knife at work.
OMG! You eat your office?
Do you get "fries" with that?
I would pick stainless if your buying a mora just to keep in your "go bag". Won't rust in the event something starts leaking in the bag. Carbon is nice as an everyday user.
It’s like you’re reading my mind lol I share the exact sentiments. Check out my bugoutbag video, the Garberg stainless rides in there czcams.com/video/D-9kAcYgfTw/video.html
My favorite is the stainless Garberg , Iv had it for about a year now love it, I’m live in Mississippi, I’m also a knife maker.
Hello from W. Colorsdo, 7,000 ft. I been in the survival skills 50 + yrs - Arctic to Amazon.. Note - The Mora is a super knife. I have been to the factory in Sweden ! Well liked knife, but I'm still leaning toward the Kansbol.
Actually very different knives believe it or not. The kansbol is SUPER thin about 2" through the blade
All moras are great but the Kansbol is still my favorite
Very good review James, flint and steel was great love my carbon garberg too but the ole number one cant be beat either
I’m actually gonna be using my mora number 1 this coming year more often
I love mora knives .got the stainless 1428sanvik.very fine knive. I might get the carbon one .its very tought knive.i love this.
i think i prefer the stainless a bit more but both of these are exceptional blades
I own two leather sheets and love the blade AND the sheaths
I like the Mora kansbol first and my backup blade in my bag is my Mora stainless steal garberg. Great video!
Great choices! The Kansbol is my favorite!
My Garberg and Eldris are the only two knives I need when I’m outdoors. I prefer the stainless steel over the carbon steel. Nice review.
I own the Garberg and Kansbol, I’ll be checking out the Eldris soon
Great tests James! Cool use of your environment bro! Seasoning makes all the difference with some of the desert delicacies out there! Atb Sean
Spices are everything when eating wild food. I’ve learned that the hard way lol
Been eyeballing one myself, mora makes great stuff
i honestly wasnt very xcited to get this one sincei owned the original garberg for year. but man, it was suc a fun knife to use. so well made, and thought out.
Well I know what I'm getting myself for Xmas !!!
Outstanding review!
Great video. Thank you.
Loved the vid Great, i really love my garberg
yeah i gotta get me a stainless one again soon
Thank you for this video.
Excellent video, James. And nice skinning technique. I also own the Garberg Carbon Steel knife, and it's worth every penny I paid for it.
#1 for me is the Bushcraft model
True: in a survival situation salt is a long term essential.
Something people so quickly forget
Great review, i ordered this from massdrop about a month ago for 60 bucks!
Great knife! Great demonstration. Again I like how you use real time and not fast forward a lot. Carbon blade is nice. Works great, but I would prefer stainless. Due to the fact that stainless last longer in the elements. I would prefer the classic for sure. Thanks Junkyard Fox!
Thanks for watching Joseph!
good review my favorite Mora is the Companion in ss
I want to get one of them in neon-green :)
craig betts. agreed but in carbon.
@@herrkeks8509I have a neon green one, very accurate to the picture I've never lost it haha
Q-Pid Avenger Nice :) I think that a nice neon-green is sometimes very neat. There is also a Navy-Blue version out there. But it's kind of hard to get. This one looks amazing as well.
Mine is the companion carbon MG. And I actually like the sheaths and don't care if they ever change it. If they get a little loose, I either put them in some boiling water or hit them with the wife's blow dryer and squeeze it back tight.
I hope you get a chance to review the Terava Jääkäripuukko 110 and the Condor Terrasaur. Thanks for the video my Bladed Brother ⚔️
This is the kind of reviews I like seeing. Processing wild game, making some soap, and fire. So many people are all about "torture test" beating up the knife. Good to know that it's tough blade, But let's face it,it's just not realistic. You're video are refreshing. Thanks!
P.s. I'm having a hard time deciding on garberg or cansbol. I love the thin profile of the cansbol (great for wild game), but I like the carbon steel of the garberg(Chert and charcloth fire option) any suggestions?
thank you, i appreciate your kind words and completely agree, torture tests are dumb lol. as for the kansbol or garberg dilemma, it really depends on what youd use it more for, i like kansbol better because the thin blade is great for cooking and game processing, thought it may not be as rugged. perhaps in a year or two, morakniv will release a carbon kansbol.
Too late I just bought the garberg. But at around $30 or so for the cansbol? Why not get both? Guess what I’m going to get on payday 😁
I can’t wait to get out and get my boots dirty!
Wonderful video and channel. New sub. You prefer this knife or the carbon steel bushcraft black? I only have the carbon bushcraft black and love it but curious about your thoughts on head to head comparison.
Good job
I have a Mora Garberg in Carbon Steel with leather sheath and like it a lot. Strangely, the sheath is more of a dark brown instead of the advertised black and I'm fine with that. I really liked the three-fold presentation of fire-starting, skinning breakfast, and hygiene or creating soap. The only thing I might comment on is staying away from those sharp rodent teeth so I would have cut the head off sooner. I have an old Ka-Bar from carbon steel which is tried and true but is nearly a foot-long. I was hooked at ~6:03 when the damp tinder bundle started smoking and subscribed. Thanks.
