  • The Bahco curved wrecking knife 2449. Intended for the construction industry, but does it work for bushcraft?

    Mine was a disappointment. While removing the plastic handle (to replace it with a wooden one), the knife blank fall aprox. 25 cm on some concrete, and the tip has broken. Didn't expect that from a "wrecking" knife. For those interested, the tang is 8,5 cm, it narrows from 1,5 to 1,2 cm, and it has 2 small pre-drilled small holes.

      @KuukkeliBushcraft  Před měsícem +1

      25 cm wow that's nothing, quite surprising. The edge on mine seems pretty bomb proof. I have had to sharpen it of course but no chipping whatsoever and the chisel knife that I have has been really badly abused and survived. Trying to think of explanations but can't come up with anything other than the same old excuse of bad heat treatment.
      Getting the urge to drop mine on concrete now to see what happens 😂.
      Thank you very much for the tang info and for watching the video.

      @@KuukkeliBushcraft Maybe I was just unlucky and received a bad one, or maybe the tip chipped hitting some small harder rock in that concrete, who knows... But the drop was very small and the temperature was +20 °C... After that I didn't continue the project, but I still have the blank. If someone wants to put the work in this kind of makeover (handles, sheaths etc) they better test it a bit before.

    I own one of these knives and it really is a workhorse. It's also just fun to work with because it's so carefree because of the price, and you're not constantly afraid that it might break. It bites into the wood extremely well and, despite the wide spine of the blade, is suitable for outdoor cooking

    • @KuukkeliBushcraft
      @KuukkeliBushcraft  Před měsícem +1

      It really does make a knife far more versatile when it is so cheap that you don't feel that you have to be careful not to damage it.
      Very impressed with this things performance too. It cuts great, stays sharp and is comfortable to use.

    love that knife its the bacho 2449 wrecking knife if anyone has trouble googling them its 4mm thick sk5 steel and its made for heavy construction work so its designed for beating on the handle,the blades are made in japan it was told by bacho themselves in a mail.when i bought one in a hardware store i went trough like 15 of them before i picked a perfect one there might be small variations but for the price you cant really ask for more,you tend to find them in stores that carry the bacho gardening tools and chainsaw stuff.

    • @KuukkeliBushcraft
      @KuukkeliBushcraft  Před měsícem +1

      I forget to mention that, they actually advertise the fact. It seems to be quite common practice with Mora type knives to hammer the spine here in Finland. But to actually advertise it shows confidence in their product.
      Really is a work horse, cuts nicely and holds it's edge too.

    Looks really good. I'm going to have to try to find one. I have had a pretty good Dewalt Chisel knife for about ten years. Stays in my carpenter belt. Don't know who actually made them for Dewalt.

      Is it the one with the serrations at the base of the blade? If so I have one too. Also had it for a few years. I prefer the bahco though thinking about it the dewalt is in pretty damn good condition for the use it has had, it's doing well.

    Ive always heard great things about that knife. Its just impossible to obtain in America.
    Im try to decide between the ranger m95 or m97 or the jaakari puuko 140 or 110.
    I really side with the smaller in both.
    Im wondering which is more useful?
    If you could only afford one what would you use?

    • @KuukkeliBushcraft
      @KuukkeliBushcraft  Před měsícem +1

      I find myself carrying the M95 more than all of the others. Just feels so nimble in the hand despite the longer blade. The sheath carry options I think is a big advantage but I do think I like the Sissipuukkos a bit more. There really isn't much in it though.
      Thanks for watching mate.

      @Swisswoods Před měsícem

      Hi both, Have the two rangers since a while, both well used. KB correct (and good video as always). The shorter one has similar great blade but has a much thicker handle which myself I don't like so much for my hand (despite size 10-11 glove...). The longer one has a thinner handle which I really like, both good knives but just my preference. Finnish friends here swear by longer original one. Hope if helps. C.
