I'm Mexican, and I love the Netherlands. I can decently pronunce Het Wilhelmus and Dutch words in general, but still, to be honest, Nederland is een hele moelijke taal. I specially find the "ij" confusing, I still can't figure out how to properly pronounce it

This was beautiful! I watch a stable in Friesland, Netherlands that raises Friesian horses. I wanted to listen to the Dutch National anthem. I found one that gave 15 verses and the translations. Amazing retelling of history in song. Which verses are normally sung most often? Thanks for your work and your voice is quite wonderful!

Why do you call it a "barbershop quartet" when A: it's really nothing more than a solo times four and B: you use the one guy who doesn't go to the barbershop?
Because A: Barbershop IS homophonic 4-part harmony. There is no solo going on in this video.

Sonny Vande Putte: according to Wikipedia, a "Barbershop quartet" is a group of four singers. If one and the same person takes the part of lead, bass, tenor and baritone, and calls it a "quartet", it's as though you masturbate and claim you had "sex". I know that the "barbershop" is meant to be taken figuratively, but it would still be awkward if your butcher claimed to be a vegetarian. "Does one need to carry a rock to be allowed to sing rock music?" -> No, but it would help!
he basically did a 'one man quartet' if you will, meaning its 4 parts but he sang it in 4 parts himself rather than 4 different guys together, its more work however but if you arent in a quartet for reasons then this is the alternative way of singing barbershop. hope that explains it enough for you. also, he is one of many one man quartets that are here on youtube, Accapella Trudbol, SaberTracks are a couple others here on YT. hope this helps

Traditioneel wordt inderdaad 'dood' bedoeld, maar zong men 'doet'. Het staat ook letterlijk zo in de partituur. Misschien is het een oudnederlandse uitspraak van het woord?
Ondertussen zingt iedereen wel een mix tussen 'dood' en 'doet', omdat het natuurlijk moet blijven rijmen op 'bloed'.

Christiaan Bronoord het is niet traditioneel Nederlands, daar heb je gelijk in. Maar redelijk veel Nederlanders - waaronder ik - leggen altijd hun hand op het hart als het volkslied gespeeld wordt. Het is voor mij een vorm van respect tonen aan mijn vaderland. Maar als bijvoorbeeld het Russische volkslied gespeeld wordt of het Israëlische; dan sta ik alleen op en zing alleen mee. Maar zo ben ik dan weer!
It's not even "typisch Amerikaans". Senile Reagan started doing it in the 80s because he was confusing our anthem with the Pledge of Allegiance. And then his party of fascists later declared it "mandatory" in an effort to normalize it.
