    The way I see Oxbridge interviews is almost like you're going on a date with someone you really like. If you go in either just saying nothing or bragging/memorising pre-rehearsed lines then you look really out of place and they probably won't want to see you again but if you pay attention to what's been asked, have a proper conversation and approach talking points in a unique and engaging way then you're probably gonna get a much warmer response.
    Then again if my date asked me the last digit of 2^1000 as I was splitting the bill I probably would get quite confused so maybe the analogy still needs some work.

    For who caused V’s death, although we don’t have much information, I would argue that enemy 2 caused his death because enemy 1 had the intention but the poison never killed V so he wouldn’t have caused it. Enemy 2 however may not have intended to kill V but he drained the water bottle of water and V died due to not having water, and the question doesn’t say that there had to be an element of intent in causing a death. However, more caustically you could argue that V caused his own death as presumably two enemies didn’t find him in the desert and somehow poison/drain his water without his knowledge. This means that V either knew that his water bottle and its contents had been tampered with or he didn’t but it’s likely that he could feel the weight difference without water as if he is in the middle of a desert you would assume he packs a lot of water. If not then he could’ve died anyways. Furthermore for a trip in the desert a reasonable person would check that they have water beforehand as that’s probably one of the most important things to have in that environment. We could assume that he was part way through his trip when this occurred therefore he didn’t check his water bottle again but then the weight difference argument still applies.

    I completely misunderstood the 4th question 😂. The one about writing for adults and children, I said that writing for children is seen as an expression of their feelings through more simple means e.g. writing their name on a wall. Whereas writing for adults is often seen as a means to an end, adults write in order to convey something, for adults writing is treated similarly to talking whereas with children its treated as an artistic endeavour. Would I be penalised for doing this type of thing in an interview?

    • @JesusCollegeOxford1571
      @JesusCollegeOxford1571  Před 3 měsíci

      That would be ok. The interviewers would help you onto the path they are hoping to travel. It’s fine to try out ideas with the interviewers and for them to help you. The interview is set up like a lesson, not like a quiz.

    Hi Matt, what happens if you decide to decline a second interview invitation from another college? Are you automatically reallocated to another second college for interview?

    • @JesusCollegeOxford1571
      @JesusCollegeOxford1571  Před 7 měsíci

      I wouldn't recommend it. Declining an interview would deprive all colleges (including your first choice college) from more useful data. Obtaining a second interview doesn't mean that you're automatically going to be sent to that other college if you're offered a place. What you need to think about is providing as much data as possible for tutors to use to make a decision on your behalf, whether that's at a college you prefer or not.

    Hello Professor! Hope you are doing well. I am writing to you with a concern - I have always loved studying English since childhood. I used to get good grades till year 9. However, ever since I started doing my IGCSEs, i have been getting terrible grades in First Language English. I will be sitting for my exams in May, 2024. I have been getting Cs in all my FLE exams, although I get better grades in IGCSE Literature in English (As and Bs). Would it be okay if I drop FLE and continue studying English Literature? Honestly, I am too scared to see a teribble grade on my report card. I am currently studying 8 subjects, and don't study any language other than English. So, will dropping FLE hurt my opportunity of getting into Oxford for getting a degree in economics and management?

    • @JesusCollegeOxford1571
      @JesusCollegeOxford1571  Před 7 měsíci

      Oxford admissions depend more on predicted (or obtained) A-level (or equivalent) grades rather than IGCSEs. Middle school grades do matter, but not to the same extent. So, it should be fine. Just note that E&M is one of Europe's most competitive degrees. Your performance on the TSA test will be amongst the most important elements of an application.
