I loved how her father hugged his daughter and adored how she did her best instead of looking disappointed,he was proud and gave her his sincere affections to encourage her to do more and try harder

It not common to have a father like that . And only a few through the ages who a king as well.

As a teenager I thought this was a cool and sexy fight, now it seems completely impractical, like most of these movies, lol. How is that bikini armor going to protect them if one of those weapons actually connected?
It's like in 300 where the men fight in basically their underwear, or Justice League where we see more bikini armor.
It was actually the stunt women who did the fight, not them.
@@darthvaderskywalker7657 Even then it's 90% two second cut scenes. Not to mention nothing about it is remotely authentic to that time period lol.
The fact that they did the fight without any stunt women and trained for 5 months is beyond amazing. What an amazing job to these two powerful woman!

One of the best fight scenes in film history. Too bad the rest of the movie isn't as good as the first one. It always bugged me that they forgot to redo the part where Pharoah sees her body paint is smudged on her arm, revealing that another man touched her. It's the entire reason why she tries to hide her arm behind the cat statue.
U sure about that?

@benjackson5411 indeed, most definitely. It's too bad Anck_su Namun's intentions were to betray the Pharaoh and not serve him.
Yes indeed.
This scene is pure magic. The fighting choreography is top notch, the looks are stunning, the decor looks authentic, the spoken ancient Egyptian sounds very convincing. But my favorite thing is the music. After the fight ends and people are starting to empty the chambers, the look that Imhotep and Anck-su-Namun share is accompanied by this beautiful, mysterious melody that gets stuck in your head. 12/10 scene. Bravo! Bravo!
I love that part when Anck-Su-Namun and Imohtep look at each other. Such a beautiful illustration of how a subtle look at someone can say so much.

That moment throws the whole 2nd movie's notion of the "'greater love' between protagonists vs antagonists" out the window. Literally, the look that she gave him was filled with love. She was a poker face until she looked at him, she lit up, showed endearment. And, the cinematography showed how the time moved slower in her head when he walked by her. Then, all the sudden, time started moving normally, and that normal time unsettled her. What a wonderful acting to show complexity of Ank-Su-Namon. It's like whoever shot the film didn't agree with the writers, there is too much inconsistency to plainly say: She didn't love him.
I realized just now one amazing style choice, when Nefertiti and Anck-Su-Namun proceed in the second part of the fight without masks: in the movie there's a believable reason, which is the obvious and annoying provocation by Anck-Su-Namun, something like "hey, I just won, sure to take a second round?"
But for us, viewers, is so that we can see the actresses faces, to fully appreciate their ability and devotion for playing that difficult part, instead of easily relying on stunts and doubles.
Amazing, can't spend enough words to admire this finesse and passion, from the creatos to the actors.
Cheers 👏🏻👏🏻
Love the fact that Weisz and Velasquez did so many of the stunts in this fight. They only used stunt doubles for the acrobatics and a few of the more complicated weapon movements but like 85% of the fight was with the actual actresses. #respect :)
They practiced it for months before they filmed
Indeed, that’s dedication!
It reminds me of the lightsaber duels in Star Wars, some actors trained for months to do a duel!
And fraser did all his stunts! One of the reason for his present condition!
Before the actors were complete. now they need doubles for everything.

Honestly as a kid I really enjoyed the love story of the the antagonists, and felt really sad when Imhotep gives up and let's himself fall.

Egyptian-inspired assets usually look cheap, but here they look expensive (as they should considering what they're made of). I also love how great the actors are at saying their lines in reconstructed Ancient Egyptian. It sounds convincing.
What does reconstructed ancient Egyptian mean? Especially the reconstructed part.
@@marioss2167 Probably means that no one alive today speaks the dialect that existed in Ancient Egypt. Language evolves over time, naturally, so the modern language is not the same. I imagine, using relics and scriptures, they could infer what the language sounded like at the time (at least to a certain extent).
@@marioss2167 // Keeping in mind that Ancient Egyptian is a dead language, linguistics have to reconstruct (build anew) its phonology (basically its sounds) by observing related languages, e.g. Coptic which actually descends from Ancient Egyptian. So, when it's reconstructed, you have to take it with a grain of salt because there is no sure-fire way of knowing how it was pronounced.
In fact, there is a village in luxor now (typah previously) speaks هيروغليفية the ancient Egyptian language. Not only that but also students in Faculty of archeology are studying it. Have not you seen the mummys' transfer parade couple of month ago they had a concert of masses singing ancient Egyptian songs and playing their music. Also there is a tendency to incorporate the ancient Egyptian language in schools that will be implemented in the near future. Not to mentione that there are loads of ancient Egyptian words still be spoken today by us and most of the Egyptian people don't know that the origin is actually hieroglyphic
I know that because i am an Egyptian
are you saying that village speaks Coptic? Isn't that the last descendant of the ancient Egyptian language?

