Bit of a longer one for you Anglo-Saxons/Vikings fans... (New vids aren't always going to be this long- I got a little carried away here..) Hope you guys like it.. The North Remembers...
History Time Don't apologise for the length of the video. I doubt that I'm the only one who has longed for a near hour History Time video.
I'm keeping this for tomorrow... You're doing a great job matey
Thanks !
I love this
By the way, who are the three dickheads who downvoted this??? Christ
Love your videos, especially those around the viking/Saxon age of England. I’m born and bred in the northeast of England and have always loved the rich, if forgotten, history of the area.
After a year studying at a quite privileged university in the south-and requisite visits to London-the Northeast was the first part of England I really saw. I stayed in York and then Whitby, where I fell in love with the coast. Of course, I knew a little about the Viking history, the Danelaw, and the evidence of Norse settlement in place names like “Whitby” and much of the English language-as well as later upheavals like the Pilgrimage of Grace. It’s great to finally connect that history with, say, the name “Scarborough!” It’s a beautiful part of the country and everyone I met was quite friendly.
I’m in the exact same boat as you Lucas, and the same area!
Great great grandmother was a Tapping
I love these documentaries. Although there are many terrible aspects to the internet, it is wonderful to see a bright, driven young man like you finding CZcams as an avenue for your passion for history. Keep dreaming!
dude, you're a damn hero doing this on minimum wage. A legend.
Yeah fair comment, you do a fantastic job Mr Kelly.
@@Thorkell64 Minimum wage!? Don't talk daft, lad!
@@edelgyn2699 How much is he on then?? 🤔🤔
Awesome. There is almost nothing available about the Danelaw on CZcams; and its one of the most interesting topics I can think of. Well done. My favorite "What If" is what would have happened if King Harald had been able to make a deal at Stamford Bridge to give up Northumbria; then crushed the Normans at Hastings.
Maybe ill do an alternate history some day :D
That would be fantastic. You do excellent work, so I'm sure it would be well done. I know you get endless requests, but if you ever get around to the Border Wars among the Scottish Reiver families and the Wardens of the Northern Marches, that would be amazing.
Oh that he had and that Williams the Bastard had been pushed into the sea.
@@ianmedford4855 - that's a great shout. @Pete Kelly - if there is to be an episode on the border reivers (particularly the Armstrongs), you'll have another patreon supporter for sure. This episode was my first watch and it's a topic I'm very familiar with. Great stuff. Subbed.
I’ve always wondered that too!
can you replace the bbc as the national history standard of the UK for documentary.
Too many interfering producers over there would never allow this video to happen : )
Shame people might actually learn something other than properganda but CZcams is better anyway man.
He's not communist enough. He did use the melting pot trope though and nonsensical words like 'irregardless' so he's in with a shot. He just needs to keep up the soy ingestion.
Please replace the History Channel too
Anglo Scandinavian is the wrong type of multiculturalism
Loving this channel . Nice to not just continually here about Tudors and Victoria era on TV . Even when vickings is mentioned literally only talked about is initial raids on monastery and that's it .
I got a long commute, I don’t mind the longer vids. Congrats on the Great Courses plus sponsorship
Thanks man!
The majority of my recent and distant ancestry is of Viking and Celtic descent. I love learning about the struggles and victories of the men and women who made a name for our people in the Book of history. Thank you for taking time to tell their tales, and very thoughtfully and accurately. 👏👏🥰
Yes me too I am so grateful to learn of these people .
I am from Dublin and recently had my DNA TEST come back and I am of Danish decent it’s sais Ian closest to the Danish people than any others in the world
FYI: 'Irregardless' is not a word; it is either 'regarding' or regardless.
Still, kudos, detailed and well-presented.
irregardless of what you think it certainly is
@Cory Presser Actually 'irregardless' is a word, it just has no meaning - like Winston Churchill's perennial 'revelant'.
I'm not sure that lexicographical criticism belongs here unless it's started by qualified lexicographers or highly qualified amateurs like me - and I'm not sure that it should be even then.
I love your channel. You are what The History Channel should be.
Please keep these videos coming Pete. I have learned so much more about early English history from you then I knew was out there!
The videos will keep coming : ) English history is a rich treasure trove of long lost stories and tales of old.
@@HistoryTime Absolutely
What an amazing country and heritage I have and live in. It must be preserved forever.
Kenneth J Harl's Viking course is brilliant. I often go back every few months to re-listen.
It is fantastic. All of his courses are great. I'm hooked on 'barbarian empires of The steppes' at the moment.
