That Plaid is a rocket. I assumed the 32% SOC would slow it down, I was wrong.
It did slow it down from 9.25@150mph+ at 90% SOC. I’m guessing you meant didn’t slow it down much.
Lying is a consistent Demon theme.
Note: The Plaid’s usual 1/4 mile Roll Race ET has been 8.1 seconds when over 80% charge. (And our best Drag ET: 9.15 @ 152MPH)
What's the highest SoC you've done a drag at? Do you know where the top performance plateau starts?
@@Infinion We’ve done Showtime (1/8th mile) at 98% and BMP (1/4) at 96%. We’ve found that runs over 85% give similar ETs, sometimes even down to 75%. Two weeks ago, we arrived at BMP with 94% and made six runs using 20%, leaving with 74%. The last run was faster than the first, and all were within 0.04. Full stats…
Run#: ET, MPH, 60-ft, Reaction, Mode, State of Charge
1. 9.25, 150.05, 1.49, 0.138, Launch Mode, 94%
2. 9.26, 150.31, 1.51, (Gave Hit), Launch Mode, 90%
3. 9.22, 149.80, 1.46, 0.263 (Pro Tree), Launch Mode, 86%
4. 9.23, 150.05, 1.48, 0.241 (Pro Tree), Launch Mode, 83%
5. 9.22, 149.63, 1.47, (Gave Hit), Launch Mode, 80%
6. 9.24, 149.27, 1.45, 0.286 (Pro Tree), Launch Mode, 77% (ended at 74%)
fantastic data, thanks @@TeslaPlaidChannel ! The cells work over quite a wide margin at peak motor-inverter performance then, nice to hear you don't need to worry about losing performance anywhere above 74%! This car takes the worry out of everything lol.
LMAOOOO at the "stat" stickers. Reminds me of The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift quote.... "WOW, you can read the brochure"
Not only that, but he even has "fake" stats up there lol. As Andrew and Lue said, no stock Demon will do 9.6s 1/4 mile
@@ATICrossXno stock demon has ever done what it claims. Just like the new dodge demon 170 is just more fake numbers claimed by dodge. Paying the NHRA to say those things don't mean it's real until you see it.
Cant wail to see the Sebring video
Amazing ... Now you understood and let the cameras on at display !!! amazing improvement !
I agree, never have seen a stock demon go a 9.6. I think there was one that went 9.5's but used 100 octane fuel.
The demon can actually detect the octane in the gas, those hp and times are on race gas. Much slower hp and times on pump
Cringe at the stat stickers 😬 Not a surprise though, Dodge’s numbers can usually only be achieved with a pipe dream and the absolute perfect conditions. Or if the owner modifies it…
Dodge lies about there numbers to SELL the car. Just like the new dodge demon 170.... it definitely ain't no 8.9 sec car.
OK that was a pretty clear win for Plaid over the Demon. I have to remember that you've lightened your car, so it's a hair quicker than stock. I'm guessing, stock-to-stock, that it would be up to the reaction time from the dig.
Still demonstrates that ICE cars are really inefficient at getting power down - conditions have to be perfect for them to perform well. Electric makes it so easy.
From a dig, stock-to-stock, is an 8-car length gap. Our Plaid ran consecutive 9.20s before we removed the back seats. (Do Demons even have backseats?) This stock Demon runs 10.0 from a dig, as shown in the video…
8 tenths of a second is a huge 8-car-length gap 👍
They say 1/10 of a second per 100lbs removed.
Wouldn’t even be remotely close demons trap far less and et is slower . No stock demon has ever run the 9.65 dodge claimed .
@@Raymund-Swales Agree. We removed maybe 170 pounds and went from high 9.20s to a mid 9.10 👍
Demon is a bit better at densifying the oxygen entering the intake by running the AC refrigerant loop through the intercooler, but I think more than that, all ICE cars should come with waste heat recovery into a supplementary sterling engine or turbine on an organic rankine cycle and send the power to the drivetrain through a differential. You'd be taking the heat from the exhaust and turning 30% of it back into power just like gas fire power plants have for decades, but with compact components.
That demon has just been EXORCISED!
You would still win at 32% SOC if you dig race your Plaid vs demon roll racing 🤭
👍 For sure, and our higher trap speed (142.9 vs 131.3 MPH) and clear "pull" across the entire track shows that. We'd expect to run a 9.6 to 9.7 at that low state of charge (we ran 9.65 once before at 40%, and that wasbefore we removed the rear seats). And those watching Lue's livestream know that the Demon didn't run better than 10.0 all night...
Those poor ICE cars... you beat them one after another. They don't stand a chance. Even with the rolling start.
I can’t wait to see the plaid on a true race circuit Sebring is awesome. Real test for any car/driver.
