    8 minutes, No words.
Yet a story was told somehow.
This is why metal is the closest to classical music.
Beethoven's 5th symphony has no words. Yet 220 years later it is still instantly recognisable.

Metal is classical music with guitars. You can't be metal without the complexity.

@@ST1973 Heh, to a degree maybe, but no - there's classical musical theory running through this, and a lot of the rest of their work at this time - this is what Cliff brought to the band. His knowledge elevated these works into what could be considered a form of modern classical music. Which was why he was such a loss to the band. He did manage to impart of lot of that musical theory to the others though, and they worked through it like champs and were able to continue.

The basist Cliff Burton is behind this song. He was the musical brains of the early Metallica, and super virtuous on bass guitar. He died just so young in bus accident during their tour. Such a tragedy.
I really recommend to watch his bass solo from their first album, Anasthesia (Pulling teeth). And preferably the live version from Chicago 1983, to see him in action. He turned the bass into solo instrument in a totally new way, and is still concidered on of the bass legends.
The quality of that live film is very low in todays standards, but still you can see his talents. Really recommend to watch for the experience.
And btw, thanks for these reactions, really pleasure to watch. Keep on the Metallica journey!

Absolutely this. Whenever I see someone react to this song, and I see that look of bafflement settle over their face as the bass solo kicks in, I’m IMMEDIATELY taken back to my first listen, which was on one of those big ‘ghetto blaster’ dual-cassette boomboxes in this little shed that my mate Jeff eventually insulated, installed a couch and a loft bed within along with a TV and VCR, and more or less moved into at 15 or 16. He and I and 2 or 3 mutual friends used to play guitar, get drunk, and get high in there for whole weekends at a stretch.
The point is, though, I remember well clearly hearing that bass solo, turning my head very slightly to the side, and asked, “Who just played that solo?”
      “That was Cliff.”
“What, you mean that overdubbed, harmonised lead solo?”
      “That’s the one.”
“Can a bass guitar do that?”
“Clearly; we just heard one do it.”
“Fucking hell. Can we run the tape back?”
      Etc.

If you listen to any more of the ...And Justine For All songs, you need to listen to them with the bass. Back in '88, when Jason Newstead first joined the band after Cliff's passing, as part of Jason's "initiation", Lars told the mixer to turn the bass all the way down and the final product had no bass in the entire album. Not in vinyl or CD. When you hear the bass in Blackened compared to no bass, it's night and day.

Fun fact, Mollyboy, the Orion droning intro is just bass and drums - no guitars. Cliff Burton, the legend, RIP. So cool to watch you appreciate metal; and thrash metal, specifically. Thrash is metal influenced by Black Sabbath (the godfathers!) and the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, plus punk rock.
There were songs that were proto-thrash in the late 70’s and early 80’s, but, arguably, the general consensus is that the first proper thrash album was Metallica’s ‘83 debut, Kill ‘Em All.
The aggression, intensity, and multiple movements (like in classical music) within thrash metal make it not only visceral and emotional, but intellectual and pensive as well. To watch you experience that and understand its complexity is cool, man. It hit me the first time i heard this stuff just like it hits you. Your love of music makes your channel a pleasure to watch. Keep it up, little bruv.

Great tune, great reaction! I remember when I was in high school (in the 90's) my Art Class took a trip to the Museum Of Fine Arts Houston, we were told ahead of time there would be a Walkman, mobile cassette tape player with headphones, that had a tape that curates the artwork. So I packed a lunch and a joint plus a Metal Instrumental tape I put together that of course included ORION. So when we got there I peeled off from the class, walked down the street, Burned Down, went back into the Museum, got my Walkman, put in my own tape of Metal Instrumentals and just strolled around, high, rocking out and LOVING all the amazing works of ART, including the ones I was listening to!

When you said, “what am I hearing” that was the same reaction the in the world of metal. Brilliant iconic piece of music. Please react to ‘To Live is To Die’ by Metallica. Also an instrumental dedicated to their bassist Cliff Burton who tragically died. The song represents the different stages of grief.

A good string of Metallica to listen to, on your own time, would be the S&M album, disc 1, tracks 1 through 3. Ecstasy of Gold, Call of Ktulu, and Master of Puppets. All in one string 😁

Metallica was the main reason I was walking around town with a pair of headphones on and a blissed out expression in the late 90’s.

Welcome to the Metallica family! your in for a treat. To my mind, they are the most versatile band ever, and the most creative and technical as well. I don’t mean they are the most technical ever, I just mean they’re in the conversation for being extremely technical and they’re also in the conversation for creativity. I haven’t heard a band that’s had both of these traits at a high-level and for such a prolonged period of time.
I was lucky that I found them in 1990 when I was in high school. Going out into my car, putting my seat back, popping an album in, and closing my eyes and just listened and absorbed all of their music. They definitely save my life.