Sad when you realise that anck-su-namun's reason for taking her own life was not because she had been separated from her lover and wanted to die with him but because she didn't want to go through the torture that awaited her for her adultery and murder so she chose the seemingly less painful death unlike imhotep who refused to leave her side and chose to suffer the consequences instead of running away. She never really loved him but only lusted after him while imhotep fought against death to bring his love back

This makes the ending so much better

.....reminds me of how my drama class would do fight scenes - with dramatic flair and obviously out of the way twirls and moves. I tried being over dramatic and I just got tired after doing the same thing for four shows. I finally had enough and tried to end the duel - I was Macbeth and I was fighting MacDuff. Originally there was supposed to be epic combat music (imagine Two Steps from Hell version of Lion King scene Simba vs Scar), our swords and shields were wood but we had metal sound effects, we were wearing armor. The duel was supposed to last roughly 3-5 minutes with near misses and wounds. My friend who played Macduff already knew I was going to try to end it early but he wanted to fight it all out....so in the end we had an all out duel that was not planned - armor and a little of real blood flying, shields being battered. We were actually beating the shit out of each other and everyone thought it was just theatrics. The duel ended when I threw Macduff down and tried to bash in his skull....my sword broke and he impaled me with the sword.....he actually kind've stabbed me, meant to get my side but....yeah....He then finished me off with a baseball slash to the head - that we managed to do with actually hitting me and I the great Macbeth died...thank god it was the last show cause I wouldn't have been able to reproduce that.

For those talking about accuracy, I was once listening to a radio show where an egyptologist was talking about an incoming travelling exhibition of egypcian art and the conversation got to the topic of ancient Egypt in films and the expert was asked about The Mummy franchise. Well, she said that for example the background for this scene was a pleasant surprise because it depicts quite well how the Pharaoh's court may have looked, and that probably it was as a result of a good historical counselling.
I already loved the two first movies, but after that I also appreciated them as more than just entertaining stuff.

Apparently this was one of the last scenes shot in the film. By then Rachel Weisz and Patricia Velasquez had been practising this fight for six months. I think it shows clearly here and that their body doubles were really there for just the gymnastics, back flips and cartwheels.
Not Alfie I didn’t know they had to be non white to be able to play the part! The more you know....
@Not Alfie Egyptians are a mix of black, white, olive-skinned, etc. people because of where they are located. Case in point, Cleopatra's ancestry/family was most likely more Asian (Persia, Macedonia, middle east - FYI I say Asian because we're comparing continents) than African (a continent). Egypt has peoples from middle east, Europe, and of course the continent of Africa to pull people from. Just because they are Egyptian doesn't make them black. Look at the features of Egyptians, very mixed people. They probably care less about skin color because of how mixed they are.
If unconvinced, here's DNA for you: www.gnxp.com/WordPress/2017/05/30/ancient-egyptians-black-or-white/ The article states that the sub-saharan African % is lower in Ancient Egyptians and more % are Easterners.
Just so you don't feel that I'm being racist or putting down blacks, there ARE many black civilizations within Africa such as the Kingdom of Aksum, Nubian Kingdom of Kush, etc. Egypt is a mix race Kingdom. I'm just suggesting to please use Science and Research as our guide instead of beliefs and assumptions.

