Animal Crossing New Horizons has become one of my favourite video games of all time, especially because of all of the love, care and attention to detail put into the game. This is a game full of amazing details, many of which are hard to spot. However, thanks to a huge base of players who love to seek out even the tiniest of details, I’ve decided to create a video going 40 amazing small details that you should know about in Animal Crossing New Horizons.

A literal small detail I’ve noticed is the crystal ball in the fortune-telling set has a reflection of the room if you place it inside
my favourite little detail i found out just recently was that the starry wall wallpaper (obtained by diy from celeste) glows in the dark! when you have the lights on and then turn them off, the stars on the wall paper wont glow right away... it takes time to glow just like those glow in the dark stars everyone used to put on their ceilings as kids!
The skull wallpaper does too!
The aurora wall does too! I noticed this when I turned my bedroom lights off one time. The look is really cool!

Villagers don't just sniff flowers, they will sniff food items like the soup kettles and rice cookers
They love to click on them too and get excited when it does a thing

They also warm their hands around fires or heaters

When villagers interact with the pirate cannon they do a shocked reaction when it goes off
36. There’s another reason why this house has a special detail. Flamingoes are social birds and become depressed when isolated from their own kind. The idea here is having them so that Flora doesn’t feel lonely at home. It’s one of my favorite AC details that mimics real life.

The yellow birds on the bulletin board indicate there’s a message. The more birds perched, the more unread messages you have on the board

Another one I discovered recently: when someone visits your island or when you are returning from another island, you can see a vapor trail in the sky !

In addition to barefeet sounding different from shoes, different shoes have different sounds. The Kimono sandals are the best to hear this with, but boots sound a bit different from shoes, and sandals sound different from shoes. Which is such a nice touch!
some more ! when villagers walk on the beach they leave footprints based on their animal feet, the sand changes colour in season too and when you fly to another person's island/they fly to yours, a plane trail is left in the sky ! also, the snowflakes make twinkling noises if you stand near them which is super cute
fauna is just like "why u sniffing that tree...?"

When I saw their breath in cild air as they ran around town and the glistening snow on the ground at night... Omg this game is so immersive

A small detail I've never seen mentioned. In the fossil section of the museum with all of the villager silhouettes, if you stand at the end of the line, a light lights you up, showing that you are the end of the evolution or something
Here's one that i noticed (but not really confirmed), the potted flower at Isabelles counter actually changes overtime. I remember it being a pink cosmos but currently it's a blue pansy. I'm honestly not sure how it works but it's pretty cool to know that Isabelle takes care of all kinds of flowers too
41: every now and then in the loading screen’s icon, a fish will pop out of the water!
If you leave an old tire outside then a fly flys around the tire
The same thing happens with rotten turnips, except that they attract ants instead

I think one of my favorite small details is that islands have different style grass. Circles, Squares, and Triangles
About the frog villager thing, I really wish they did it with alligators too. In fact why don’t we have dialogue made for specific animals rather than just personality? It would of really help with how repetitive the dialogue is with these villagers.
I like that bird characters leave bird footprints in the sand
If you dress up as a frog, you can unlock some secret dialogue when talking to a frog villager!
This might work with other species but idk

This game just gets cuter and cuter the longer you look at it! It’s freaking art
One of the things I really like and enjoy is the fact that the walking and running sounds your villager makes are also different depending on what kinds of shoes you wear! It's so subtle but really nice because it makes the experience that much more enjoyable for me.
I must be an EXTREMELY observant because I'm aware of everything mentioned in the video...

7:10 it’s so weird to see realistic fish in a cartoon game
I love videos like this. Also, I think the flowers on the desk in Resident Services changes with the season. Mine had pink cosmos in summer and now I have blue pansies.
Regarding the footprints, they change appearance depending on what footwear you have on (at least, in New Leaf they do, so I'd assume they do for New horizons too). Bare feet leave more detailed footprints. And different animal species leave distinct footprints as well
I was very impressed to see that the thanksgiving table cloth and fireplace mantle cloth moved when the fan was on nearby.
thing i love and is super useful: you can use your villagers workbenches in their houses.

