It sometimes annoys me when people think that interracial dating solves racism between those communities. I think that's why people on social media uplift interracial relationships so much. I think there are people who think that dating a Black person (or praising interracial relationships) makes them more liberal/less racist automatically.
There's also the fetishism aspect, you can tell when people are together to have "cute mixed babies" and make those swirl life social media accounts
@@komamangaii231 i agree I think it’s a fetish as well or they are trying to prove something to themselves by dating a POC
But I think we forget that interracial couples always have a danger hanging over them. Like the KKK specifically targeted interracial couples due to the realization that there is literally no difference between people of different skin color.
That's true your point makes 100% sense with some people but most people I've met and seen who are in interracial relationships if they genuinely love and care for the person they are with they don't do it for the reason of/they dont think they going to come across more liberal or anything they're dating someone because they want to but I definitely agree SOME people as you said definitely have that mindset and it's strange ngl.
@@pugdad2555 They do in certain places and situations. But generally speaking, there's a vast difference between the danger of generations ago versus today.
I can write a whole dissertation on why Black men and women date who we date based on conversations my friends and I have had. Dating someone Black when you're Black isn't just about race. Sometimes we don't want to explain our experiences as a Black people to a White partner. It can be exhausting to be explain why what their friend said was problematic, etc. Or sometimes they will make concessions/excuses for racist family members.
This makes a lot of sense. What do you think about black men dating white women and black women dating white men? I’ve seen comments before from people in the community saying black men and women need to treat each other better but I never understood where this stemmed from
@@tatum2739 I'm a Black women so I have a bit of a bias but I feel like when Black men date White women they often put Black women down at the same time which then creates this tension and Black women feel undesired by Black men. One symptom of colorism is that dark skin is tied to masculinity and I definitely feel like a lot of Black men believe that. There is colorism in other communities but I think it hurts more if another Black person is colorist against you.
@@random-dm5md I’m sorry but how is a preference putting down your race? If anything you should feel empowered that the man that didn’t see your worth, is no longer part of the dating pool. You have to have self worth and love yourself in order to do so…. But some black women can’t do that which is why you feel betrayed. Cause sweetheart, men aren’t obligated to date to their race.
@@thatbeaatcch9884 It's not really the preference thing that's specifically the issue but it speaks to a larger issue that we all ignore and although I'm not a black woman, I've spoken and listened to several black women talk about this issue in depth so I probably won't get it 100% right. There are societal standards on what is considered "beautiful" and these standards are so deeply implanted and it's reinforced by the media and in everyday experiences and even family and then add onto that having someone of your own race saying and reinforcing those negative views is extremely hurtful all the while people of other race's are getting procedures done to look like black women with the lip fillers and butt implants (example The picture Kim Kardashian did with the champagne going over her head and into a glass on her butt).
@@thatbeaatcch9884 it’s not the preference, it’s that these men VERBALLY state their preference for non-black people is only due to their problems with black people, not the positives of their non-black preferences. Your response was wildly condescending and brash.
@Bob: Swahili is usually the African language discussed in English-speaking schools as its the easiest African language for English speakers to learn. The language has the same alphabet, minus X and Q, and (like English) there's no lexical tone/change in pitch that determines the meaning of a word. This makes the language easily readable by English speakers - the words sound like they look (to English speakers), so we only have to learn the meaning of the words, rather than (what we find) "difficult" pronunciations. For this reason; Swahili is often the language used as an example when teaching linguistics to English speakers. Considering this is the first time I've ever used anything taught in my college linguistics classes - this comment cost thousands! :)
I love comments with little tidbits like this! So interesting.
So she learned Jambo from mean Girls Got it lol
🤣

There is definitely something to be said about not having to explain your point of view when dating within your own culture or race
It’s not that Asia was calling Bob out for dating a white person and calling out their issues. It’s that Bob was LITERALLY calling white people annoying and irritating but he’s dating one 😂 it’s just ironic and Asia was calling out the irony. But Bob doesn’t like to be called out is what I’ve learned from this podcast lol
Bob has multiple white boyfriends BTW

