It would be so hard to choose, especially since some of those flavors are not things I would typically see here in the U.S. I’d want to try all of them.
10 years ago, as I was visiting a small town in Spain, there was a Spanish-Italian place selling Gelato. The best cold thing I had ever tasted in my life ! And since I would go there once a day, I recall my two favourite flavours were Mojito and Berries. Thank you Vincenzo and your team for reminding me of those sweet memories. ❤

One thing about gelato in Italy :
It's rare to ever buy bad gelato, no matter where you go. The worst gelato in Italy is similar to average ice cream everywhere else. Almost every gelato you'll ever buy in Italy is much better than the best of most other countries, there really is no comparison.
I'll give a shout-out to 'Voglia di gelato' in Domodossola (Piemonte), one of the best I've ever come across!

@@aris1956 it's a big city with lots and lots of food options so tips are always good... But yes, we do have our list of regular places I look forward to visit again :)
You should also go to Ostia Antica, it's a old preserved city like Pompeï, but near Rome! (I went there in 2008, it was fantastic!)

I lived in Viterbo one time, Don Vincenzo, and this one gelateria by the central shopping area had a *triple Nutella* that was to die for! Another gelateria near a church had this *gelato shake* with extra gelato and Nutella, with a biscuit…amazing!!!

On a recent visit to Sicily (Trapani to be precise), there was always a big queue for a certain gelateria. I asked a local friend if it was really that good, and which was the best one in town. She said that there were all good ones because a bad one would go out of business very quickly. I would say that is true for most of Italy, outside of the tourist traps.

How I tried to find a job but failed and went back to Germany via Carrara , Pisa and Riva
I remember many foods and the ice-cream was bombastic and Pizza Patata with potatoes and Rosemary, so tasty 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤

I love the fruit flavored gelato! Unlike other ice creams, the fruit content are really high. It's almost like liquid fruit.

I tried Venchi in Rome 4 years ago… it was outstanding. You’re right the chocolate is absolutely amazing. Personality I usually don’t eat chocolate gelato but this one is the exception.
By the way the make beautiful chocolates… the „chocoviar“ are my favourites.

I love the creamy versions that you had like the dark chocolate, pistachio and fior di latte is wonderful. But in Rome I also love to have the lemon and pompelmo rosa at Giolitti for the freshness, especially on a hot day! Thanks for the tips on more places if I ever get back for a fourth visit.

@Vincenzo's Plate It had been 9 years since we were last in Rome, so I only remember Giolitti by name. A year and a half ago we were in Firenze, and I remember Eduardo's there being very good and one or two others.
I guess I need to go back to Rome! Different subject. In Rome I highly recommend La Fiametta as a restaurant, a few blocks from Piazza Navona. Best amatriciana I've had, even better than my own.

Vincenzo! When I go to Pantheon I always go to Gelateria Della Palma. So many flavors, a treat for the eyes not just the tastebuds. Also I really enjoyed Old Bridge Gelateria outside the north walls of the Vatican.

In Rome now on my honeymoon and went to gelateria la romana today. I had watched this video a while back, forgot about which places you recommended and our hotel (Alpi) recommended the gelateria up the street which was that one. Went and absolutely loved it. I was at a very fancy mall in Orange County and there was a new store that said "Authentic Italian Gelato". I thought "that sounds promsing". The gelato was uncovered, massively puffed up In bright neon colors and I thought "I don't think this is authentic, according to Vincenzo", and I passed it by.

We visited Gelateria La Romana during our visit to Rome. We've been eating ice cream in Italy for 10 days and by far this one is the best. We tried 5 flavors and I must say the pistachio ice cream is amazing. Thanks for the video.

I weent there in 2019. 41 DEGREES OUT THERE, we were urgently needing a Gelato to make our mouths more fresher. Luckily, Venchi was the solution and we loved the gelato there. Loved the video, Vincenzo, cheers from Brazil 🇧🇷

The best hands down is the Crema at Gelateria La Romana. The silky “pull” is like no other texture I’ve had. I discovered it by happenstance in 2016 and just got back from Rome 2 weeks ago. It’s even better than I remember
In Rome now and tried many gelateria around the city. Venchi and Gelateria Romana were very good. But the best we found by far was Fior Di Luna in Trestevere! So good!!!

