For those wondering about how he has his eyes and tongue.
In the first movie, when they show him being mummified, the guys doing it take his eyes and tongue.
Evie explains this when they uncover him.
The reason he has his eyes and tongue now, is because he acquired them in the first movie and all they did was kill him. They didn't perform the ceremony, so he still has the eyes and tongue he stole from the last movie.
The reason his flesh is like it is, was because he was decomposing or whatever over the time span from the 2 movies.
Later on in this movie, he steals the greedy thug's flesh. They open the chest and the containers from the 1st movie that house his limbs or whatever are there, so the continuity still holds to the first 1.
Whoever opens the chest, the Mummy steals from and uses what he stole as his own to get to full strength.
It helps if you've seen the 1st movie before this 1..
It’s typically the organs of the deceased that are placed in the Canopic Jars found inside the chest but if we think back to the first movie we see that Imhotep is still alive when he is wrapped and placed into his sarcophagus with the scarab beetles 🪲 so it always confused me as to how this made sense throughout the movie but I guess it doesn’t really matter, it was still great despite some inconsistencies ☺️ The Mummy and Mummy Returns are definitely comfort films for me! Love to watch them wrapped up in a blanket when it’s raining outside ☺️❤

I love how the majority of the henchmen's death are random and funny. This is why the movie action is so good, bec it's entertaining, hilarious, and a bit unpredictable.

I think the idea is that you have to read directly from the unlocked and opened Book of the Dead for the incantations to have any effect. Again, this might be wrong since Imhotep could create mummies by just saying an incantation, but in the first movie, the man that says “What have we done?” exclaims that Rick and Evie “must not read from the book,” not “you must not say those words.”
Imhotep is a practitioner and high priest of an ancient system of magic. He is also a superhuman undead, so he might be able to call upon spells without a Book. A nonpractitioner may need the book as an arcane focus.

If you haven’t seen the movie he was excited that it was the year of the scorpion and wanted the bracelet so he could take control of the army of the dead from the Scorpion King. Conquering the world and underworld and freeing his girl’s soul in a big two in one.
Conquering the world might be his second option after tasting so much power. Almost everyone will do that if they gain so much power. Nobody perfect.

While The Mummy has become a genuine beloved classic, people sleep on Returns and only seem to remember it for the CGI Rock at the end. This is unfair. Returns is a great, great sequel with action and charm that can stand up strongly with the first. The CGI Rock is...we all know it's not great, lol. But I really don't think it's so bad it ruins the finale or the film itelf.
The cast is still there. The chemistry is still there. The humor is still there. The charm is still there. The action is still there.
Is it a sequel that surpasses the original? No, but that isn't a requirement for good sequels.
God knows where all ancient Egyptians are.

I've never quite understood this scene, especially when compared to the first movie. Evie accidentally wakes him up, and he immediately goes on a murderous rampage. This random guy wakes him up, and he merely asks what year it is. No other questions, no rampage, basically instant buddies.

Can someone explain how Imhotep came back to life with eyes and a tongue? I remember Imhotep diving into that pool in Hamunaptra after Rick stabbed him, Imhotep's eyes and tongue disappeared.
When O'Connor stabbed him in the end of the first movie he was a normal mortal again.

They are saying a made up language but I love the continuity. At 4:43, Imhotep is saying the same phrase as in part 1 when he was telling the soldiers to kill Rick but they didn't follow his command because Jonathan had completed the inscription from the book.
