Who would of thought the rookie straight out of high school drafted 13th overall back in 1996 who averaged only 7.6 PPG during his rookie year will go down as one of the greatest players in NBA history. 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆 🐐
+Nate Calhoun He always had potential but he played under a dumbass coach.
+Watch Me Nein Nein. Eddie Jones, 'nuff said.
+Nate Calhoun Uh I did, I guess Lakers fans did too. I watched all his rookie games & I was wondering why he didn't get playing time? But you always see something special when he was on the court.
Now when you think of it, he was benched not because Eddie Jones & Nick Van Exel was better but because they were All-Stars & being paid a lot more to be the starters.
Also Del Harris seem to hate Kobe & he was about to get fired & needed to get into the playoffs. Most rookies have more leeway when it comes to mistakes. Harris didn't want any part of Kobe the rookie. If Kobe played in Charlotte I'm sure he would be 20 + ppg like Iverson & would have been co rookie at least or 1st rookie team.
+adryan baul Number 1 play should be the 3 airballs against UTAH. It is also the reason why he is better mentally than the whole team combined. 2 All-stars & 1 Superstar in the team didn't want to take those 3 shots. Kobe was fearless & airballed all 3. That was the beginning of his greatness.
Now, they would make him sit in the D-League. We should have more patience with players before immediately sending them to the NBDL .
RIP :( So sad right now. I grew up watching almost all of his games.
Cherished every moment of it.
It's crazy seeing this 17 years later....
18 now lol
+Nam - 19 now lol
+Cedar Rapids How about that Chris Morris on the Jazz? Definitely makes this video old!
C Haguyashi crazy watching it now lol
20 years later
It's amazing seeing this clip, and the fact that Kobe is still with the Lakers today. Truly a legend on the courts.
Brian Cheng That defines LOYALTY
🔥
But he requested a trade multiple times
RIP Kobe, you will live on in our hearts and souls LEGENDS NEVER DIE!!!
nothing better than 90s video footage cleaned up and in high res
1:38 I saw Michael Jordan.
tongue out too
I thought I was tripping 😂
Tough
Wow hearing them call Kobe a kid.. Wow.. I wasn't even born yet when he played his rookie season. I was born a year after.. He's a legend for sure
Chris56076 I was born in 97 too watched him in the 2000s which is he most underrated era Kobe will always be my goat don't care what no one says
Yeah an it’s funny cause MJ is my legend 😂
I always admire Kobe’s rookie season. Even though his stats weren’t that crazy and he was only playing 15 minutes a game, he still had the mentality that’s he’s gonna be great.
Pre-frobe kobe
Frobe was awesome!
R.I.P. Kobe Bryant.
The greatest of All Time 🏀 R.I.P Kobe 💜💛
THE GOAT
he has played in the league as long as i live... crazy.
Same here bro! It's crazy that Kobe's NBA career is as old as I am.
Now is dead
He was like a puppy! All this energy, but not really completely harnessed. The way he evolved his game is what made him a legend. I can’t believe he’s gone. RIP Kobe.
HAPPY 35th BIRTHDAY KOBE! My favorite athlete since I was a kid. Still got some years to go. I will watch as much as I can. Hopefully I'll see the game where you pass Jordan on the all time scoring list.
He did it
Re-watching this after the news. Rest in Peace Gigi and Kobe! :(
I just landed his Mitchell and Ness authentic Yellow 96 jersey on eBay for only $220. The biggest baller move I ever made. Love Kobe since childhood, the man was just amazing to watch on the court. I always tuned in for Lakers games even if they played against bad teams, never took a Kobe game for granted. R.I.P legend
😭💛💜
Thank you NBA for uploading all of Kobe Bryant's highlights from his career!
It’s crazy Kobe started playing at 1996 when I was born and retired a year after I graduated high school.. he was my life R.I.P KOBE
His defense was ELITE when he was a rookie.. good lord, momma there goes that man.
average/good but not elite, it was his rookie year... He lacked experience about how to defend pick and rolls, guarding stronger players or off ball defense (against NBA pors) and he gambled for steals..
@@albertoo428 HATER FUCK OUTTA HERE AND IT WAS ELITE.
Kobe has come a long way. From an acrobatic finisher all the way to one of the skillest player the NBA has ever seen. Gonna be a sad day when he finally retires.
Appreciate the greats.
"both changed the game, came through and made a lane whos to say that who's better all we know they ain't the same! " - J.Cole
That kid is very talented and the future is all his. Am I the only who sees a young M.Jordan in him? Good luck Kobe!
I miss my dude. He should be with family right now; Gigi too... Tragedy. Breaks my heart every day 💔
He showed his talents in his rookie year.
Happy Birthday Mamba! 18 years old, and still a BEAST in your rookie year. Come back strong this year, sure you will.
