There is no better example of Brennan’s skills as a DM then seeing how genuinely furiously angry Siobhan is at her fake sister.
I mean kind of, she's been off screen, for lack of a better term, most of the story so far feels like this anger is more of a character choice from the player.
Or, and hear me out, it's also a credit to Siobhan's skills as a comic actor.

That's like saying the driver is good because the cars aren't running straight into him. He barely got to do anything with Aerywn, but not gonna lie, the way he made her "cut loose" was so fucking awesome and hilarious. Nobody expected that and it was so great.

The phrase "kung-fu philosopher ghosts" would be the absolute highlight of any other D&D podcast but in this one it's just one more bit of delicious flavour. They mentioned that a book was key to the school's anti summoning defenses. Did Adiane's sister get her kicked out of school on purpose to get her into the adventure school and then tell her to steal the restricted section book to disarm the defenses?
My first thought when I heard that too! If that was actual foreshadowing from episode 1 and not implanted by Brennan later that is some damn good writing.

proper world building, if attention is paid to details, has all the clues there for multiple adventures... a full campaign worth... and those clues may be sitting there in plain sight for YEARS.
Writing is a part of world building... but certainly not all of it. world building isnt just "fleshing out an environment" ...it about making a world where things are *happening* and observant players can affect them... on the tiniest of clues.
its allowing players to walk through a world that, if they paid enough attention (since everything a DM uses as a descriptor without player prompting is important... or they wouldnt say it) they could see clues WAY earlier than being led by the hand to them.
The book... it is, while in the restricted library, the KEY to the school's defenses.
Instead of putting it back, the VP has t taken (not taking charge of t himself) to the principal's office.
That session 1. A FAR more than trivial clue. it is a pivotal campaign plot hinging clue.
Introduced in the first hour.
THAT is pro level epic world building. how paranoid is a player? how much attention are they paying? Most of us... not much. not really. details escape... but thats what its all about.
If you dont think that is world building.. i feel a bit sad for your players if you run table.

Yeah in the cafeteria fight they were dropping like flies. It took only two or three hits to take some of them down. I'm 90% sure Brennan was planning on a few of them dying, an was counting on using that phoenix egg deus ex machina.

@@Miglow Previously he’d been running 3.5 for a long time. I believe this was mentioned in an Adventuring Academy maybe? You can tell sometimes by certain things they get wrong. Things like a Thieves tools check and how many rages Gorgug has at level one.

My favorite running great joke in this series (of which there are many) is when Gorgug gets a low score he thinks some random person is his dad. It kills me every time.

Rewatching this after FH Season 2, I never realized how much this is a character arc for Adaine. Awesome.

- Brian for keeping an eye on Ally's spell usage and especially the spirit guardians
- Ally for having such a fine-tuned healer - that mass healing word was dope
she doesnt need to prep mass healing it comes with the life domain. as for the guardians, whenever she takes damage she should have rolled for concentration, the spell is op because they r using it wrong

I love that Fabian went insane with fear, dives his flaming bike into the pool, and just fucking crits on his first action in 3 turns. It didn't lead to much, but Fabian is the best. He's come a long way from tripping over lunch tables.

i’m many years late to this, but can we talk about the insane amount of set up - pay off and forshadowing in this series? not only from brennan since he’s the only one that can really plan that type of stuff, but from the players too. Adaine finally landing a punch on her sister after missing the first few times in the very first episode is actually some shit straight from a real life T.V show, with a team of writers, this just happened and i’m so obsessed
it’s well and truly so satisfying how they pay off the little things in this series (and even further, how s2 pays off so many random bits of lore that get mentioned in this season)
The idea of Karl Marx shouting from the critique of the gotha program and decking some elementals is pretty badass ngl

The synergize really horribly. Its almost an anti synergy. You CAN do it, but it inly really works on a dedicated grappler build or really specific combat builds focused on precasting nonconcentration combat buffs
@@jakegoodrich6520 I mean, I love their game but they also run around with AC 12 , basically ignore the existence of mage armor or shield and the concept of concentration, I think cool style over synergy is very much how this group rolls :-D