I was tryna figure out who he was talking about 😂 but yeah I’m definitely glad he called that mess out
I have had this conversation with many other gay black men and they always talk about exclusively dating black because of shared history, trauma, or experiences. They also assume, since I am in an interracial relationship, that I ONLY date and am attracted to white men. Love isn't about skin and my blackness shouldn't be reduced to our collective historical trauma or experiences as POC just so that we can be eligible to be in love with another black person. There are so many other ways to relate to people and you'd be shocked to find out a lot of them aren't trauma or race related. I don't understand dating someone simply because you share the same amount of melanin. THAT IS NOT ENOUGH. It isn't enough for me and shouldn't be enough for anybody else that is of color when it comes to loving another human being. There is more value to dating as a POC than just our skin and experiences and all of that value can be loved, seen, and cared for by whomever we choose.
Beautifully put
so greatly worded 👏
You seem to be making assumptions while crying about people making them about you, but that's typical. No one is solely dating a person BECAUSE they're black. If a person wants to date black people, exclusively, that doesn't mean they're going to date every black person they come into contact with. OBVIOUSLY other things will connect that person with the people they choose to build a relationship. Blackness is just a pre-requisite just as, for some, a certain socio-economic status, language, location, age, and gender may be pre-requisites. Let's use our brains.
Werq.
Thank you! A lot of hurt women in the comments feeling betrayed because someone that didn’t value them, is dating outside their race. It’s sad
How come interracial relationships always has one white person in it? Do we minorities not like each other? I seriously wanna know
@Daniel Ng I SO agree! I’m not attracted to white ppl, but AM attracted to any darker-Skinned person…African, Indian, hispanic, Middle-Eastern…#DarkSkinRules
I used to work with a Latin/Asian couple who often shared they wish there was more representation about their love because whenever interracial relationships are discussed or onscreen its usually always Black/white.
As a biracial person, mixed Chinese and Black, I never feel included because it's always White and another race. I guess we are in the minority though, it's rare I find another mixed person that is not mixed with white
@@jasminet6124 no people just dont consider them mixed because they dont look like the "typical mixed"black and white person.

I have dated different types of men but I have personally decided I would prefer to end up with a Mexican man like myself because sometimes it makes it easier to communicate and to understand each other’s experience. And when it comes to the whole celebrity thing I have always noticed, especially with pro athletes, that they end up with a specific type of white man, I’ve always been curious why that happens.
I feel the same sentiments
Don't ever change the intro for Sibling Rivalry please . Thank you!
I’m not saying bob said anything bad but it makes me feel some type of way when someone says a persons nationality as that person’s race people do that a lot with Latin people, being Mexican or Puerto Rican… does not make you a POC with that being said bob’s boyfriend is Mexican and he could be white or mix(mestizo) or indigenous…
I was thinking the same thing. Ezra is still very much a white man even tho his ethnicity is latino and nationality is mexican.
@@Anacaonas_Flowers exactly thank you, I think it is important to remember the difference between the three as Latinos we confuse it so other people do and then we have white Latinos wanting to be a POC as a trend but we have to be honest white Latinos do not face the same struggles we do as POC Latinos. Yes they do face struggles for being LATIN but for for their skin color or their features
yea the difference between race and ethnicity really be kicking their asses sometimes
I agree, being Mexican =/ POC
Same thing with any other latin country. my bf is columbian, he is definitely white. He doesn’t consider himself a poc. Obviously he does have different experiences than being white American. But is very easy for him to “blend” in.
not this comment policing how Ezra identify as
YIKES
I do not understand how anyone of any race or gender doesn’t ding everyone attractive. I do however understand cultures wanting to date within the same culture .
Also sometimes it just comes down to natural attraction tbh

