I found a coin alternative. I play with one Penny (100£) and 5 New Pence (500£) coins. If you're not in GB like me, try to get these coins on Ebay some people try to get rid of useless holiday coins.

Great play through. Just got mine a few days ago. Can’t wait to unbox it on my channel and get to playing it. Probably solo at first until I can convince my group to play it. 😀
Really and truly, solo is the way to learn the game. There is nothing more disastrous than the slow, first-time, grinding teach in a multiplayer game.

Dan, thanks for this brilliant playthrough which I followed in detail to check I'm playing it right (and reminded me that I'd been forgetting the extra reputation point gained by the Cook). However, while you admitted forgetting the Lady's Maid in Round 7, did you also forget her in Round 9 (needed for Elizabeth Fairchild), or have I misunderstood? I don't think it made a difference, because you could have got her out of the Servants' Quarters (where she should have been after Round 7) in Round 9, and then again when you used her in Round 10... Also, did you forget to take your Monument reputation bonuses in Rounds 13, 14 and 15?

I can see playing with the new market board not destroying scores (especially because it allows the AI to snap up monuments), but the US/DS servants probably supercharge the scores
I agree, but what exactly is the supercharge? Remember, the game REALLY benefits from extra basic servants (particularly footmen and an extra lady's maid/valet depending upon gentry gender mix), and I went most of the game without that. It is a limiting factor. I am also committed to creating PnP opponents once I get enough plays in to asses the impact.
@@kayentagamesdanhallagan856 I didn't realize that the Monuments variant also counts towards courtship (I only thought it was endgame VP), that might make a difference. Final courtship alone nets, on average about 25 VP in two player.
Using US/DS, you can take advantage of the hirings during pullback turns at the cost of foregoing 200£ which is much weaker on average IMO (though maybe that 200 matters in order to compete for monuments?), so it was your choice to get for US/DS servants instead, which you could because you had the Servant's Hall and favored gentry that didn't require much service. This is not counting the drafted servant which - taking the Useful Man as an example - is going to offer about 500£ discount over the course of a non-extended game (really 700£ since you shouldn't take him unless you plan to do the Village Fairs).That's a net of almost a full monument's worth of VP by itself (which you double because two player is zero sum).
In EP this is magnified since each of the US/DS servants are engine building components and can give their value over almost the entire game with less downtime than regular servants (which are renewing resources that can't always be "spent" perfectly like the tile flipping mechanic).
I think there might be a way to math things out by figuring out, on average what extra each servant can give you per turn and comparing that extra 2-3 servant drafts vs. 200£.

@@tychay The monument variant does not count towards courtship. If I said that, I made a mistake. It only gets added to their end game total. I agree that the extended play will probably have significantly elevated scores because the engine is up and going longer. I think PnP opponents is probably a must.
Awesome video! It helped to hear your thought processes and to make sure I was playing the game correctly. I did notice at round 11 (~48 min), you only used the cook to host the tennis match. A footman should have been used, too, right?

Great video. I think I have been playing the Private Study incorrectly. I didn't know that staff needed to be placed on it for the tile to work. I thought once the tile was flipped over it granted the person the privileges listed by default.
Of course I also played the last courtship round wrong (totaling all of the points). I read that rule for the multiplayer and didn't think it applied to the solo play as the opponent card still lists the various scores. Another thing for me to change...
No, you are right that the Study does not need staff. The Useful Man has a special ability that he enhances what is otherwise an automatic £300 and 2 reputation each fair (if the tile has been flipped). Don't change anything there (unless it is to hire the very useful Useful Man...).

24:27 Hi Dan, why did you stack the Retiring Room tile on top of the second position tile? Just received this game and want to make sure I understand all the correct moves.
If a duplicate tile is drawn, it stacks on top of the 1st copy already in the market. There was a Retiring Room in the 2nd position when I drew the second one.

1. If a player purchases the top tile, the second tile remains and is available for another player to purchase on their turn.
2. If the purple die is rolled in SP, and it lands on a number where it takes the tile from position 2, both tiles are removed?
@@AppleZaider That is correct. I can't clip rules from the rulebook in this format, but you are exactly correct.
At 41:24, you don't have the reputation necessary to play the Baron.
The cook enables that play.

How do you draft solo?
You just pick which of the 'small' servants you want (Useful Man, Head Housemaid, Cook, Hall Boy, Valet, Lady's Maid, and Footman). You then reduce the Servants for Hire by the servant picked (if you pick a valet, you would then only have 1 valet in the Servants for Hire instead of 2; if you pick a cook, you would then have zero cooks in the Servants for HIre).

Hi Dan! I wanted to hop on here to tell you I had an awesome play with my first time introducing the expansions. I watched this playthrough first and then picked the same solo opponent Annesley but played with the Wessex family. What a game I had!!! I finished on a 129-129 !! But managed to win the last courtship so I think I won by having the fair child right ? Also wanted to let you know that I do love the mini courtship cards and keep using them. Also I may find the promotional material sometimes all over the place. But I need more plays to make up my mind about those. Anywho, thank you again for this awesome game of yours!