Agreed.
She's so beautiful and feisty in this role. A Mummy movie without her was a terrible idea.
In this short scene, they managed to introduce Nefertiti as a character you can care for. I certainly loved her perspective.
She is a young woman here. A princess who has a lot to learn and bears the weight of one day becoming a worthy queen. She wants to make her father proud.
Then her father chooses a woman, almost in her age as his next wife. She despises this woman. But despite being the princess, she can't do anything about her. Her father is the pharaoh and he chose her, and his word is a god's word. Nefertiti's feelings don't get better, when this woman defeats her every single time they duel, no matter how hard she trains.
This also means if the pharaoh dies and Anck-Su-Namun gives him a son, Nefertiti’s future is also taken from her and her life will be in the hands of this woman she hates.
She sees how this woman is developing a secret relationship with the high priest, behind her father's back. But she can't do anything about it either, because she can't prove it.
After all of this and witnessing her father killed by the woman she despised, i couldn't stop to think, how Nefertiti's story continued. I know she most likely inherited her father's throne, but what did she do or think or feel is something what interested me. Shame there was nothing more about her.
RIGHTTTTTT??? I wanted to know what the aftermath was like for her.
Obviously you can see than she fell of that balcony. That's why Evie almost fell of that plane, but her husband saved her. Nefertiri died also, and reincarnated in Evie's body later... that's why Anck su namun called her "Nefertiri" when they fought.
If you want the historical answer here it is :
Nefertiri married Ramesess II and became Queen of Egypt, her husband is considered the strongest Pharaoh in history . So I guess it was well after she lost her father.
@@Ines_Ella this movie is not based on any actual figure in Egyptian history. The names maybe similar, but this is pure fiction.

