  • Back in 1995, The Washington State Department of Transportation drove West on WA SR-516 and recorded video to document the highway. This was part of a project that photographed/videotaped the states highways every couple of years. This video now resides at The Washington State Archives who were kind enough to share it.

Thanks so much for these videos, I grew up in Kent / Covington and have been so nostalgic over the years trying to find photos / videos of places like this and downtown Kent (spec. Kent Station before developed). Just shared this on a Cov. fb group. I lived in Covington from late 90s to early 2000s right before they made all those additions so when I returned for work in 2006 I couldn't believe it!

Lol I was living in Kent for a lot of my childhood! I was born in 94. This drove right by a neighborhood I grew up in. It's trippy to watch this and think about how it's filming things that were happening within like 10 miles of where I was at the time.

That is exactly how I remember Covington. It's strange to go back and visit now

This was my stomping grounds in those days, I kind of expect to see myself driving my '67 Mustang.

My wife lived in the house on that intersection on the right, on 201st ave in Covington. She misses how it used to be all woods out there. Till all the trees got cut down for new home development. She said before they came, there use to be so many different animals and wild life that would come out. It was beautiful, But not anymore because their home was destroyed://

same, this drove past a neighborhood I moved to when I was 4, but I grew up in this general area from birth until I was 10, it's trippy to think that I was within like 10 miles of this car as they were driving it filming this haha

WAY more in Covington. Kent has become either gentrified the more South downtown you go in some areas and more dangerous in downtown and east hill unfortunately, coming from an 18 year old who's lived their whole life in Kent. Makes me cry a bit thinking how my hometown has changed a lot from when I was a toddler to now...

Well that's that's the fruits of immigration levels being upped from 200k in the 80s to 1.5 million in the 90s..