I remember seeing nearly all these small details and I was just in awe especially Tom nook and Isabelle doing different things
16. the realistic lighting only works indoors, outdoors the lighting is simple. I guess so the game doesn't have performance issues.
28. Timmy and Tommy in Halloween hats could be them dressed as Tom and Red.
Another tiny detail is that the suspension bridge swings slightly whenever someone walks on it
Im surprised no one mentioned that the clocks in the game actually work! They all show the real time!

YES! When I stream or record, I try to point these things out! Rain sounds different on the different kinds of roofs and when I noticed this, I sat listening to it! I adore how the Able Sister's shop sign squeaks if windy enough. The light from your phone lighting up your face when darker out....I just love all the little things. When they had rain on the windows when I first played I got stupid excited 😆 btw love your puns and humor. Very wholesome 💕
you know how the player character is never standing totally still, they’re always kind of swaying or bouncing? recently i looked a bit closer and realized that they’re bouncing on the balls of their feet-their heels come off the ground just a tiny bit with each bounce. makes my feet hurt just thinking about it
I love the seasonal changes! I didn't notice the waves crashing against the rocks like that. It's all of these little touches that make the game so charming!
another small detail that i love is that sometimes u can pop balloons with ur net if ur on a cliff!! i did it once on accident and i was SHOCKED
Me owning stitches and knowing these facts about him just makes me love him more. :)

#40 made me think that, because Nat and Chip aren't in charge of the tourneys any longer, it would be cool if they were "employees" at the museum. They would be in their respective areas "doing work" (aka, just wandering around/checking on things). It would bring them back in the game and make the island feel more populated.
At around 6 minutes, does your character have heterochromia, or is it just the lighting? Also, give Eugene new glasses for a "Milhouse" effect.

I wish you could actually give your character heterochromia though
Here are a few things I noticed:
-Sometimes your villagers whistle your town tune
-When placing a football fish, when you try to turn on the light in its tank the little glowy thingy on its head turn on instead
-If you play new horizons on a special edition ACNH switch, Nintendo sends you a ACNH switch in the game (well, that’s what happened to me)
-Isabelle’s bell jingles
-Timmy and Tommy’s voices are different
-If you turn on a TV, sometimes K.K. Music plays in the background of the show
I wish the animals would dress warmer in the winter months even when it’s not snowing. It drives me crazy to see them change from a coat and hat to a tank top as soon as it stops snowing. It makes no sense

2:50 The sound your footsteps make doesn't just change if you're barefoot. It also sounds different if you're wearing wooden shoes like zori or kimono sandals.
What I find funny about the frog and rain thing is I have Ribbot and he makes remarks about not needing an umbrella and I just look at him and think...dude you are a robot...
I've also noticed that the sound for walking doesn't just change if you are barefoot, but depending on what material your footwear is made of and what you are walking on. For example, wearing wooden shoes on stone for example makes a different sound than classic sneakers would.
It also changes depending on what tools you are holding. For example holding the shovel while running makes a little metallic sound, while the watering can makes a little water swapping sound. Its sooo cute.
Your villagers not only sniff flowers, but they will also spray plant furniture in your island.
The sound of your footsteps and your footprints on the beach also depend on the type of shoes you are wearing!
I love all the little details in the game. Makes it more immersive even though the details are really subtle.
Another detail:
If you interact with the sea butterfly when its placed down, it opens it's head thingie like a butterfly :')
I know it looks creepy
The best wheels example is the tricycle - when you push/pull this item not only do the wheels move but the pedals do as well! And you can hear a plastic-y trike sound.
I already now all of that stuff play at 7:00 PM and go to your museum and go to bugs and look at your big tree

Isabelle has a fan in the back of her side of resident services. It won’t do anything during fall, spring, and winter, but on June 1st it begins blowing.
There is also a hidden bug in the museum on a wall... 😉
I think it is absolutely adorable when a villager sits on the bench and pulls out a sandwich to eat. It's so cute!!
ESPECIALLY when the squirrels do it! Their little tails!