I've seen this movie a billion times and never thought about this
I actually watched this film again the other day and wondered what happened to her, and if she died in the fall lol
I don't think she would be foolish to do that
I think she does die and so does Anack Su an mun
Yea Princess Nefertiti did died from the fall....otherwise she won’t reborn as Evelyn and including Anck-su-naum she also reborn too. except Imhotep he was rise from the dead by the book of the dead I wonder why he didn’t get reborn probably the sins he murder the King, but Anck-su-naum killed the king too why she still get to reborn...it doesn’t make sense....
This is how serious my daydreaming is 😭
My favorite scene!!! Wow what a fight.
Man, the way Imhotep says her name is just ICONIC
Sucks when you think you’ve found your soul mate but realize their a coward who will leave you to die lmfao
that scene was retarded. Only written to make Evelyn and her romance look "superior".
Faewaterspirit yeah that kinda threw me off I was pissed lol but 🤷♀️
to be fair she isn't full Ank suna mun she possess the soul of a reincarnated woman
Yh I guess they had to kill of the bad guys somehow. Anck-su-namun didn’t seem like someone who would willingly die for Imhotep (Even knowing he would bring her back) only to leave him at the very end.
@@jessgriffiths6325 Anck su namun did not want to awaken the scorpion King all she wanted was a second chance at life with imhotep. Imhotep chosen power over love. That's why anck su namun did not go and help him as she did not want to be there in the first place.
Back in the day when the actors, men or women alike, did a good portion of the physical work and training. The Matrix is another example of that. Nowadays actors generally (not including say, Tom Cruise) just let the stunt people do the majority of the work. Look at Patricia Velasquez at 1:50, the weapons training, the choreography. Of course there's going to be stunt work but it's much more subtle because the actors are doing a lot more of the action, which means you can better see that it's them with wider shots. They don't make them like this anymore.
😘Please, can all The Mummy Returns cast come back for The Mummy 4💪☺️
Damn Rachel looks so beautiful in this movie.
Ngocky99 ikr😍
Yup
She still does at 50
I agree. She was gorgeous in the first one but really was at her peak here.
rachel and Velasquez both amazing... and hot
I seem to remember hearing the actresses decided against stand-ins for the fight scenes so they'd look realistic. Combine that with what l call great camera angles and editing and you've got one of the best fight scenes ever. The fact that they're both so utterly gorgeous doesn't hurt either!!
Agreed. But the producers said this scene was inspired by the big fight scene in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon between Michelle Yeo and Zhang Zi. At the time, anyone who saw Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon knew where this scene was influenced from.
Stand-Ins are different from stunt doubles. Dee and Carly Harrop were the stunt doubles would fought in the fight scene. They're twin sisters.
I'd be surprised if they both did those flips and swung weapons (even if blunt) at each other.
Yep! This fight scene and the one in The Craft are my fave fight scenes EVER.
Though, ancient egypt was anything but like this
This is a visually beautiful scene.
imhotep would be crying the rest of his life, he would be blubbering, he would be too sad to destroy Rick
Normal person:
Quickly runs to grab weapon.
Movie person:
Does a thousand backflips to get to weapon.
E D exactly so extra
@Irfan Alddin Nope, are you outta your mind?
Irfan Alddin If your arab it doesnt mean u have to be Muslim, especially Egyptian some of them are not muslims...... just saying
Doesn't yallah simply mean "come on" or "let's go"?
And we cannot get a weapon coz it's required to do series of back flips first! Hahaha! 😂
This movie will never get old
The mummy, better love story than twilight
This fight scene is very well done, very choreographic, excellent clothing, the atmosphere, all very good. Good job by Rachel Weisz and Patricia Velasquez. The Mummy 1 and 2 made me a fan of ancient Egypt. Too bad Rachel Weisz wasn't in the 3rd :(
one of my favorite childhood movie🙌
Hi baby
Me 2
Me three!!
Me too
Me too
This is my favorite scene. Just love the tension between the women and the conflict. The fact that Nefertiri couldn't stand Aneck Sa Namun, because she knew that she was no good, made her fight all the harder. and learn quickly, I love the extra elements of reincarnation too. Just loved the first and second mummy. As a lover of Egyptology, I can appreciate everything and the absurd that goes with it.
Anck-su-namun reincarnation loved Imhotep more than she herself did
Friendly reminder that she’s not just getting a hug from her dad, she’s getting a hug from The Pharoh! A literal god on earth for the Egyptian people! That’s a big-time honor!
Who else tried recreating this scene when they were a kid???🤚🤚🤚
Jack FelixnAtlas I remember trying to copy this scene and my relatives will scold me and my friend (who’s actually a guy) that we might get injured because of that😂😂😂😂
Jack FelixnAtlas lol... once i was acting in a same way and my sister got hurt. I was using viper as a weapon. Lol.
Lmao my cousin and I reenact this scene so much it got to the point where she and I were legit practicing to do it for the school talent show. We both got cold feet and hella backed out last minute despite all the practices we did for weeks😂😂😂
I only re-act the dialogue and I am using this scene for a Fanfic I am doing.
Lmao
Patricia Velasquez was everything in this movie
A E M T I wonder what Cleopatra would’ve thought about her character in this series.
+A E M T She has a very rare and distinct beauty and charisma
Patricia paves the way for other latinos to play characters that aren't necessarily the race of them. You don't have to be the race of a specific character to play that character.
Cain Velasquez
@@eduardomerino8098 Unless it's a white person. Then it's white washing. OK to have a black Ariel, though, because Reasons.
Late Cinematographer Adrian Biddle just did wonderful with this fight sequence right before his last action film V For Vendetta.
I liked this film in the early naughties. Don't forget the pharaoh in real life probably would have married his sister or even his daughter.
"Put your mask back on" see? Even then.
Jajaja...the actual reference
😌🤭🤣🤣🤣
Ha! 😆
😂😂😂😂😂😂
@Charan Raj 😂😂😂
I remember a little scene where the Pharaoh realizes that the paint ornament on Anck Su Namun's shoulder is runny and asks "Who has touched you?"
That's in the prequel The Mummy at the beginning
It's from the first movie. They should have left in this scene
It's in first part .
It wasn't necessary for this story. When the Pharoah was saying that the princess was shouting for the guards.
Yeah me too I thought I had the Mandela effect but I see you remember that scene part too 🤣🤣
I dont know how many times i watched this scene. Just love it. But my question until now,how tf nefertiri landing on the wall doing a backflip?🤣🤣🤣 she must have strong legs. But hey i know its just part of the acting. Still loving it.
До сих пор дух захватывает от фильма. Хоть и прошло столько лет
Rachel Weisz was so amazing in this role. The first time I saw her, I thought she was both talented and gorgeous. Little did I know she would be even more beautiful in the sequel.