A new almost hour long video after a night of work with a joint rolled up, you sir just made my day
Excellent, learnt more from this about our history than I did at school in the 60’s. Thank you.
Prof. Daileader was my master’s advisor. So nice to see people enjoying his courses!
45 minutes!? Well I know how I'm going to be spending my lunch break tomorrow. Great work my friend.
Thanks man. Really looking forward to seeing your videos when you get going!
You spoil us with the longer videos! So good!
: ) They won't all be this long. I got enveloped in this time period. I think maybe I'm an Anglo-Scandinavian powerbroker now?
Oh yes please. I love this chaotic time period.
Chaotic times in history are the most interesting
No way you should only have 46k subscribers. You actually sold the great courses plus better than anyone else as well.
Excellent work Pete. Looking forward to more !👍
Glad you liked it! Looking forward to making more : )
Your videos are enormously helpful! This cleared up so much grey area! Thank you!
I thought this was one of those light docus where you can just do other things whilst this going in the background. A few mins in I realized I couldn't be farther from truth. This needs my full and undivided attention. Thank you for levelling up my expectations on documentaries!!
Its quite a lot to take in, I am gonna have to go watch it a couple of times. Thats not a bad thing. All hail the Great North Sea Empire!
It is not an easy period of history to take in, but it is a rewarding one
Man, fuck the North sea trade empire, Kent is the real plug for goods from the mainland.
@@mcarpenter1948 theres a reason they call you clowns down there southern fairies 🤣
I had a hard time following it
45min video +history time = yessss! :D
Yeah!
Thank you for the tip. Am now signed up for great courses. I had watched their celtic history course a while back, so this is awesome!
Quite simply the best documentary on the subject I have seen. Brilliantly presented with well constructed visuals. I salute you.
Fan of all your videos. Ive seen them all, some of them many times. Love your presentations, they are perfect. Your voice is amazingly well fit as narrator to these epic sagas. Well done again Mr Pete Kelly. Will be donating to your patreon soon! Keep it up man!
There sits the only man I mean to bend my knee to! The King in the North!!

Seriously I have watched hundreds of documentaries and you have some of the best content on the whole web. Outstanding work....
I only just found your channel... I LOVE it. TY for the awesome stories! Well done!
Every topic you touch upon provides pure illumination! Gratitude and many thanks for your insight and diligence.
I will gladly support you, friend, as long as you never say irregardless again. :) Awesome work!
Pete, your straightforward but methodical way ot illustrating and presenting these histories has helped me learn more about English history. Great job and great personal story. From David Dickey, Arkansas, USA.
Thank you for taking the time to make this documentary
Excellent as always. Unfortunately I've now exhausted your collection of videos. I await more, more and thrice more please. Love this channel 👌🏻
incredible job, really well thought out video, awesome presentation. thank you
What a phenomenal video you have put together! Thank you so much
incredible video, thanks so much. I know you've got tons on your plate but the Saxon/Germanuic entrance into Britain has always fascinated me, as well as the Celtic, if it was even an entrance. I'd love to hear of this time period. Thanks for everything.
i love your storytelling approach and the music in the background
Keep up the good work mate. You make the best history documentaries on youtube in my opinion.
I remember when you had like 12 thousand subscribers dude. I'm so fucking proud of you bro
This is a very very good video......impressive! My deepest respect and thanx!
Absolutely love this💕 keep up the great work.👍
really good and informative, thanks for uploading
Thank you for letting me know about great courses plus is actually really cool. Got the free trial
Once more an excellent piece of work, and you have a great way of expressing the drama without being tacky or over the top, just the right tone of tenseness. Thanks for your time and effort.
Thanks very much! Glad you liked it. Much more on the way.
Tremendous channel man, thanks and keep up the good work.
This is on my list to join soon. Keep up the good work.
Really excellent videos, enjoying very much!
Absolutely brilliant. Learnt new things about my own history. New subscriber.
Keep up the good work.
I like these longer episodes
Thanks
Standing ovation!!! Superb craftsmanship. It could easily pass as a History Channel show when the channel was the best. 11 of 10 scale.
Thankyou my friend. Very kind! So many more videos on the way! Thousands of stories to tell.
I absolutely love what you are doing...your tone...diction and background music are very much on point...just like the information...my only desire was that the maps stayed on a little longer...i have to pause and replay a lot to fully assimilate....but i understand the need for a certain pace in view of the amount of information you.put in...just keep up the fantastic work friend!
Love all your videos Pete great work and im a big fan
Congratulations on the sponsor, I'm glad your channel is picking up you deserve it, hopefully next month I'll be able to afford to become a patron. I've been watching pretty much since you started I always knew somebody with your upload frequency and quality would get attention, keep it up!
