The Rise Of 7-Eleven

- 7-Eleven, home of the formerly 64-ounce Double Gulp and the Pina Colada Slurpee, has helped revolutionize the way we shop at convenience stores. In March 2019, the 90-year-old brand launched its first Evolution Store. Featuring fresh food options and specialty alcohol, the new store concept is aimed at a new generation of consumers. And with consumer behavior changing due to Covid-19, the convenience store industry could be on the verge of a profound change.

The Rise Of 7-Eleven

America lacking both in their infrastructure and in their 7-11.
In Middle East, they have 9- eleven
Except its our company
The best 7-11’s are in the Asia markets, the 7-11 in the states are lacking, they need to catch up to grab the market like they do in Asia.
In Asian countries where there’s Family Mart, it is always better than 7-11.

They are really on another level over there.

7 eleven treats their franchisees like absolute garbage. They take 50-60% of their profits and micromanage everything.
The best versions of 7-Eleven I've seen are in Asia
Basically all the Asian convenient stores in China, Korea, Taiwan, and South East Asia were influenced by Japan++
No doubt about it. Thailand especially. You can get a full dinner for about $1.50 U.S.. Really good food, too.
You can't get any decent food at 7/11's in the U.S.. The sell nothing but cheap garbage.
And most items are not higher priced than the grocery store as in the U.S..
Hi from Japan. If you know the "food manufacturing" reality of these prepared foods factories, I wouldnt eat 7-Eleven food.(I dont). Why do you abandon your wonderful cook-on-the-spot food culture of U.S. by yourselves?
Its a lot healthier and tastier.
@@honyasenyou The "food manufacturing" reality of any kitchen can be suspect. I saw Thai's in Thailand buying the 7/11 prepared meals all the time. I ate them almost every night for months and never had one problem with the food.
@@NewOrleansSeptember In the entire "line manufacturing" process of such prepared foods, everything from handlings of materials to management personnel and their laborors morals and work customs are all not good, at all. Youll be easily disillusioned by the difference between various ads and marketing efforts at storefronts and TV commercials, and the sense of despair felt from those factory workers once you see them making those stuffs.
Everyone needs to experience 7-Eleven in Japan
Agreed.
No not really.

I feel like we need a whole video on Japanese 711 and the Japanese bought the control stake of its parent company.
This video should be re-titled "The Rise of 7/11 in the US" because that's all it covered. Reminds me of their video about why McDonalds doesn't have a veg option....when it's had that in india for decades and everyone in the comments made sure to let them know it and they adjusted the title. Because they take 55% profit from franchise owners
In the rural areas in my state 711 has disappeared. I lived them and I get to go to them as I travel closer to St Louis. My sons fave memories are when he did something great (report cards, doing the right thing, doing all his chores) I would take him to get a slushie. (He will turn 30 this year)

The food options at 7-11 in Japan, far outweigh what we have here in the US.
Part of the reason is There's no real food culture in the US except for what outsiders have brought in.
Japan has much better convenience stores than Seven Eleven. Sure it has the biggest market but the food aint good enough.
Because Americans buy food from markets and restaurants. They dont buy from convenient stores

In Asia, if there’s no 7 Eleven nearby means it’s a bad location, then you should avoid buying that property.
in the West 7-11s are in the poorer hoods mostly.
@@rkadius001 that's ironic. The 7 Eleven in Asia adds value to a property because of conveniences like paying bills, summons settlements, renew driving licence, purchase park, train or airlines tickets and luggage delivery to airports. Maybe the west counterparts invest little effort to innovate the retail experience.
@@Chris58851 You right, the 7 Eleven here offers fast food, cheap accessories and lottery tickets, thats it. BTW, the good areas have mall strips, shopping centres or mega stores near by.
There's no 7 Eleven in Indonesia tho. 🤭
@@rkadius001 The malls in Asia is literally a grand palace. For example, the largest mall of North America, West Edmonton showed the world how mall should be built. But the medium size mall such as Iconsiam in Thailand just supersede everything in Western counterparts with garden terrace covered with glass façade, public transport connectivity and a stunning floating market inside the mall!! I guess part of their DNA has been integrated with giant malls, even big airports like KLIA and Changi has mall right adjacent to the terminal.
7-11 stores in US look dirty and ugly. I was surprised when I heard that 7-11 was very popular in Japan. Now I know the reason. A Japanese supermarket chain in Japan owns 7-11 and run the stores in their own way, completely different with American stores
I rarely go. Just too many aggressive homeless hang out at them everywhere in S California even in good neighborhoods.
FACTS!!!
Yep- same!
Lol. Reminds me of when I went for a holiday to LA, stayed at the Dunes Inn on Sunset Blvrd. Woke up early, went next door to 7/11, guy with a considerable amount of skill playing a guitar out the front, homeless guy burst open from his parked car “YO, SHUT THE F**K UP” whilst power staunching over our way... As an Aussie, I can understand this comment and I was there for a week haha.
In Philippines, we have locally grown convenience stores who are growing regionally. For instance, in Iligan city somewhere in Mindanao, shoppe24 convenience shop was already existing long before the opening of several 7/11 eleven stores in the city and yet all are still operating. 7 eleven put a healthy competition in the Philippines and still growing..
I wish American 7-11 has onigiris and other good foods and snacks, just like in Japan.
It’s filled with American food, like hotdogs, hamburgers, sandwiches, etc....
Japan's 7/11 saved me for a good snack after walking a lot! And cheap prices! Same as Family Mart. They are everywhere.
Dude I was thinking that same thing the whole time! Now I want to got to Japan just for one of those things.
Singapore's 7-11s are pretty good too. Besides Japanese stuff like onigiris, udon and katsu curries, we also have local dishes like dumplings, bubble tea, chicken rice and biryani. I hear Taiwan has fairly similar offerings in their 7-elevens.
But you have these big Japanese supermarkets in the US where you can buy a onigiri or a Japanese sandwich.

