  • Back in 1995, The Washington State Department of Transportation drove north on I-5 and recorded video to document the highway. This was part of a project that photographed/videotaped the states highways every couple of years. This video now resides at The Washington State Archives who were kind enough to share it.

The old is useless. Thank you so much indeed for sharing about the great work about the beautiful past .

When I was younger, I saw Winner's Restaurant, Cucina Cucina Italian Cafe, and Tony Romas logos on this food logo sign. I love looking back at old memories. That was before I was born.

Interesting to see how a few areas along this stretch had changed, but much of it stayed the same compared to the '83 video (namely, hi, Convention Center, and so long, Longacres).

Unfortunately not. The WSDOT project was limited to highways throughout the state.

Wow! Almost 30 years ago. Watched until Exit 168B. Didn't notice any visible graffiti on the bridge supports, walls or traffic signs. Also, the shoulders of the interstate looked almost pristine without the trash, tires and car parts. Lastly, not a single homeless camp visible. To end on a positive note: The Seattle skyline did appear to have smog hanging over it, so potentially our air is healthier to breath these days. So, we've got that going for us.