Wow there is still a Demon around that is not in the junk yard? Crazy.
Nice🔥🔥🤟🏾
Drew?!!...32% SOC?...hmmm...late night party? LOL
Nah, I was coming over from Sebring and there was no place to charge in-between...
Can't wait to hear about racing at Sebring. I've wanted to run there, but very concerned with the stock brakes overheating. Did you have any issues?
Stock pads and old fluid might give you some fade/long pedal issues. More than anything, nut and bolt your car really well. (Suspension, battery and exhaust especially) Take everything out of the truck, cubby holes, glove box, etc. When I was turning wrenches on track/race cars I saw more things break and bend at Sebring than all the other tracks combined. Make sure your radiator fans work well too. I’ve never been to Sebring when it wasn’t hotter than the surface of the sun….even in January.
Demon, ohhhhhh real scary! 😂 ⚡️🚗
Stats on the window. LOL.
Did he add that to his stats on his window? Lol
Man I need to trade my model 3 performance in for a plaid at some point.
trade it in for a car with combustion engine, clown.......
@@kushpaladin Why stop there, get a horse carriage.
@@AllanSustainabilityFan why stop at the horse carriage when I have my own 2 feet?
That electric car must be turbo charged.
Still, the classiest tesla channel out there running real people on real tracks and sharing it for us ALL to see. 👍🏻😎
I can't wait to see when the gen2 tesla roadster drops if you get one?
I bet you'll be the first or one of the first plaids to run against a Lucid air sapphire and a demon 170. 😀
Thanks for the kinds words. 😃 We’ve been offered “free stuff” from various aftermarket companies, including forged wheels and EV add-ons. But we don’t want to go down that road of “plugging” companies. That’s not our brand 👍
@@TeslaPlaidChannel aw come on now man, if you did that you could put some fancy mopar/slopar style stickers on the back windows. 😀
Maybe do a ww2 style wrap in a fighter scheme with kill markings all over it? Use the different brands insignia for souls you've snatched. 😂
I think that it is amazing that the Model S Plaid can run that quickly on low charge. The P90D and earlier performance S Models took a big hit on performance with anything under 80%. I agree that I've never seen a stock Demon match the advertised performance numbers. But pretty minor tweaks can bring it up to match the stats. But if the track prep is poor it spins badly (as do most high powered, RWD cars). One thing though is that the Demon and Hellcat models all run solidly from a dig, and at speed. You see so many heavily modified cars that started life as a normal daily driver, and in hyper race tune they are squirrelly, unstable, and some can be dangerous when racing. As you have seen first hand. 🛻💥
👍🐿️ Oh yes indeed Dean! We've seen some squirrelly Mopars and some broken parts at the starting line 🐿️😃🐿️
He must of been going down hill with a 5ft roll out with a 40mph tail wind that day to hit 9.6 lol
But that’s the thing: He NEVER did 9.60. He took the “Dodge promised” number and put it in his window 🤣
mr andrew , keep them coming. but derogatory uneducated comments designed to put you down by the non scientific community should be deleted.
You’d be surprised at some of the vile stuff we’ve seen. This is not a bathroom wall, so we’re glad we have the ability to take out the trash 👍
Dodge guys will come back and still claim they beat the Plaid. 😂
I noticed that you weren't driving your car at Sebring.
That's right! Professional driver Blake Fuller has far more experience (he's a recognized Champion) and his Plaid is better equipped with Yokohama slicks. He took me for a bunch of laps at a faster lap time than I could achieve...
Any battery degradation so far?
Don’t think so, but we only drive it to the dragstrip. It’s only gone 16K miles in two years. Our other Tesla (2019 S running mid 10s) went down the dragstrip 1001 times and has 44K miles, and is still going strong as our daily driver. No broken parts and no maintenance costs for either other than tires (plus brake pads for one of them)
The fact you have engine noises at the beginning but race with a car that makes no noise is hilarious. So what did you do to your car lately?
We’ve spent more time gutting our Plaid (~3 hours) than the Demon owner spent modifying his car (0 hours).
And that’s the sound of the Tesla passing yet another ICE 👍
Thanks for playing! 🤣🤣🤣
OUR MISTAKE! The Demon owner did spend significant time in his garage making “modifications”…
How long did it take to put those stickers on the windows? 🤔
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That lube tube guy must not have seen that new demon, I hear they go a little faster, like 8's.
