It always strikes me the way the most genious people are often the most simple and straightforward.
Yes, that's how I felt and couldn't put it into words
bcz they dont have to pretend
Rodrigo Teixeira 💙 true
Cool to see Chris being a bit starstruck and nervous. So he is human after all 😄
I’m robot. Not human.
You can tell people like Paula are creatives at heart, pushing to find a solution and not being afraid to fail. And when you yearn to find a job or client where you have this freedom you will continue to grow not only as a designer, but as a person. Money is not why we are creatives, it's not what motivates us, its the freedom of expression.
Right
I had dinner with her back when I was in art school. She remains an inspiring cool cat 16 years later📐📝🎨😎
Where was she teaching at?
@@ArtNowCoding It was at an AIGA awards dinner in Boston. AIGA flew her in from New York and my professor at the time seated me next to her at the dinner table (very unexpected, and such an honor), it was one of the highlights from my college days :)
@@gonewiththekale that's absolutely amazing! I feel like one of the most powerful things is meeting one of the Masters in person because then you realize they're just people. People who have happened to have done amazing things
"If it isn't fun it isn't worth doing."
- paula scher
"If you are in a job and you are not allowed to make
that work then you have to change your job."
- paula scher
"if the fee is higher they tend to listen more" Boom!
i felt the same way :)
I like her demeanour "It's going to be a hard long slog and you better get ready to sometimes get your ideas recognised and appreciated and other times you just do the work"
OMG PAULA, NO WAY! I saw her in the Netflix episode of Abstract. Thanks so much guys for doing this with her!
So you bring Paula and now Chris is a little kid. I love your enthusiasm! I admire her work too and yours.
I love the answers she gives. They are earnest and sincere. she doesn't want to pander to the crowd. she's very honest and genuine. I think this is what designers need to hear
What a great talk. Paula Scher "schering" her vast experience and expertise. I cherish her book, Make It Bigger, signed for me in 2003 by her after hearing her talk in Washington, DC.
Nicely played.
"When the fee is higher, they listen more" BOOOOOM.
They really do.
The vast amounts of common sense, which is not common, from this design hero was amazing. Real day to day design life advice. So impressed.
1 billion minus everyone that watches this video
Absolute Legend! She shared a lot of gems in this talk!
Oh my god this itw is so much gold!!! I love listening to Paula, she is so wise and inspiring. Thx for this opportunity Chris!