Its a very interesting business model that i think will remail one of the few stores that can survive while being a 100% brick and mortar company
I remember only 10 years ago the only 7-eleven's anywhere near me were convince only stores a 30 minutes drive away in the city CBD and I thought it was so cool to go to them because I heard so much about them from American TV. Now it feels like they're opening new service stations left, right and centre in Australia. They now have 8 service stations within a 20 minutes drive of my house.
These have been rising up in my country of Philippines. The over the counter payment of online processors helped a lot.
Fun fact... for most of their history in America, 7-Eleven stores with room for a gas station always had a CITGO station attached. Somehow the friendship between the two companies soured about ten years ago. So the CITGO name was dropped and 7-Eleven started selling gas under their own name in the USA. Hilariously, the old CITGO panels on the 7-Eleven roadside signs (the signs with gas prices on them) were all replaced by "oh thank heaven" signs! And I don't think many people under 60 in this country even know "oh thank heaven" was the 7-Eleven slogan long ago. There was a time in the 60's and 70's when 7-Eleven ran commercials on TV with a song based on this slogan. Interestingly the 7-Eleven stores in Canada never sold CITGO gas, but perhaps CITGO never existed in Canada at all? Lots of Americans old enough to remember when ESSO changed their name to EXXON (almost 50 years ago!) in the USA probably have no idea that the ESSO name is still used in Canada (so that means there are NOT any EXXON stations in Canada) and would be shocked if they went to Canada and saw an Esso station. Also, lots of Americans are probably shocked (I know I sure was) when they go to a 7-Eleven in Canada and find out that MARLBORO cigarettes are NOT sold in Canada at all! Marlboro is the most popular cigarette brand in the world, but is unavailable in Canada because of a legal dispute between Philip Morris and a competing Canadian tobacco company which happened way back in 1955! Most of the other classic American cigarette brands are sold in Canada though... CAMEL is the most popular, which is funny because Marlboro and Camel have a huge rivalry in the USA, but Marlboro has always outsold Camel by a huge number... just like Coke outsells Pepsi.

We need better convenience stores or small grocery stores in North America. In the UK they have small convenience store size Tescos that sell at grocery store prices that are in town centres. This would be great for under served communities.
Convenience stores usually charge significantly higher prices than conventional grocery stores or supermarkets,
as these stores order smaller quantities of inventory at higher per-unit prices from wholesalers.
However, convenience stores make up for this loss by having longer open hours,
serving more locations, and having shorter cashier lines.
There is a severe lack of Wawa's on the west coast. They're missing out on so much money here. There isn't even any competition here.

I was shock to know that foods and in-store dine-in are just newly incorporated in American 7-11s. Like in our 7-11 here in Asia, we used to stay at 7-11 stores to eat like it was a restaurant. But I don't know if what I understand is full, but please bring some light to me if ever I misunderstood something.
What's there to be shocked, there's tons of fastfood places in the US for people to dine in. In fact the reason they incorporated dine-in in Southeast Asian 7/11s and similar chains is because their sales were too low and people weren't spending enough like they do in US/Japan where people just buy snacks/drinks and leave. I have a feeling the dine-in option isn't going to work in most US 7/11s because it's redundant and kills the whole vibe of convenience and corner stores. There's already diners and fastfood for people to dine in.
In the U.S. the food in 7/11's is garbage. Spent 4 years in Asia. Nothing beats getting a meal in a 7/11 in Thailand unless you really want to go to a sit down restaurant.
Good food and great price at the 7/11's in Thailand. And they are literally everywhere. They have nothing in the U.S. in any 7/11 type market to compare it too.
