  • 1/13/2015 --- Ana Lily Amirpour’s debut feature guides us on a dreamlike walk on the wild side, into the nocturnal and sparsely populated underworld of “Bad City,” an Iran of the mind that nevertheless rings true. In a cool and brooding scenario that involves just a handful of characters, an alluring female vampire stalks potential victims with a judgmental eye-but isn’t immune to romantic desire when it presents itself in the form of a young hunk who’s looking for a way out of his dead-end existence. Late to the party...sorry. This woman is amazing. Funny, geeky, awkward, but clearly very intelligent and hugely talented. And maybe a little in awe of Roger? Best of luck to her. Look forward to following what should be a very exciting career.

I loved so much this movie, it's like dessert after a long abstinence of sweets but again it's only appreciated when someone wants sugar, it sets the mood and the characters so well and the little details, the styling everything is so well made that you feel one of the residents of the city

I remember this from the DVD. Happy to find it posted here. I like what she says about preferring Robert Zemeckis over Jarmush.

i feel like she really doesnt want to assign meaning to it, like shes tiptoeing around the political imagery and the feminist undertones because she doesnt want to isolate audiences or pin one label to AGWHAAN. Its simultaneously all those things and none at all. Its a fairytale that audiences bring their own social, economical, historical, political experiences to, to create their own meaning.

Yeah, you gotta keep some mystique about art. Some artists try too hard to cling to their work, almost stifling it artistically like helicoptering parents stifle their children psychologically; they are overprotective and want to dominate what their artwork means - even to other people: So it makes these artists look dumber than their piece of art, which is more open to interpretation than their small-minded creators.
