Cawl would need a sample of their geneseed, RG is irrelevant here. Interestingly, it's implied he used genestock from all 20 Legions, but didn't get access to Grey Knight geneseed...
Side note for anyone else who comes across this in 5 more years: in the current lore it's been revealed that the Emperor is where the Grey Knights derive their genetic stock.
Abanddon currently has an imprisoned Grey Knight. Fabious Bile could possibly do some experimentation, if they're willing to work together long enough. Outside of Bile, nobody else would access or be skilled enough to experiment on Grey Knight geneseed. We probably aren't getting GK Primaris anytime soon.
Also, the Grey Knight Abanddon has imprisoned is one of the original founding Grand Masters (a fallen Dark Angel named Epithelius). His geneseed would have been harvested a long time ago OR it's his original Dark Angel geneseed.
I guess that sets up a scenario where the Lion could rescue him, if there's ever a boarding action on the Vengeful Spirit... But I won't hold my breath.