Always here for these two!
I honestly don’t think any of it’s odd because at the end of the day there are so many varying reasons as to why people date who they date. And honestly those reasons can make complete and total sense based on one’s own lived experience.
Perfect timing! Love u Queens!!!
Monet's Sharon Needles voice was pretty good!
i’ve been loving these episodes
You both are everything. Only two I watch.
Can’t wait to hear how this turns out. Looking at you Roberta 👀
I'll tell you why gay people of color of feel like that. It's mostly representation. On most TV shows, you never see two black men together, besides Noah's Arc like 20 years ago. We just saw representation at least for black men in the past few years. I'd challenge you all to find one, aside from Noah's Arc that shows black men. But that's no reason to hate
Pose had a little, but like you said, that's a super recent example that was long overdue
i feel like in also every ad, film, fucking stock image i've ever seen, there's only a black person if they have a white partner in the presentation. it seems like they want to make it more palatable; its seriously weird
@@jennydunn340 I thought I was the only one that noticed. I live in NZ, but in 99% of ads, the only time you would see a POC is if they have a white partner.
@@cammik2229 idk about other places, but it's very common in the uk where i am. a lot of ads are obviously trying to have more representation included, which is good but there's always a white person in the ad. it's never just black people, which sometimes comes across as making it receive better. also it's extremely uncommon to have any other poc representation in british ads other than black people - it's really weird. like it's an advert for a hoover you don't need to make it palatable for a white audience lol
Omg Noah’s arc was such a good show
Bob's favourite topic!
People from the US are so weird about race… MEXICAN IS NOT A RACE. There are many different races in Mexico and Latin America (this is coming from a white Latinx).
They don't understand that race doesn't exist/mean anything.
It's more about the origin or the ethnicity.
@@LilyJohn96 race mean a lot and it does exist. In the States it may mean more than in other places; however there are racial problems in other places around the globe. Just because you haven't experienced it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Many Asian countries have racial divides and Europe is not without its racial issue. There is the caste system in many places around the world including South America, India etc.
@@sandra-jones What about italians, spanish people... is their race white ?
What about moroccans, tunisians... is their race black ?
People see three races : black, white or asian. But what about the rest of the world ?
@@LilyJohn96 the three races that you have mentioned exist all over the world. How people identify is based on their ethnicity and heritage. You would need to speak to the Moroccan so they can tell you about there family tree and who or what they identify as. I am not giving anyone a specific race it's not my place to do so. But I am also not going to take it away from them.
@@sandra-jones Race does exist. I hate when people try to say it doesn’t. If it didn’t your child’s gens wouldn’t be determined by race. Certain diseases wouldn’t be so high for certain races. For example, cancer is high for white people and high blood pressure is high for black people. If race didn’t exist there wouldn’t be a need for attraction. People are silly lol
As a 50+ Black Man, who has experienced racial discrimination from white ppl my ENTIRE life, I CANNOT/Will Not be romantically/sexually attracted to WHITE ppl of Any gender. However, I DO see beauty in ALL races. Yes, i realize that not every BLACK experience is identical. #NoPink4Me

Passover celebrates the liberation from slavery in Egypt. It also has an agricultural significance as the spring festival. One of the three big festivals whose main imperative is to be happy. You really don’t have to be religious to celebrate it … 🤷🏻♀️
Too bad there is still slavery in Eqypt. Now they are called "maids for hire" but they don't get paid and they don't have any say on their body.
i personally dont date someone outside of my ethnicity out of comfort. (i dont like being fetishized or be someone’s token race collection, etc.), BUT dating someone within your race/ethnicity doesn’t always lead to a good/better romantic relationship. I don’t do it but I am open to interracial relationships if it is someone open minded and respectful.

I don't have a problem with interracial dating, but I do have a problem when the 'N-word' is use so casual when you are in a interracial relationship. That's just my opinion, but to each your own. I feel that we all teach others how to treat us... great conversation.
Yes I kinda get that. Like I don't totally understand using the n- word with a white partner. Just like I don't use it in predominantly white spaces, like work
I think it's kinda sad how they couldn't really name more than two famous black gay couples.
AGAIN, it's not a coincidence... It's a pattern.
Let's keep it real. 💅🏾

When Bob said Asia is 2/3 of the world I thought he meant O’Hara ksks.

