Even though in this scenario it worked out well, it's generally not recommended to have cats pair with chinchillas. It's really risky as cats are at the end of the day predators and you don't want your pet chinchilla to be likely stressed out or potentially killed by your cats. Even if they do get along, cats' claws can be full of bacteria from using the kitty litter. If the claws breaks into chinchillas' skin while playing, it can cause the chinchilla to be seriously infected as they are prone to infections. That's what I was told by a reputable breeder.

I think my cat is more scared of the chinchillas. I have chickens and ducks aswel. They all don't seem to bother each other.

Generally chinchillas aren't seen as pets for children, but it depends on the child of course. Guinea pigs are more known for kids to start with.
