- Willie, Sarah and their dogs Jack Spaniels & new puppy, Nori, continue their biggest adventure yet - leaving their suburban life and moving over the sea to a remote cottage on the Isle of Skye, off the west coast of the Scottish Highlands.
In this episode, the Skye Lifers are back at Skye Life Cottage and ready to get to work on their cottage garden - planting out their seedlings in the hand built planters.
Plus, it's time to take the newly named Betty out on the water again and get those lobster pots hauled in and we realise why gardening with spaniels is a terrible idea..!

If you are going to plant Tomatoes, bury a banana under the roots - - makes the tomato strong and produce more tomatoes. Watching Nori makes me sad because my first dog looked just like him and he was my constant companion - - I rescued him when I was four years old - he lived 13 years. I am now 79 years old and still tear up when I think of him.
I use banana skins in my garden they bio degrade slowly such a slow release of potassium for plants
Great for my hydrangeas last year fabulous flowers also egg shell

Nori has grown so quickly and is so mischievous while Jack is being a well behaved adult.
The most fun I’ve had in ages. Watching Nori help you gardening. So pleased the first launching for the season was a success, Betty looks terrific. I used to make oatmeal barriers in the garden for the slugs and snails. They used to get bogged
Another Nori proofing idea would be to pull the seats out on the grass edge for the time being =-)

Coffee grounds are great for a garden and so are tea bags, just rip them open and spread around. I see Nori is the family landscaper, lol. He is so adorable and so is Jack, the sweetest spaniel of all.
Always enjoy watching you guys , looks like you have a very busy helper in the garden. Wait for the hose pipe, your plants , plant pots and stones are brought back to the cottage.
My how unusual it was raining ! As to slugs and snails the best thing to get rid of them is an old tennis racket!! Basically you pick the little devil's up then wack them for miles. Good fun and no nasty pesticides. Oh and egg shells don't work !! ❤ Rich W Ely UK.

Mentioning the River Cottage book reminded me how much I enjoyed watching the different River cottage-series by Hugh Fearnley wittingstall. You have kind of replaced that kind of feel good-tv.

Listening to the thunderstorms was so relaxing. Nori is so naughty trying to eat the netting etc etc. It is all a learning curve growing veg and flowers. My thoughts on the matter is there is no right or wrong, there is learning and experimenting and trying by trial and error. Enjoy your adventure in gardening. That was very gentlemanly of you to let those other fisherman fish for their goods and you going to a different location. The crab and lobster dishes looked delicious and I enjoy your videos very much.

Building raised planters to save the plants from the four legged trouble monsters was a great idea! Maybe sabotaged slightly by the handy puppy step right next to them though 😂😂😂

I don't know if it works on Springers, but the best "do NOT chew on THAT!" product I ever found was cherry flavored chapstick, or any cherry flavored lip balm that is made mostly of wax. Rub it on the surface of whatever and the first time they taste it, most dogs run away.

I have a seafood allergy so I don't eat seafood. But I can appreciate your effort in catching lobsters and crabs for your meal. Looking forward to the next video as always.

Wonderful video as usual. Betty looks awesome, congrats on catch for first drop of the season. The scenery getting the fish box, floats ,etc. was stunning. Planters look great full of hopeful food, mine is closer to the ground and my Yorkie loves to chase lizards through it. I am getting about half the veggies I should. Oh Well. Fun bloopers. I wish you a week of beauty and peace, may be difficult seeing Nori is at that toddler stage, wanting to be in everything. Jack is proving how much of a gentleman he has become. Thanks so much!!
Gardens are work, but are also so rewarding. It is such a satisfying feeling when you eat a meal with the food you have grown. Good job with the egg shells.

Copper tape around your veggie bed sides also works! I haven’t had any slug or snail problems since I used that and it lasts for years in all weather!
Ignore the detractors. We were told we were wrong for planting our onion sets out in October, "they will never grow" we were told. Guess what, we have loads of onions each year (and Garlic). Half of the fun of growing your own is learning what works and what doesn't.
Slugs love beer so put some e in a jar lid in the dirt and they will go straight to it.
if you want a fun diy project with carrot seeds, you can make your own seed tape using a bit of loo roll and some flour and water for glue. Helps with the spacing. I did it for a wee test a few years back and i couldn't believe how well it worked. Saves having to thin out any seedlings which can attract the flies.
That fish box is a perfect candidate for plastic welding - pick up one (they are very inexpensive) and very, very useful!!!

That Nori is a real jester! I just knew he’d be a handful with those planter boxes. Looks like he’s gotten in a bit of chewing on the corner of at least one box.

How does all that netting, the plastic fish boxes and other detritus wash up everywhere? Do people just toss unwanted garbage overboard, or is there another reason-like storms which blow stuff into the sea from decks and jetties? How sad to see it all lying or drifting about and potentially harming the sea life. Great video. Nori and Jack are so funny… as enjoyable as cream cakes, ‘naughty but nice’ XXX
Judy says the coffee grounds will break down and oxidize to help next year's crop, and my advice , get yourself a dump trailer and clean out horse stalls or stockyards and let that break down for a year, but in the meantime, you gotta do whatcha gotta do, we love ❤️ you all four 😉
Keep an eye out for the pea vines under the satellite dish. I have grapevines growing along the path beside my house here in Romania and a couple of the tendrils grew across the one metre path, wrapped themselves round the satellite dish and were strong enough to pull it slightly out of alignment resulting in a "snowy" picture! All okay again after I realised what had happened and cut the offending tendrils off.

How lovely to be able to catch your lobsters & crabs, so fresh 😋 Hope your veggies grow well and the only advice is (from personal experience) is.. don’t let the dogs see you pick the crop as ONE dog I know now helps herself to peas, tomatoes etc Good luck 🤞🇦🇺
21:19 Oyster shells also work apparently, and they are less likely to blow/wash away - another idea is to make a moat around the legs of the raised beds with old cups or something and fill with salty water... but the dogs would probably try drinking it!
I recently watched a few videos on here about plastic welding. If you get an old soldering gun you can quite solidly repair plastic items. I got into it for repairing kayaks. And Willie can still use zip ties, just as welding rods.
Thanks for the beach cleanup. Read articles years ago about how plastics from here in Nova Scotia ride the currents and end up over there in the UK. Actually Scotland iirc.

might be helpful with Nori: When my pup Samwise was young, I always kept him on a leash tied around my waist when I gardened. Funny - now as a 4 year old, its the time he is the BEST behaved, is when I use my waist leash.
