    I just got Upstairs Downstairs from a game store in Nashville for $24.99! I will be buying Wessex from you eventually! I just want to thank you for a great game and I love how you bring my childhood dream of living in England to life!

    Thank you for the video. I believe that most people will deduct most of this, even without the video or sheet. I think this video is a testament of how much you have cared for your backers and most of all, to deliver a quality product. And what a product it is! It's a great game, beautiful to look at, and that was clearly made with dedication and which really feels like a work of love. Thank you Dan, for allowing us to experience it and congratulations on a marvelous job.

    Appreciate the honesty Dan! Love the these videos on each of the expansions and 2nd edition components and changes. You can see the thoughtfulness and passion that went into design and delivery of such an extraordinary and unique game. Can’t wait to play my complete game of Obsession with the Upstairs Downstairs expansion.

      Thank you!
      I flipped through a copy of Dune the other day (an original) that my son was reading. On the first page, the first line said: "In the week before their departure to Arrauis, when all the final scurrying about had reached a nearly unbearable frenzy, an old crone came to visit the mother of the boy, Paul."
      Arrauis (it should be Arrakis)? Who proofreading a book misses a misspelling of the 1st occurrence of the main planet, the eight word of the book??
      So I have company. :) But it just goes to show that complex projects have errors. The errors get ironed out over time (reprints), but it is amazing what the mind misses in certain circumstances.

    Thanx Mr. Hallagan for this explanation video! Finally an unboxing video that has a purpose. It is actually so helpful you should have done it anyway even without the obmission. I watched this video minutes after I received my copy of everything in Germany! Eager to start playing!

      Great to hear! I do think I would have done it anyway; I tend to never read directions when I get a game. I watch a playthrough, throw it on the table and play multiplayer solo, THEN I read. I better absorb the rules that way.

I really appreciate and admire your thoroughness, attention to detail, and wonderful game! (I’m also halfway through the first of your books - what a Renaissance man you are!)

    This is still pretty complex. It would be good to have a separate video just on integrating with the 2nd ed base game, since a lot of people will be starting with that. Also, don't shy away from being opinionated! Have a recommended way to organize things (e.g., player boxes in base game). People will still do what works best for them.

      Dan Hallagan I’d suggest a player aid that has each of the wooden representative Meeples linked with the name of each. I’d do one with all on one sheet. Eg the picture of the wooden butler with it saying this is the Butler. Not having the game yet Im unsure if there is one. My impression is that the rules don’t have much icons in them.

    • @kayentagamesdanhallagan856
      @kayentagamesdanhallagan856  Před 4 lety +3

    Thanks for making this video, really helpful. Enjoy your break! Quick question for once you are back - for a 2P game would you still recommend integrating the 2nd copy of prestige 5 tiles with the base game, or are they meant exclusively for a 5+ player game? And doesn't the integration of extra tiles (like the additional 5P tiles or the promotional tiles) have an effect on objectives that require certain tiles to show up in the market?
    Also, there are only replacement tiles for a subset of monuments. Do we leave the original monuments for which there is no low-VP replacement?

    • @kayentagamesdanhallagan856
      @kayentagamesdanhallagan856  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes, the new way that the market is managed takes all tiles. That will be my next video (in support of the setup video). There is very little impact on objective, except to make a few difficult groups a little easier, which I think is a good thing.

    Hi Dan and thanks for this beautiful game! Still playing base game only as per your guidance but decided to integrate UD content compatible with base game hence I'm watching this video. Only thing I'm not sure about what to do is carriage house tile. Is it ok to just add it to the base game?

    • @kayentagamesdanhallagan856
      @kayentagamesdanhallagan856  Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you. Yes, the Carriage House tile can be integrated into the base game without any special rules. When you do add the Upstairs, Downstairs servants, the only new thing is that the hall boy can stand in for the footman on that tile.

  • @dddmmm21
    @dddmmm21 Před 3 lety +1

    Hi, another question please, about the level 5 tiles @28:22 (meant for 5-6 players) - I pretty much only play at 2p count, should I mix those into the base tiles? Setup of the Improvement tiles makes no separation based on player (only for Monuments). I am thinking yes, you can mix them all, but if in case both players already have bough a tile and 3rd come up in the Builder's Market, then that should be removed as nobody can buy again. Thoughts? Thanks

    • @kayentagamesdanhallagan856
      @kayentagamesdanhallagan856  Před 3 lety

      Yes, you can mix them. If duplicates appear, they stack. There is never 3 of a tile. There is either 1 copy or 2 copies of each tile.
      The extra Barns and Servants' Halls are only for 1st edition base game owners and will not be used it you have the 2nd edition.

  • @dddmmm21
    @dddmmm21 Před 3 lety +1

    Hi, so the gentry cards you talk about @6:50 (not the promos, not the new family), can it simply be mixed with the cards from the case game, even if you are playing without the expansion? Thanks

    • @kayentagamesdanhallagan856
      @kayentagamesdanhallagan856  Před 3 lety

      Correct. They function just like any of the guests in the base game. Same rules, favours, etc. You would have to set aside the Howard family cards if not using the UD expansion.

    So... I acquired the core set and all expansions including the promo tiles. I watched your storage video as well.

    Hi Dan, if we play with more than 3 player and we like to play with the "new" monuments (they are only 4), what should we do? Thanks

    • @kayentagamesdanhallagan856
      @kayentagamesdanhallagan856  Před rokem +1

      Just posted on BGG, but will repost here: The only restriction I would suggest is that you should never use the Garden Maze and the Sculpture Garden together (two ESTATE high VP monuments), which means that the most monuments you can have is 5 (the five high VP monuments that includes one of the two ESTATE ones). So 4, 5, and even 6 players (don't really recommend 6) would either get 5 high VP monuments or 4 low VP monuments, you choice. It is no issue that there are equal or less monuments than the number of players. Rarely do you actually see all the monuments anyway. As long as the players know how many and what type are in the bag so they can make plans, life is good.

    We played a five-player base game last night and found we had to reshuffle in the discarded objective cards as there weren't enough to go around. Are there any new objectives in the Upstairs, Downstairs pack that are compatible with just the base game at higher player counts? I haven't added the new tiles to my set yet either, while my group gets to know the game.

    • @kayentagamesdanhallagan856

      Sorry for the delay! I was 'off the grid' in Glacier National Park. The instructions do mention the need to reshuffle in discarded objectives at higher player counts. There are only about 3 new ones (outside the servant ones) in the UD OC deck, so that by itself won't solve the problem. Was it a problem to reshuffle?

    • @frenchy1138
      @frenchy1138 Před 4 lety +3

      @@kayentagamesdanhallagan856 No worries, Dan. No, no trouble to reshuffle, just wasn't sure if there was a different way. Some players got back cards they'd already discarded, but that's life in Derbyshire.
      I guess we'll just have to get Upstairs, Downstairs mixed in as soon as possible!

    Upstairs Downstairs objective cards, so those combine with the existing 2nd objectives deck?

    • @kayentagamesdanhallagan856

      The two Objective Decks are independent. You use the original if not playing with the Upstairs, Downstairs servants, and you use the UD deck when playing with them.
