I wish race discourse didn't exist and we could appreciate a character and its theme. Roxy with or without curly hair is still a unique, well-written character. Cheers to a fantastic character and theme!

It confused me at first, but I like how the Pesterquest sprites are in a bunch of subtly different artstyles, with John, Karkat and Roxy both being on the far 'cartoony' end. It suits their personalities, as opposed to Dave, Rose, Aradia etc who have thinner outlines and a more 'flat' look.
roxy’s sprite has an interesting depth to it’s artstyle. outlines of greatly varying thickness, tending toward the thicker side, with more lines in general. it’s not quite “cartoony,” per say.
Roxy's talksprite hair controversy aside, all of the writers and artists who worked on PESTERQUEST, FRIENDSIM, and all other stories that tread/alternate between canon, non-canon, and outside canon all have their own fingerprint inputs unto the plot, character info, and background designs. It's alright to disregard or accept an official staff's interpretation of a character for this reason.

looking back no clue why people were losing their minds over her hair like compared to other sprites her halr here is one of the more accurate ones. literally all they did was make it curlier which. Okay? jades hair is actually floor length in her sprites. theres room for artist interpretations

I agree it definitely has a flaws like there's some shading issues but overall I love it
Mom lalonde sprite and this sprite are so different that they don’t look like the same person, and mom lalonde sprite is close to canon
when I was first making head canons for homestuck I always assumed roxy had curly hair. It fits her zany personality and not to mention the fact that there is a literal swirl in her hair, possible indicating the matter. I don't really see why people are hating on it, it's really cute and adds flavor to the roster of sleek hair.
A lot of hate here about her hair here for some reason, so I just want to say that I actually really, really love it? I love her curls. There were two ways to go here, and gelled straight hair that was just propped up for the aesthetic would have been really easy, but I adore her curls here. There's really not any other character we get with hair like that in all of homestuck, and it's adorable on her.
the problem in this case is largely the style. if done in a more bouncy style, the curls would be great. in vfs, it doesn't work as well at all.

her hair reminds me of fluffy clouds, and for that i adore it.
i feel like her hair is good on a lot of ways, but it was done sloppy, the linework on the hair even seems messier than all of roxy, the shadows seem off too
its a bruh moment, all it could take is a bit of minor tweaks here and there to make it look fine, for me tho, i personally think the artist had sum migraine while sleep deprived when finishing it
The art style for roxxy gives me jet set radio vibes.

I just realized she's supposed to have curls! Its cool as curly girl but maybe if the tips were so pointy and more rounded and sharp? Curly hair is so full and fluffy it could have been more soft around the edges. But I guess that's why it's been throwing people off. Roxy's still a cutie though ❤️

Honestly, I don't get why people dislike her hair. She's a person who grew up alone 400 years in the future with nothing but hairless carapacians for company, and she's both an alcoholic and also isn't exactly a person who cares as much about how she comes across compared to Dirk (Because they're in similar situations). Why would her hair NOT be the mess that it is here? Her hair being neatly, perfectly made and straight would make no sense for her character at this point in the story.
im pretty sure the artist headcanons her as poc so they gave her textured hair, but what you said makes sense tbh-
the art style just really does it no favors.
The problem is not that it is a mess. The problem is the amount of corners and otherwise jagged edges that could not possibly exist in hair unless made purposefully that way. Being a mess most certainly does not do to your hair what it did to Roxy's.
@@meemaw-lao0wk I've never understood why people headcanon them as any natural human race. Kanaya first described Rose upon seeing her for the first time as having "Skin as white as a ghost! (sic)", meaning not they are Caucasian (or any race at all) and are instead an actual pitch-white tone, and Dave's rap at olive garden literally contains a line calling himself "racially ambiguous (sic)".
yeah curly hair gets matted easily (speaking from experience here) its a pain to have but hey it looks good

I don’t hate the hair, well at first I did but I eventually saw the appeal to it. Makes sense what everybody says about it and I don’t mind now at all. I think what bothers me is how it kinda makes it feel inconsistent with the rest of her. Like if maybe they also made her clothes rumpled too? But that’s just me

@@daarins nah fam the problem is like. All else. Her hair doesnt fit well with the rest of the sprite. That's it. Thin lines that are too straight in some spots, its night and day compared to other characters from pesterquest.

There is absolutely no way they would be wearing a binder at this time, as their thoughts and pronouns only ever deviate from "she" during their time on Earth C (and only fully developed in the Meat timeline, as John choosing Candy immediately halted that train of thought from her). They presented entirely as female in 2011.

The only way that I can take the hair seriously is knowing that she is a constantly drunk person living in the apocalypse so it's understandable but the artist was not going for that they were going for a certain racial head canon and while there is nothing wrong with that I think official material needs to try and stay official especially when we already have a design for mom from roses route

Yeah mom lalonde and roxy’s sprites do not look like the same person, and I’ve never seen roxy with curly hair in homestuck. Mom lalonde is closer to canon

Why the hair is wrong: She is Dave and Rose's ectobiological mom. Any genetic traits she would have, those two would also have. Plus her hair was always meant to be interpreted as the "70's sitcom mom hairstyle."
It looks cute, I can't lie, but it's inaccurate for reasons beyond rubbing personal tastes the wrong way.

Tbh i dont like her hair , not because its curly but its because it doesnt fit the game artstyle , and it looks like sooo rushed , i dont like it.