I just walked by my town square and saw Caroline singing like she does often, but Lopez and Judy actually sat down on the floor in front of her, listing T-T I love the villager interactions.
Also Reneigh had a fight with Olivia while I was popping a baloon so I didn't listen but I still could see the reactions they made and talk to a very angry Reneigh afterwards and calm her down. They feel so real imo. The repetitive dialogue mainly happens to me during events ( and I have two snootys and two normals)
If you place something that emits light while the mermaid wallpaper is up, it only illuminates the pillars and shell border thing. Also, you can only see the fish and corals on it when the lights are off.

Number 11. Depending on which shoes you have on it also makes different sounds. For example pumps, sneakers and sandles
I found that when Isabelle is making her announcements, you can see a fax machine on the left that looks like a gamecube controller! Also if you have a fountain, it'll shoot water in the air every time the clock hits the next hour

when it's raining, your footsteps will also make little splashes. they're especially cuter when running by the beach.
If you increase the light in your house if you go outside the windows will reflect the setting you have it to and have light or no light shining through them, just thought that was a cool little detail
I love when you bounce a beach ball it sounds exactly like one & all the balls you can bounce have individual realistic sounds.
Another small detail that idk if its in other ac games but when a gift balloon floats by it makes a noise! 🎁 🎈 same with shooting stars they also make a noise to alert you that its there 🌠
+ When you hit the instruments with and axe or a shovel, they actually make a weird sound that's different from the sounds made from buildings or rocks
i also noticed that if you change your island theme, it'll become the windchime when you enter islander houses and shops
Furniture items make different noises when you push them. If you push an item with wheels it makes a different noise depending on if you pushing in the direction of the wheels or perpendicular to them
7:34 also, the villager species like birds, dogs, wolves, bears and cats will leave little pawprints on the sand. The bird villagers and NPCs like Gulliver will leave Y-shaped footprints that resemble bird feet and the horse villagers (and Saharah) will leave little hoofprints. And if you wear the paw slippers you'll leave little pawprints too. It's such a nice little detail. Some other cool details:
-If you ring the Judge's Bell item while you have the Ringside Seating wallpaper, the animated crowd will go wild, the cameras will start flashing and you can hear audible cheering
-When you return from a flight to another island or a visitor leaves your island, you'll see a plane contrail in the sky.
-On the wallpapers with blinds, you can open and close the blinds
-The stag beetles on the tree in the museum will actually get into a fight
-There are a few lighted panels you can activate by standing on them in the museum
-You can interact with the T-Rex and Spinosaurus fossils to make them open and close their jaws. I don't know if this works on the specimens inside the museum or not, but I know it works on ones displayed outside.
-Seaweed and the Horseshoe Crab are two creatures, much like the turtles, that aren't placed in an aquarium or container. They makes for good beach decorations and the horseshoe crab will flip upside down and curl up if you interact with it.
-If you leave speakers out playing music, villagers will eventually 'learn' those songs and then will randomly sing them. My villagers are constantly singing Wandering because I have that theme playing on my nature trail
-If you place the little handheld Pinwheel item from the Fireworks festival, it'll spin in the breeze.
-NPCs like Orville, Nook and Isabelle will react to some reactions. If you use the cheerful reaction, they'll often react in kind. If you use the shocked reaction, they'll also act shocked and if you applaud, they'll either applaud along with you or blush and shyly rub the back of their head, which is adorable.
Villagers do seem to prefer sitting on low the ground items with the moat popular being the wooden block stool. They also seem to love gathering by a bonfire in winter or at least this was very noticeable when it was winter on my SH island.

Funny I have Flora and her house totally doesn't look like that. Maybe it's cause she moved into one of the houses I was asked by Tom Nook to build in the first wave of expansion?
Also I think Blathers doesn't wear any of the special hats for holidays actually. He does still acknowledge holidays though (like he wished me Happy New Year on New Year's).
If you listen VERY closely when holding a shovel and walking, you can actually hear it clanking around
You should do a video where you count down your favorite villager homes!
You can also change Eugene’s glasses and it’s horrifying, he literally just has black dots for eyes
