I've owned my Jääkaripuukko longer than my Garberg, but never quite liked it as much as I do the latter. It just ticks all my boxes and has a better edge retention in my experience (I must add that the first thing I did with the Jääkari was grind out the secondary bevel to make it a full sabre grind with slight convex, which probably makes the edge more vulnerable). As for the plastic Garberg sheath, it does have a slight click. It didn't grip my knife tight enough from the box, so I heated it a little and squished it into a tighter shape and its hold on with good grip since then. My plastic Garberg sheath doesn't seem to have that slight click, but that might just be down to my old ears 😂. Too much motorhead as a teenager. They are both really good knives.I tend to find myself grabbing my M95 Sissipuukko more often than either of them though. Thanks for watching mate.

I really like my carbon version especially once I removed that secondary micro bevel. It's a great knife but the belly sweep is a bit aggressive for the depth of that scandi . It's a bit tricky doing a legit zero grind on the belly to tip. Most people are never hitting the whole scandi so the belly becomes rounded or a large secondary develops. I reprofiled mine to zero by just pulling the edge on a board with sandpaper. It takes longer but with that blade it works the best for me. I also like the leather sheath but I like using the Brisa sheaths to. Their 95 works but is a bit small so the 115 is a deeper fit. My oldest first vid has my original stainless in a Brisa 95 sheath with dangler if ya wanna see how it fit. I've come a long way since making that video, feels funny watching it now 😂.

Three very good knives Tim. I'm working on a project at the moment, and I'll be adding the Mora Garberg SS as it's main cutting tool. The crazy thing is that all knives in the last 10 weeks are getting expensive, well here in Canada and the US anyway. On the US market they are going for 80 to 85 for SS and 90 to 110 for Carbon, I bought both for $63 each just two years ago. The Multi-Mount kit on Amazon is still at a good price, only went up $3 Canadian dollars since Jan. 3rd 2022, that's not bad. LOL Yeah for me I think everyone should have a Garberg in their collection, but, maybe not at todays prices.
Funny how prices fluctuate. I am really not sure how much the Garberg costs here. I have been lucky in getting second hand ones in good condition for not much money. Definitely a knife worth having. Thanks for watching mate.
Hi Tim, Garberg it's a good knife indeed. So tough that I've sold mine. Just didn't work for me, I've forced my self to use it and every time I went back to my Cansbol or 2000. Definitely has a better edge retention, but I mostly do food prep and lite carving, so really didn't use it very often. Cheers buddy, nice to see you 👍
I think the Kansbol and the 2000 actually do most things better than the Garberg. What the Garberg does best is just being super robust. The question is how strong do you really need a knife to be? I think the 2000 is underrated. I like it more than the Kansbol. I do think however that is just because I have had it longer. Thanks for watching mate.

Great video Tim!! I have the carbon version of the Garberg and love it. I do have a question that is a little off topic tho and thought maybe I could get your perspective. With all the issues with Russia, what is the average Finnish people's view on being prepared for that situation? I am not trying to be political in any way, I was just thinking that with all the forests there and with their outdoor skills, they seem to be a perfect fit for resistance and survival. I have read of experiences of there bravery during WW2 and was just wondering if that spirit is still alive? Sorry for the off the wall question, but I do overthink sometimes lol.
Finland has been preparing for war with Russia since the last one. Every man has done national service so everyone is a reservist and militarily trained. Many people also spend a lot of time in the forest and are quite good at finding their way around (hunting is also very popular, so they are good at shooting stuff). I think we could send Putin running off with his tail between his legs 😂. I think the Finnish people here feel the same. Thanks for watching mate.

The two problems with the leather sheath is it only comes in righthand carry and it tends to stretch when in a wet environment. I really love my stainless mora Garberg. Well let me say after i sharpened it. I didn't like it so much with the factory edge. I also cleaned up the spine were my thumb touches it. I don't need the whole spine sharp. Really don't mind a little light problems. When your giving us such beautiful scenery. A day outside is always better then a day indoors.
It's always so much easier to shoot knife videos indoors, but boring 😂. It's also quite difficult to see the screen in the sunshine so I can't see the details of what I am filming until I get inside. Enough excuses 😂 I am not a professional. I have had no issues with my leather sheath although thinking about it it has not been exposed to too much moisture (after all all moisture is frozen here for 7 months of the year). Of course one big advantage of the plastic sheaths is that they are ambidexterous. It would be nice if Mora like Terava offered a left handed version of their leather sheath. Thanks for watching. They are a lot nicer than the standard Mora knives though. The thing is there are so many good knives in that price range that it is very competitive and Mora are no longer on the top of the tree. Thanks for watching Grugs.
Gardberg is my go to choice for day hike, it splits logs and feathers nicely, i can't even remember how many years I've had my carbon and stainless Gardbergs, and although common knowledge would say the carbon is better holds edge better etc.... it doesn't the stainless is in pretty much every way better, infact i got bored with it because i had this micro-convex edge on it and it didn't matter how many hours i carved with it and how many logs i split it stayed just the same... thats an good problem.
It would be silly to say that all carbon steels are better than all stainless steels. There are many different steels and some are better than others regardless of whether they are high carbon or stainless. 14c28n is a fantastic steel with really good edge retention. I think with the stainless Garberg you get a higher end steel for the money. The carbon steel is the same as the cheaper moras, the cheaper stainless moras have 12c27 a good steel but not as good as 14c28n. Compare the price of the carbon Garberg to the bushcraft black, same steel with the same coating. Thanks for watching mate.
I have the stainless and the carbon versions. I keep them both in TOPS brothers of bushcraft( BOB ) black leather dangler sheath. It fits the knives really good. Their thick and very sturdy. They run around 50 to 60 dollars each.
@KuukkeliBushcraft I buy a lot of the tops BOB sheaths. They fit a lot of different blades. Their strictly dangker only. They don't have a belt loop, but I think their a great option, just because their such quality sheaths.
This is something I have wondered about. Do you speak to the dogs in Finnish? And if they understand English, do they have trouble understanding a Lancashire accent?
They get a mix but they know that they are in trouble when they get Finnish. Finnish just sounds more like you mean business, take no for example,it sounds quite gentle whereas Ei in Finnish can be equally abrupt but also drawn out into a quite mean sounding growl. Pois is another good one, as in away or out. Realistically they don't understand many words but are good at understanding intonation and body language.
There are many really good knives for the same kind of money (although here in Finland the Master Hunter is a fair bit more expensive than the Garberg). Still CPM3V for the price of the master hunter is a great deal. The master hunter is also a different knife and some people may prefer the Garberg's edge geometry, handle ect. We all have different preferences. Although I can't say too much about the master hunter as I have never used one. It does look like a very good buy. Thanks for watching mate.
@@KuukkeliBushcraft Thanks for the reply. But I was referring to the San Mai version, which is a convex grind and even cheaper. The CPM3V is kinda rusty for your weather conditions. The VG Steels look perfect for your environment (cold, wet), and that's probably why Fallkniven also use them.

I can't really say much about the master hunter, the convex grind has got my attention though 🤣. There are also many other knives around the same kind of price as the Garberg that are excellent options. But also a lot has to do with taste and personal preference. The JP Peltonen M95 for example is one of my favorites (although the M07 is more comparable in size to the Garberg) also Joker knives. Mora are no longer at the top of the tree in this price range.

Got the carbon version. Haven’t tested it out yet. Lil expensive for a Mora however a fine blade nonetheless.

I carry the garberg daily, but, like you, I prefer the Jääkäripuukko 110, Carbon Steel

Too expensive for what it is. You can get a - Cold Steel Master Hunter - for that kind of money.
