    When I installed mine, I didn't cut the gasket. It seemed to me that it was made to be intact. I installed the skimmer as you have done, without the gasket, and cut out the liner. I then took it apart, put in the gasket in the hole, and attached the skimmer. Easy peasy and no threat of causing a leak on the cut in half gasket.

      @worahr Před 2 lety +1

      because cutting the gasket is completely wrong. I do not know which genius made first video with cutting the gasket, everybody just copied the same procedure. \I/ Pool wall should fit inside that gasket.

      @@worahr It's true that when you install a skimmer on a pool with a sheet metal frame, the dual sided gasket prevents water from coming into contact with the metal sheet border. However, when there's only the liner to pass through like on Intex pool types, this makes no difference, and cutting the gasket does not pose a problem.

    I done this both last year and this year works great do just as he says the only thing that's very important he forgot to tell is the 10 screws the will be too big the skimmer was made for a hard frame pool not a soft pool like he is using that's why you have to cut the gasket in half so you need to go to Home Depot they see a 2 pack for .89 of the same Stainless Steal screws that or a little shorter otherwise it will leak the size you need to get is #12x1

    Nicely done kid!
    quick not note though:
    -gasket should only be one side, both sides will allow to much compression and will eventually form spider cracks in the gasket, and eventually leak...

    Let me clarify something for everybody because I was wondering the same thing about cutting gasket in half. You are nut actually cutting the gasket in half. The gasket come with inner and outer in one piece so you are cutting it apart. When finished you will have 2 pieces. 1 inner and one outer.

  • @bonnieknighten-sutton9276

    I am worried about the liner splitting at the screw holes due to the water pressure. Has this held up for others after install?

  • @larosajc

    This may be a silly question, but since this skimmer is replacing the original skimmer, what did you do with the original intake hole? Did you seal it off somehow?

      Very nice setup. I did everything on the pump/ filter/ cleaner for about $350. It was tough to get that much together but it makes my pool flawless and maitenence free. I plan on getting a larger one if i can as i'm in a larger house now. If I do, ill be sure to attempt a complete mod guide for everyone.

    • @marcibm1
      @marcibm1 Před 10 lety

      You did a nice job with the skimmer. I got my pool from my uncle that ended up getting a real pool so the pool was free. so me spending some money to get it to the point where I really didn't have to do maintenance just like you're saying was worth the money. Also Set and done was like 300.00 which also included the bottom cleaner. That thing works pretty well for 90 bucks. Thanks for sharing and making your videos just like I do. Nice chatting with you.

    Im fixing to install the same skimmer on my 22ft Intex pool and my question is why do you cut the gasket in half...I dont understand that part.

    • @bellerve201
      @bellerve201  Před 10 lety +2

      To prevent having to cut the liner to install it. I place one half on the outside, the other on the inside, and screw it all together then cut it. That makes sure that the liner wont stretch further and tear where the skimmer was

    • @mgamga9476
      @mgamga9476 Před 3 lety

      This makes no sense. If you cut a gasket in half it will leak. What we have here is a failure to communicate. We are misunderstanding something.

    • @jacobecorder
      @jacobecorder Před 3 lety

      You only cut the gasket in half if the pool water level is above the skimmer. This way you can install it then cut the liner. If he cut the liner, then removed the skimmer, then installed the gasket it would not need to be cut.

  • @cnvw974

    Nice video. Not to long and good points!
    You think one could get away with installing higher? Into the gray area for higher water level....I have a 14x42 and thinking of trying to do install higher. It's on 2nd year old and if it failed....well honey..guess we gotta buy the 16ft for kids....lol
    ???? What's your opinion?

    • @bellerve201
      @bellerve201  Před 10 lety

      I would say that installing it in the grey area could cause some water leaks, as there is a pretty large seam right there. A glob of silicone may prevent leaking, but id stay on the safe side. Plus the grey part splits right there for the tubes of the frame.

  • @gebwv84

    Does this this mean your pool level will be lower by a few inches , because it will be even with the bottom of skimmer basket ? Curious, i want to do this also to my intex

  • @MrRcloeffler
    @MrRcloeffler Před 10 lety

    Can you please elaborate on the gasket cutting? Do you place it on the bottom (inside/outside)? Do you use any other sealant? (ie. 3M 5200) As you can tell, I am also very nervous about cutting into my liner. Nothing in the instructions says anything about cutting the gasket.

    • @bellerve201
      @bellerve201  Před 10 lety

      Looking at the side of the gasket, It looks like a "U". The area between the 2 halves of the gasket should be cut right to seperate the halves then clean it up with a sharp blade. One half goes on the outside, the other goes on the inside. Make a sandwich basically and screw everything tight. After it is all secure you can safely cut the liner. The reason for cutting the gasket is to not make the liner weak, because you cant install the gasket without cutting the liner. I never used any sealant also.

    After installing your thru the wall skimmer you can only fill the pool to 1/2 way of the skimmer is this correct? Which is what about 3 squares from what would normally be full? I bought my skimmer last year but got scared on cutting the liner but think I am ready to do it. Then when I was doing a trial placement saw I would have to change the water level am I right on this?

    • @bellerve201
      @bellerve201  Před 10 lety +1

      The level vaires, id recommend a minimum of 1/2 above the bottom of the skimmer to prevent the pump from sucking air in. Go by the skimmer, not nessecarily the squares

    I have just ordered an intex 32' x16' x 52" from what i read it doesn't have a pre cut skimmer hole I would love to do this but do you think on a pool that size it will weaken the vinyl and eventually cause it to rip?

    • @bellerve201
      @bellerve201  Před 10 lety

      For your pool you could use a wide mouth skimmer easily as the walls would be flat. Not knowing what material it is or how thick it is, i wouldnt be able to answer that fully. I can say that with waves and kicking off the sides it can weaken over time, I have seen pools that have completely failed due to incorrect installation

    • @bellerve201
      @bellerve201  Před 9 lety

      ***** Sadly i only got to use it for one season due to some family issues which forced us to move, leaving thepool behind. I never had any issues though. I would reccomend never taking the skimmer off to take the pool down or winterize it though. Just drain the water below the skimmer and that should do fine

    Did cutting the gasket in half help?

    • @bellerve201
      @bellerve201  Před 8 lety

      Thats the way it has to be done to be sure theres a tight installation. It makes it so you can screw it all down with a gasket on each side before cutting a hole. That way theres a less likely chance it will fail in the future

    • @Sbartilotta
      @Sbartilotta Před 7 lety

      Can you explain cutting the gasket in 1/2 more. I dont understand how to cut it in 1/2. From the pics that I saw of the gaskets, they are square. Do you mean cut them to make them thinner, or actually cut them in 1/2 so they are a U instead of a square?

    • @JohnJoseph-jm1ts
      @JohnJoseph-jm1ts Před 7 lety +2

      Salvatore Bartilotta when you get it you'll understand when you see it. It's a butterfly gasket so it's already split on the outside and joined on the inside. It's very simple to do. Make sure your razor blade or utility knife is sharp.

    • @JohnJoseph-jm1ts
      @JohnJoseph-jm1ts Před 7 lety +1

      Your technically cutting them thinner. Lol

    • @Sbartilotta
      @Sbartilotta Před 7 lety

      I think I understand. The skimmer comes with 1 gasket which is what you need if installing on a metal sided pool. To install on a vinyl sided pool, you slice the gasket in 1/2, making 2 gaskets out of 1 so that you can have 1 on the inside of the pool and 1 on the outside of the pool. Do I have that right?