Thank you for the authenticity and bravery to be real***
Love the conversation. Thank you
shes my favourite Designer.. I researched her on my 1st year of my degree & I became a fan of her.. I liked her work w/ her color scheme of red, black & yellow
Thank you for posting this video on CZcams 🔌⚡️.
I love how she is so down to earth.
I’m in awe of Paula. Thank you Chris for making this possible. Important, insightful and inspirational.
It was only a matter of time before The Futur and Paula united forces!!! I am so thrilled to see this interview with the ultimate design legend herself! Having seen her speak before and getting the opportunity to meet her, I am continuously inspired by her humbleness that she retains despite the countless accolades and fame that her amazing talent has cultivated.
She is a treasure telling it as it is❣️❣️
Amazing talk
She is awesome and tells it like it is -in true ny style. Thanks for being a great leader for women designers
FINALLY!!!! I've asked for this for so long and you guys finally did it! Thank you
It was an honor
Thank you for this. Amazing.
I have never seen Chris Do as a nervous kid like in this video here than in all the other videos he has ever made......Thank you Chris for sharing this....I know I am a kid...plz pardon me..... but the expression on your face is "never seen before" priceless
Wow, creative minds unite! 😍
I am a Content Writer and knowing about her is so inspiring..
Thanks The Futur..😄
Can't belive I missed this! I spent years doing work I love because I took on lower-risk projects.
Brilliant, thank you so much ❤️
OMG I asked for this interview
Man, this is gold.. So much of what she's saying touches on deep, real, daily struggles. And ones that do not get talked about anywhere else. This is worth coming back to every now and then.
What a refreshing talk! Thanks for this interview!
You’re very welcome and Thank you
Two LEGENDS in one screen!
No ego, seems mega honest and to top it off - nice boots. Not bad at a bit of design too apparently. Simply another level of creative logic. One of a kind. Bravo PS.
She came to my job once. I wanted to introduce myself but there where a bunch of people around her.
I still grind my teeth about it.
Opportunities are super important don't wait or hesitate, make a statement. That's what I learn from her tho she didnt even got to know me.
You missed it. Don’t miss it twice
@@thefutur Indeed. But to continue....
I was fortune to see Tinkel from the episode of Air Jordan. Again I wanted to introduce myself. But I couldn't I believe he had bodyguards.(I mean he's worth millions to nike) and there were a bunch of priviledge people around ..sigh...
However, there was gonna be a session of questions you could ask. I Attended and sat straight across him. There were only three questions to ask.
Obviosly people ask simple question like do you draw on paper or on your ipad.I was mad. But I insisted and made a gesture to noticed me. For a 4th question.
He did noticed me and allow me to ask a question. Thanks for what I learn in the futur. I knew I had to ask a good question
I asked him. " you mentioned there is a narrative almost like a story on designing the jordan shoes based on what charateristics and interests are behind the athlete persona. There is alot work and attention put into this. But... when this shoe is sold to us for the public. Is there a rection or connections you expect for us too understand the mount of value that was put on to the design"
I wanted to know how at what part he measures success. Is it when the athlete approves the design or when the public fells in love with the design. Thats tough to meet the expectation.
He lean back... and said that's a good question!
I felt proud of myself. That I did not hesitate!
Hopefully you guys had the chance to see this. Sorry for the typos.
Chris annd teams thanks for your hard work. You guys are helping lots of people out there. So sacred.
This is my favorite futur video ever
Positive emotions...to lift us up, look for spaces to mess up pressure, do stuff you're proud to show....persuade clients in their best interest...wise.
Paula is amazing and inspiring. Love her transparency and straightforwardness . She gave some great advice. Thanks so much for this interview !
You’re very welcome
Paula is cool and humble.
Being a graphic designer in South Africa is tough. We have 35% unemployment and tiny budgets. So the economy definitely plays a big part. Same goes for other countries like India, Philippines etc.
Jon Whelan i totally agree with you! Being an artist here in the Philippines is tough because most of them are underpaid or forced to accept little fee just to have the job.
@@elenacreates I know. I read that an animator on a Neflix show who works in the Philippines was paid $50 per week to work on a quality show. Very sad. I love watching Chris Do, but the Americans do live in a different world to the rest of us…
Jon Whelan because if that guy lives in the Philippines and making $200 per month and converts it to peso, that can be a decent money to make for a living. Yes, location can sometimes affect how much you charge for yourself.
I live in the southern part of the Philippines and man, graphic design here kinda feels like it doesn't even exist, especially branding! but I love our community of independent creatives in social media. they kinda help solve unemployment every single day and I love watching creatives getting hired without the govt knowing it. we just got to help each other cz no one will. community is key! The Futur is the role model.
@@thechisensei Well said. We're from all parts of this earth, doing the same thing, and we have the same problems. Community is key for sure.
She is the best!
That was fantastic she's awesome and full of energy and experience and success. Oh dude you described it well LEGEND ---> Keep it up
I wasn't in show because the show in Egypt was something like 5:30 AM but thank you
Thank you
@@thefutur you are very welcome
2 great Designers in one place. Design inspiration
Thank you
Mo is just hanging out going nuts with video and photos!!
I'm a graphics designer but I want learn from her about graphics designer Paula Scher she is my idol for her if I getting a chance I have to do learn as like my teachers
I label designers, the gods of design and the gods of the business of design. This indeed has brought both gods I admire together. What a beautiful combination of growth and experience. It's good to be alive to witness excellence with the level pedigree. Beautiful beyond words and design, for certainty, it is - indeed.
Howdy Tim.
Everything she says is wisdom.
What a woman, loved following her career!
She's the best, hope she never die!
Design Legend.
OMG!!! Love her
Holy shit you got Paula Scher on the show awesome
Love the way you talk ❤️from Kashmir pakistan
This is awesome! I'm a huge fan of the Public Theatre and I never knew about the designer behind their current branding!
I'm so late! Fantastic Interviews coming in :D Lot's of knowledge nuggets... #Futurwolfpack
WOW!
This made me realise I should ask 500 for a poster instead of 100
At the 18(ish) minute mark, Paula is saying about getting the client's tastes and designing for them. I was suprised Chris didn't pick up on this and question whether we should be designing for the client's audience, not just the client.
I was thinking about so many things.
Paula is clearly so commercially savvy and knows how to sell and deliver and this often has to be part of it. User focus sadly isn't at the forefront of every client's mind.
@@thefutur - I bet yeah. What do you think now on reflection?
Legend

Some people don't age with the passing of time. She's sharper today than when she designed the Boston cover.
She is really nice.
The only way to get them to do what you think is best is to show them something better.

What movie was she talking about at 23:32?
"Abstract" on Netflix... is fantastic
2020 Another Huge Ressesion
🔥🔥🔥
with all due respect for Chris you can see clearly a Great designer Who work for love of art. And a designer who work for reproducing Money. Great designer Paula ❤️
You don’t think she charges a lot for her work?
@@thefutur of course if you be best at what you do money will come. But The Main thing is if money become main reason to accept projects you will kill Passion of designing in yourself. at the end there is nothing to ignite Passion of designing but money. if money is good I'll do the job if money isn't good. Nah I'm not interested.
Chris Guide me!
I wish there was art around me. I have been working as a designer in an IT company. yes. Just to have a livable income. Almost nothing to learn here. Freelancing is a major risk. I only get some time on the weekends when I sit and work on my own ideas at times. I wish there was someone to guide me through this. How I could actually learn and grow and improve my skills. I would be happy to share some of my photoshop compositions and other designs if anyone is interested.
♥️
she is lovely
This is my girl right here...

MY GODD she's sweet
I thought the most Famous graphic Designer in America is Stefan Sagmeister.
She’s been on Netflix
@@thefutur I also was on Netflix, Amazon Prime, and the TV but this doesn't mean I am famous.
never seen chris stutter this much lol
She didn't look at him once. Awkward
love paula, but the thumbnail just made me sick, its so sad to see her image related to a generic thumbnail
Stupid interview, not asking any questions about actual design?!
What question would you ask?
@@thefutur I dunno man, i just felt that all the questions were related to business and how to be successful and deal with clients etc, but TBH these answers will be the same from any successful person so it's just not that enlightening ........ i would have been much more interested in hearing about her actual design process, inspirations, what she thinks about modern design trends, the future of design, just anything not related to how to increase your bank balance. Perhaps there was one of these questions in there because i have to admit i didn't watch the whole thing, i switched off half way in frustration!