Speaking specifically to the sickness concept, sickness is defined differently in each culture. My boyfriend is Hawaiian, and in 'Olelo Hawai'i, you say that the sickness got you (roughly translated). No one got sick, the sickness got them. Even the way sickness is defined is a social construct.
FYI Queen latifah has came out. She gave an acceptance speech thanking her significant other for their kid or something but I don’t think they are interracial
I think we should have a good "Social Construct" conversation because people who like to split the hair at "Its a social construct so it doesn't exact" (which is not a direct Bob quote cuz yall know how he gets when he's misquoted even A TAD lol) are starting to lose me it is 2022 I don't think we need to get lost in what reality is anymore. When it comes to the Black Experience, I think a Social Construct is apart of our existence. Just because it doesn't exist doesn't mean it can't happen because human beings are constantly evolving what can and cannot exist. Pulling the Social Construct card might as well be the new version of giving white people "an n-word card" because just because you can say it doesn't mean it won't get you fucked up/just because you said what you said don't mean what you said isn't some bullshit lol the definition of Social Construct is "An idea that has been created and accepted by the people in a society. Class distinctions are a social construct" and I personally read that and go, "ok, so its an ACCEPTED idea by the people in this society" that means people all around you have accepted ideas other people put on you and put on you and put on you until it was put on you so much we now call it and all know what a Black Experience is people literally willed this into our reality.
TL;DR (cuz this was so much chile jeez I just wanna hear yall talk XD): Get rid of the "Social Constructs don't exist" argument or put a pin in it for later because we have bigger fish to fry. We literally had to stop talking about the black experience to discuss if it was even real and the real social construct is thinking we have time for that.
Agree, I would love a social construct topic. Because it is definitely a card that is being over played
Punctuation might be a social construct, but you should use it.
Agreed! Seriously hate the whole 'it's a social construct, it's not real so just ignore it' mentality. Money is a social construct, does anyone seriously think that means it doesn't have any kind of bearing on how people live? Maybe if you wanna talk about our ability as a society to tear down or reshape social constructs with enough time and effort then I'll entertain the thought but in the here and now things like race, class etc. have an effect on our standing in society and how people treat us so it's not helpful to act like they don't exist just because they're 'made up'.
Not Jacob being the ghost of Hannukah past on that mic though

Spanish translations: both Bob and Monet forgot the "hopefully" (ojala) of that third statement. Aside from that they were pretty good
I’m mixed and refer to myself as mixed or biracial sometimes just black when I feel uneasy about telling people I’m mixed (which doesn’t happen often anymore). Iv never felt mixed was a bad word to use. Bob know he learned that Swahili from one of them kid CZcams channels he got nieces y’all 😂☺️
on the note about Jewish people wanting to date other jewish people, it is usually purely religious. There are many jewish people who prefer to date other jewish people, but it is usually bc of the religious law, which states that you can only marry other jewish people. Many religious jewish people will date non-jewish people, and will only talk about conversion if it comes to marriage. Sidenote converting to Judaism is very complicated so its not super easy lmao

There's always some friction in dating outside your race, ethnicity or any other kind of cultural in-group, around the world. Yes, the Black experience of racism specifically adds to that kind of insular thinking, but it would still be there, even if America never had a history of racism. Perhaps not in the same way or degree, but yeah.

You guys lack the depth and honesty to tackle this subject. It was a very simplistic and superficial overview. Very " I don't see color" everyone is the same but I am pro-Black lol.
Agreed!
I was looking for this comment. I’m disappointed. I really thought they were going to have a deeper conversation.
I’m not disappointed but the pro-Black part was interesting. Pro-Black is a political stance. Unfortunately, who we love is political. We get it more when we talk about queerness but struggle with Blackness. Buying Black, activism, loving Black people, and community building are all parts of that. You can be a Black activist against racism and still not be pro-Black. That’s absolutely okay and people should not feel guilty for loving and being loved, but we’re really just making up new definitions at this point lol.