#5, just like MJ omg. Even the tongue 👅
copy cat ass Bryant
Kaleal Ennis Let's see you copy that.
BOSSDONMAN i will make a name for myself like lebron
You'll want to copy from some of the greatest ever and utilize what you learned from em to surpass them. Hell, even Jordan got some of his moves from the doctor Julius Erving.
I'm stuck in a never ending loop of NBA highlights now...
thus, a legend was born.
Kobe Overload , im lovin it !
2nd best player ever and no LBJ is not #1
Lbj is #1
Geoff Williams yup, good ol' Linden Baines Johnson.
juffurey the best to ever play
Brian scalabrine
KWAME BROWN
He was only a Rookie and he has been making all this effect to the people, he's a legend
Forever in our hearts. Mamba lives.
Look at the confidence he has when he dunked. That is special there.
After all these years he is still a class A player... So much respect for this man :)
I watched you play in your rookie season and I could see u were going 2 be a problem in the NBA. I wished the 76ers had drafted u being u were from Philly. A lot of us in Philadelphia loved u. I loved the way u handled yourself on & off the court and u had a killer instinct that I always admired.
Rest Well 2 ALL the lives on board!!😭
the one thing most people forget is how athletic this guy was
And still is...
HBD Vino! I love those old Laker jerseys.
Where it all began. Rest In Peace Black Mamba😞.
Just the beginning of a Hall of Fame Career, Kobe Bryant, RIP 😭, respect 💪💖🤛💯.
could have sworn that was Michael getting that dunk lol 1:42 to 1:46
1:43...
Byron Scott right there. Kobe Bryant playing with his coach..
PLAYING with his coach
PLAYING
is that not like almost freaky incredible
kobe has been selected to 1st TEAM all defense 9 times in his career. 9 times! More than defenders like dennis rodman and scottie pippen that is tied for the most all time along with Michael Jordan, kg, and the glove gary payton. This is what makes Kobe Jordan 2.0. and no doubt a top 5 player of all time if not top 2.
Top 10
That elevation at 1:23 though. Amazing.
Ahh yes. Back when we thought the next big thing was Iverson.
R.I.P. Kobe Bryant.
RIP Kobe, one of the greatest
happy bday to the goat! his rookie season top 10 is better than some players career top 10.
That following year 13 teams fired their GM's for passing this kid up on the 96 draft.
And the Charlotte Hornets GM traded him to the Lakers for...Vlade Divac, lol. :)
GOAT
R.I.P. Kobe Bryant.
I'm a HUGE LeBron fan but it is gonna be heart breaking when he leaves! To me Kobe in his prime was better than LeBron himself now. The man is a legend and deserves respect. Stay around as much longer as you can Kobe!
It's amazing seeing this video, and then his highlights from the current season.
Most of his plays were defense turned into offense amazing
The best player and a beast finisher
I came here just to honor Kobe by watching once again the dunk on number 3, my first memory of this legend. Thanks Kobe.
RIP LEGEND! WE WILL MISS YOU!💜
Kobe the reason I started playing bball, fly high Black Mamba ✊🏽
Kobe bryant is my most favorite basketball player ever. He is in my opinion the best player of HIS era. Mike Jordan was the best of his era. Lebron James is the best player of this era. Kobe will never be better then Jordan for the fact the Jordan did it first. Jordan was the first one to be a proficient scorer and team leader with that impact. However I do think Kobe will go down ss the second best SG to ever play in with my bias id say second d best ever. No matter what Lebron does he will never match that of Kobe or Jordan because he didnt play in their league. Meaning he didnt play in a league where fouls were called for every damn thing. Kobe has proved time and time again that he doesnt give up he doesnt cave in and so did Jordan. I feel that lebron hasnt proved those things he hasnt done the things that kb and mj did and continue to do. Kobe at his age is STILL hanging in with todays stars as if he was their age. Given his injuries now some may make the arguement he shoots too much but what about Harden? Kobe is sheer talent that cant be matched by anybody in this league.
When you watch Kobe and Lebron play its obvious who is better. Lebron whines about a foul, Kobe hits a game winner.
+Jason Gaudreau LeBron is usually correct though. I think he is a smarter player than Kobe.
+jpta162 no I would disagree because if you look at some of the plays kobe does it replicates the great MJ kobe studied on him and thats one of the reasons he is so great
SO COOL👍🏻 to Watch TOP10 ROOKIE Season Brother
Looks exactly like young jordan.
Throwing crushed paper in the trash can while saying Kobe will never be the same..
R.I.P Kobe Bryant
Its crazy how he was 18 in the nba!