You are right La Romana is the best I ate there in Rome and Bergamo so delicious I felt like I was in paradise.
It's definitely a favorite among many gelato lovers. If you ever get the chance to visit Italy again, there are many other amazing gelaterias to try as well.
Gelato nerd here who traveled many times to various parts of Italy just for the gelato... I've visited many gelateria's in Rome and perhaps because it was so hot that day that you didn't feel like walking a lot :) as all the places you visited are relatively close to each other in touristy city centre. Places like Martinucci and Venchi I consider tourist traps. Martinucci (and Grom also these days), is a nation wide chain brand which puts pressure on artisanal principles. From Venchi I clearly remember the fluorescent looking Mango and other so called "artistanal" gelato there with over the top colours. Artificial colouring is an absolute no no for anyone passionate about (artisanal) gelato. Walked by it a bunch of times and only saw tourists there who are clueless in general. All of these don't compare to the really great stuff slightly out of city centre, like Fata Morgana or Dei Gracchi.
As a tourist it can be a bit of a maze to navigate which gelato place to go to for the best quality, but simple tricks often work: don't go to places which locals ignore. Cross-reference TripAdvisor with Google reviews and disable auto-translate to pick out the Italian reviews. Check what they say. Talk to locals outside the city centre. In the end you'll end up with 5-6 gelateria's to choose from. Visting 3 a day and you won't miss out during your road trip.

Have to say with the Pantheon, water will come through the top when it rains, but the floors have an excellent built in filtration system so it won’t flood. Excellent video though!!

@@vincenzosplate Hmm I like lasagna but I think my go-to dish is gnocci. I'm always happy with pasta. The thing is in Uruguay and Argentina pasta and some sauces are the usual stuff that your mom or nonna would do now and then. Tuco (not sure if it's exactly ragu or not), pesto, getting fresh pasta from a nearby shop/factory on Sundays, and gnocci on the 29th each month. My family comes from Spain, but I would get acquainted quickly with my friends.

My favourite is Fata Morgana, particularly if you pick one at their place close to Piazza del Popolo and then you enjoy it there is quite an experience. Or in Piazza dei Zingari at Monti, those are great evenings with people seating around. And is most gluten free for a celiac like me.

Can you say a bit about the prices, Not only gelato but also the cacio pepe or other foods in rome
Hey there! Prices for food in Rome can vary depending on the location and the restaurant, but typically a dish of cacio e pepe ranges from €10-€15. Gelato is usually around €3-€5 per scoop. Hope that helps! 😊🍝🍦
when you get back to Sydney, you should do a comparison by visiting Cow and Moon Gelato - a few years ago they beat all the Italian teams to be named best gelato in the World at the Gelato World Tour in Rimini. Would be a very interesting video

My ever favourite ice cream is Pinoli (pine nuts). But it’s sooo hard to find outside of Rome!

Probably a dumb question on my part. ..Never had Gelato in my entire life. Is there a big difference between Gelato and Ice Cream or are they both basically the same thing ? I'm from The Maritimes East Coast of Canada and to my knowledge I've never seen Gelato here

Gelato & ice cream are two different things the way they are made and ingredients. Ice cream is made with guess what cream and gelato with more milk.😋

Initially, I was wondering if there really is such a thing as bad gelato. Barring perhaps a few odd flavors, I couldn’t think of a time I had bad gelato, or even ice cream.

My step-granny made me gelato birthday cake a few times because one time my dad got an ice cream cake from Dairy Queen for my 14th birthday (I also got a drum kit that year) and she was angry that he didn't ask her to make it, she was all "I can make it better than Dairy Queen" y'know, like Eddie Murphy's mom and her better than McDonald's welfare green pepper burgers, but my granny's were awesome and didn't drip grease everywhere. She passed in the 2000s, I miss her gelato cakes.

@@vincenzosplate They were different every time, the best one was the first one, it looked like a Black Forest cake, chocolate and cherries with raspberries because I love them. That was my favourite, she made that twice.
