Kurt this card looked similar in condition to the Joe Dimaggio you submerged in card spray. Why did you choose to submerge the DiMaggio and only dab the Ruth? Please tell us what made you make that choice so we can learn from it. Thanks dude. Great channel.
Thank you, you could definitely do that to this card too. But I like to show different demonstrations of different possibilities. Some collectors actually enjoy the age/patina but they want to get the creases to reduce. So if you wanna clean the whole card, remove the dirt, you can soak it. If that’s not your thing and you just wanna move remove some wrinkles you can do that too.
@@kurtscardcare Thanks for the response Kurt. Many years ago my basement got flooded and soaked a box of my vintage paper cards. When they dried out they had a concave shape and a scaly, ridged texture rather than a smooth surface. The back of the cards were chalky. I understand how you got the DiMaggio card to maintain it's original shape while drying but how did you avoid the issues I experienced with the surface and back of my cards?

Why didn't you submerge the card entirely in a plate of your spray and then dry it? Wouldn't the crease go away using this method? Thanks.
Great question John, it would be a great card to do a complete soak. I just try to show a few options. Sometimes you can restore the whole card by soaking it other times if the card looks over all good, you can just work on the crease.
In your Kaline/Aaron video you didn’t use the mats in the drying process. Was there something different about this card that required the mats for drying? Trying to understand if there’s a time to do the mats and not do the mats for drying.
That’s a great observation. If you’re just doing a little bit of moisture work, it dries pretty quick, but if you’re gonna get the entire surface area moist, I would suggest the mats because you don’t want it to curl, and it takes longer to dry.
Hey. Did you get you grade back? I have the same Babe in an SGC 1.5. It has a mild crease on the front that might flatten and a back that might clean up.

Are you repeating that process multiple times? Or was this just one session?
Great question. I did two sessions of spray treatment on the surface and back. The whole process took several days.

I haven't been more excited about youtube content like the stuff you're putting out in quite some time! --Thinking of buying the kit and the $21 tool. ---Can you tell me what you imagine this Ruth's grade will be after you're done with the restoration? Also, where are you buying your cards to restore from mostly, ebay? I would pay for a course on how to search for cards to restore. I want to teach my V.A to do it, too, for $5/hr. Best regards!
Hi Chris, thanks so much for the message. If you pick up the kit it comes with a tool so don’t buy an extra one. This card actually went up to a SGC 2. I’m happy with the little improvement. I buy cards online, card shows the normal places. Just look for quality, centering and avoid missing paint. Those are things you can’t do anything with.

Have you ever thought of charging $ to have ppl submit ebay card listing images to you to help them decide if it can be fixed and what potential grade it has after using your kit/techniques (already-slabbed images)? I'd gladly venmo some $ for a quick one-minute glance at a cpl pics. Seems like it could be a good business opportunity and help with kit sales/exposure.
@@chrisgriffin7357 not exactly, but I’m happy to take a look. It’s just hard to come up with any absolutes. If a collector can tell me what is going on and what they see it and what it feels like and can provide me with some solid data I can make a plan. Looking at images is kind of like flipping a coin.
Could you put the card into the humidor to try to get rid of the crease?
Little depressions and smaller stuff you can. Humidity wouldn’t do much to creases. You have to take a more proactive approach.
So do you not need to use the humidor then, just do this process for any indents or creases, light or deep?

Hi Jason, on paper cards with these types of issues I’ll just lightly use a little bit of card spray or if it’s a card that’s super dirty and wrinkled. I’ll just soak the whole card. This works well on cards from the early 1900s through the 1960s.

It’s a blend I make for a variety of card issues. Cleaning surfaces and on certain cards like this. You can do crease/wrinkle removal.