R.I.P🌹 Mamba😓
Happy birthday kobe!! 35years old and still can do all that
Man imagine where he'd be now on the all time scorers list if he would've started his rookie season.
This man was fresh outta highschool playing like this.
Rest In Peace Kobe 😥
yea but thats another thing too hes still young so leadership i think will come with time. Im glad to see a smart Kobe fan. :)
Rest In Peace Kobe!
Forever in my heart mamba
What about those commentators?! Damn that Stu Lantz has put in some years.
thank you :)
R.I.P Kobe 💛💜😢😢
Who the hell cant dribble between their legs?
LOL XD
Your mom can't
LOL!
literally my first thought after this video... lol good comment.
...Little kids?
Kobe is one of the best players I know
The thing of it is, Kobe wasn't even the HS Player of the Year the summer he declared. lmao.
That distinct honor goes to one TIM THOMAS - who had a decent enough career and was a very good player in his own right.
But the fact that he was the POY over Kobe, and was going to go to school when Kobe wasn't, everyone expected him to be better than Kobe hands-down but Kobe didn't really become "Kobe Bryant" to the professional basketball world until later, and more importantly, nobody knew the manic work ethic Kobe had.
I vividly remember sitting on the shitter my Junior year of High School reading the PUNKS section in SLAM about this skinny Jordan-esque player who was gonna skip college and thinking "mmmm, he's not a big guy so he'll last MAYBE 5 years".
Mind you, 1994-1996 might have well been called "Looking For the next Jordan" Era. There were some who were close - Grant Hill, Stackhouse - and then there were those who are just not - Harold Minor.
So at the time, people were sick of the "next Jordan" mantra the League was force-feeding and any time a player was described as "Jordan-esque" it usually meant "above-average athleticism and a low-cut haircut/bald head" and people were sick of the fools gold, so they shied away from those types of players...
and then Kobe got drafted... And then I watched @2:07 happen real time and thought "...yeah. OK. I was SUPER wrong" lol.
The End lol
Damn.. Happy Birthday Kobee, he is a Beast!!
The day kobe retires will be a hard day for the nba he has really made a name for himself ever since he was drafted
Happy birthday kobe, the black mamba will live in basketball history forever.
Kobe es una leyenda
I miss him every single day
Greatness is in this video
Rest In Peace Idol KOBE ! 😢😢😢🙏🙏🙏
In a Underrated Historical Sense Kobe Might Be One of the Greatest 'IN-Game" Dunkers of AllTime.
+FGAlele wtf , u need to watch vince carters higlights with the raptors lmao greald green and lebron are better ingame dunkers too
+Kawhi Duncan leBron is not a good in-game dunker... his dunks are rarely on defenders. Vince is good, but Gerald Green - athletic yes, but better than Kobe? not even close. Kobe has dunked all over Duncan, Yao, Shaq, Dwight, Vlade Divac, Kevin Garnett, basically the entire league lol. And in his 17th year, he destroyed the bk nets' double-team with a center?? lmao it's not even close
RydahReborn yeah I agree when it comes to dunking on people kobe is better than gerald but lebron has great dunks on people too and dwyane wade might have two of the greatest posters I've ever seen lol on perkins and varejao but I still think vince is the best, he dunked on alot of good shotblockers too and he is the greatest dunker overall
I wasn't even born by that time. Kobe's too sick!
I think Kobe will go down to be one of the greatest
They're both great players. Let's just appreciate greatness and enjoy basketball.
Number 10 will forever be missed.
He passed the ball.
a moment of silence please.
The cross & slam vs Philly was serious !!! That’s my #1
Like hell he does!
2021, anybody watching?
GOD GIVE US BACK KOBE BRYANT AND WILL GIVE U NACHO ALDEGUER !!!
HAPPY BDAY KOBEEEEEEEEE
R.I.P. Kobe
holy shit so much top tens to watch
one thing is for sure, he pioneered that between the legs dunk
it dont matter i could care less weather he was good his rookie year or not. What matters is what he has done from that point till now !
Kobe sucked in his rookie year and was considered a bust for a lottery. It's amazing how fast one can change.
U dumb as tuck these are his rookie year highlights stupid
Ibrahima Welle So? He was a bench player, averaging 7 points a game on terrible shooting.
He was like 17 or 18 coming straight outta High School playing in a difficult era unlike the one we see now a days....so what u expect?? U can say what u want but he didn't't suck all these highlights u watched date from his first year in the NBA u think these moves are easy especially for a 17 or 18 year old rookie.he did better than a lot of the guys he was drafted with
Ibrahima Welle No, he didn't. He did worse than almost every player drafted in the top 15 that year.
Ibrahima Welle You need to do some fact checking, he had a poor rookie season
Kobe enters the NBA
RIP KOBE THE OG
Kobe 🐐 🐐🐐