None of the new “170s” have ever been to our Florida dragstrips. We would know, we are both out there for every public session…
@@TeslaPlaidChannel there is actually a demon here at the coffee shop this morning. Owner hasn't said whether it is slow or fast, yet
@@TIGERSDFW Demon170? We don’t know if those have been delivered yet, but we look forward to (eventually) seeing one 👍
@@TeslaPlaidChannel apparently the last 170 has already been sold, auctioned off for 700k plus vehicle price. Barrett Jackson. Demonology has some videos with a 2023 demon, beating up on some plaid's.
personally i think to make it even just 1 engine per car. and then see
As we all know from lawnmowers and smaller motorcycles, one cylinder is an engine. I don’t think a one-cylinder-engine Dodge is gonna beat a one-EV-motor Tesla which we also own (it runs 13s). The Demon couldn’t even win with EIGHT ENGINES plus a big 2.7L SUPERCHARGER! 🤣
I think whether a car is "stock" or "modified" is given unreasonably high importance. Unless it's a strict requirement of the race category, who cares and why does it matter?? I recall a Plaid race vs a COPO Camaro with Magnuson supercharger ... the COPO didnt come from the factory with the supercharger, but so what? The Copo was a beast and ran nearly 8 sec flat, IIRC.
IMO, whether a car can "do the grocery shopping" is also irrelevant. If you're going to race as a serious hobby, as opposed to going to drags once a year, then set up a car to be a race car! (budget permitting, of course)
Obvious the demon driver can't drive versus the Tesla plad. Listen to the shifts.
ALL Demon drivers can't shift? (BTW, it's an AUTOMATIC, not a manual.) Here's another Demon altogether, but why ALWAYS the same result? czcams.com/video/P7szhhUfRsY/video.html
Demon 170 will be closer
Closer for sure, but who should we bet on for “best 2 out of 3”? Even the owner of the previous Demon (that we recently raced) said he’d bet on the Plaid vs the Demon170: czcams.com/video/WvjBsic7UX4/video.htmlsi=oEKbXOqLb1TgN18f
Closer but still lose.....
Just knowing this lost by a half sec on a roll at only 32% shows that the demon 170 will lose on a 80% charge from a dig. Both demons are over exaggerated and dodge knows they lied about all the numbers they claimed.
@@TeslaPlaidChannel I've seen plenty of 170 launches and the issue of course is traction. Trying to get those 170s to hook up is impossible on anything other than a slick. If they had a perfect launch I think it should be door to door but that's asking a lot.
@@TeslaPlaidChannel Yeah any ICE will build up too much heat without any great way to get rid of it quickly. After the first run, they'll have built up probably in the tens of kWh worth of thermal mass in the block and fluids. Have you seen many dragstrip visitors using engine chillers? All I've ever seen in my naive internet perusement is racers that cool their blocks with blower fans. By comparison, Tesla is taking full advantage of their compressor coolant loops to keep each component at ideal temps automatically.
How much did you pay the guy to not step on the gas? That was the worst driving ever.
At 5:22 , that’s a professional drag racing videographer talking (not me). Lue has watched tens of thousands of drag races, and knows more about these cars than you do. You are obviously ignorant and misinformed about the Dodge Demon. They run 10s in the best conditions. The Tesla Plaid still runs 9s with only 20% battery.
The better question is: How much did you overpay for your Dodge? $100K over sticker price? 🤣🤣🤣
Consider getting informed before making a comment? That was the worst comment ever.
@@TeslaPlaidChannel so how much did you pay him to get on the gas then let of then get on it again? Or the person you raced was a moron
We’ve got a whole Demon playlist, showing them running slower ETs than the Plaid every time. Over a dozen races! If all of them accepted “payoffs” like you accuse, that would say more about Demon drivers than anything else. (None of them were paid off, obviously, that’s simply how those cars run, even after Stage 2 Modifications and a head start.)
czcams.com/play/PLhSrlyVZnBMriVzFr9HNGbVtIejgctnKX.html&si=f3jYisPUUrIx6WuF
Skill? 🤣 The Demon has an Automatic Transmission! And Launch Control just like the Plaid! 🤣 Point it straight and keep the right foot down. Did you think being *louder* makes it *harder* to drive? 🤣
Actual Drag Racers know how to find traction and how to cut a tree. Yet we aren’t seeing any 0.000 Reaction Times posted on your Channel (we looked). Here’s one of ours: czcams.com/video/rNBlgvR1R8o/video.html
Consider learning about drag racing before talking about “skill”? 🤔
Need no skill to drag race a tesla, just point and shoot
Just like the Demon. Automatic transmission. But in this case, the Tesla driver has the skill as proven with several 0.000 and 0.001 Reaction Times…
@TeslaPlaidChannel the thought the tesla is all wheel drive or am I mistaken. As far as reaction times go they are great, I am not discounting that but the facts remains 4wd vs 2 wd, come on wake up, I could hop in a rimac rivera and beat the plaid all day long even with
His zero reaction time, does that make me a skilled driver, no it just means I have more money to buy a faster car
You forgot the most important part: Then Point and laugh.