Thanks man! Great to hear you've been here since the start !
Your’s is one of the first channels i subbed 2 yrs ago!!
I felt your passion & worried that 2020 would be too harsh on you!!! Soo glad you proved me wrong!!! Please 🙏 don’t ever quit ❤️
Outstanding summary. I had no idea! Now I want to delve in and learn more. It’s a shame historical records were lost, like the library of Alexandria 😭
The one great sadness is the constant struggle that occurs because of the great selfishness and lust for power that drives wars, rape and destruction. The devil takes care of his own... until they are no longer needed, it insures a long line of those willing to do anything for power and wealth.
Another great video, as always.
Glad you like it! Thank you!
Thank you for this. Utterly brilliant.
wonderful video... Im hooked..lol.. The fact that you dont just hit the high points of each era as many other docs have is refreshing. theres a lot more to the early viking era than Lindisfarne and the "Sons of Ragnar.."..lol
I love all about the vikings, keep sending there sagas, thank you so much
BRAVO! another brilliant production. i await patiently for future videos .man does not live by bread alone.cr.
Glad you liked it! Many more on the way.
I'll say it again, I have been waiting for a source such as this, since reading The Year 1000: What Life Was Like at the Turn of the First Millennium, by Danny Danziger. Thank you!
These videos are amazing love watching them 😊
Keep it up, absolutely loving your videos!
Thanks! Glad you like them! I'm not stopping any time soon!
So interesting! Can't wait for more!
Absolutely excellent video mate! What a great channel!
Glad you liked it! Video on you coming soon.
Amazing Content Peter!
Superb stuff mate. If i had to only choose one YT to follow, this'd be it.
great videos, no better place to learn about this sort of history in such a easy to take in format, keep it up!
Thanks very much. Glad you liked it!
I love these longer vids!
I like that this channel has history we don't hear much about. most videos are all about ceaser/romans, the Khans, the usual great men.
Thankyou! Glad you like t
Watching for a second time but i cant leave a second like... Super awesome! Norwegian fan and follower!
I love these videos so much!
Great presentation; I've had an interest since grad school. Well done. 😀
fantastic work, thanks
I always returned to your channel thinking maybe CZcams notifications were being horrible, but then Im greeted with a 45 minute video. Best thing all week!
Glad you liked it! : ) Thanks!!
Brilliant video and i agree to the max with praising professor Philip Daileader. I love all his audiobook works!
Your videos are really brilliant!
Love these longer videos
signed up the great course plus absolutely loads on there am i gonna binge
For all you mega Anglo vikings fans I highly recommend the Manga series "Vinland saga" it's mostly historical fiction but it's historically authentic with accurate weapons and armour with a amazing story
I'm going to have to check this out!
History Time
You should! It's a great story! By the way love your videos I have been a long time subber
I watched every episode of the first series on CZcams. Really hope they make more. Its the only animation ive ever got interested in.
(standing ovation) Keep it up! Encore, encore!
This is what I needed to help me learn more about post-Roman, pre-Norman England. Anyway, I cant believe you made a 45min video.
They aren't all going to be this long : )
History Time
Or are they?
They will be anywhere from 5 minutes to 50 minutes. That is the beauty of being a one man project. I can take as long or as little time as is needed to tell the story : )
History Time 5 minutes or 50 you're doing a great job. Keep it up!
+Micahistory please. you are really baseless and infuriating. HistoryTime has always thanked me and liked my comments. Normal people give eachother input and that is what we are doing. It is also how Historytime receives my comments. You really have no say in it. I dont know why you are still insisting on saying anything on the topic. Your videos are poorly made, and poorly planned. When I commented those many weeks ago, I gave you fair criticism and it you took it badly. That is your problem. I hardly said anything. I need you to stop making these personal comments because it is childish, it is incorrect and it is undeserved. Please just grow up or go away. Either way it is up to you.
Awеsomе work mate your voice is pеrfect for voicing, I havе a suggеstion about your nеxt vidеo,I would lovе a video about thе North sеa еmpire and king Cnut thе great

I love the music you use.
Hell, I gave a like because that was the best review of the Great Courses Plus I've ever seen.....
It's a great service : )
great video, dude ! :)
Thank you! Wonderful work! I would like to know about the Scandinavian love for democracy and how it is conected to the Brittish democracy. You probably know about the allting at Iceland, Jamtamot in Jämtland, Sweden and the parliament in Isle of Man.
Thanks for watching! Great suggestions, I will try and turn this into a video one day.
Fantastic video
